Ask a Beta Tester: Come back little walrus, I just want to help!

Welcome to another episode edition of Ask a Beta Tester! Just a few more days until Wrath. Are you excited? I'm excited. I'm so excited that I don't think I'm going to answer any questions today, and instead slam my face on my keyboard in joy and post that to our main page instead.

At least that's what I would do if I didn't want to write for WoW Insider anymore. I'll behave, I promise!

I want to start on my Kalu'ak rep to get the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole asap, which starting zone will offer more quests from the Kalu'ak?

Both the Howling Fjord and the Borean Tundra have a pretty hefty number of quests from the Kalu'ak, but Borean Tundra comes out ahead with 2-3 more quests than the Fjord, and the rep gains are a bit higher because some of the Fjord's Kalu'ak quests are just FedEx quests, taking an item across town or whatever. So you'll want to go Tundra if that Fishing Pole is your top priority.

Which starting zone in Northrend has the most village's or forests and the least open areas? I don't wanna end up in another Barrens look-a-like.

Allison answered this yesterday, but I just wanted to stick my nose in and say that I agree with her completely. Neither starting zone is as horrifyingly plain as the Barrens, but it sounds like you'd want to go to the Howling Fjord. The Borean Tundra is very diverse, but I personally think it is very flat and plain in comparison to the forests and cliffs of the Fjord. Not that the Tundra is boring, it's a very unique landscape. It's just not as... filled in, I suppose? I'm sure some of the readers will disagree with me, and that's fine. I think you would like the Fjord better.

Which starting area do you think is the least likely to be overpopulated and not look like the area surrounding the Sunwell Plateau at launch?

I'd bet a dollar that the Howling Fjord will be less populated than the Borean Tundra. Stormwind and Orgrimmar take you to the Tundra while Menethil Harbor and Undercity take you to the Fjord. I think your average player will end up in the Tundra simply because they start closer to it, since Stormwind Harbor is new and shiny and Orgrimmar is a population center. This morning Dan O'Halloran posted a pretty nice guide on how to get to Northrend and other key destinations, by the way.

Do bosses on heroic mode in WotLK drop badges like the bosses of the heroic BC dungeons?

Yep, absolutely. Heroics and 10-man raids drop Emblems of Heroism for gear of equivalent quality. 25-man raids drop Emblems of Valor for gear of equivalent quality.

Coming off of the weekend, we didn't have a whole lot of questions to answer today, so that's all we have until tomorrow. Enjoy your evening, and ask your questions while you can. We only have a couple of days left!

The Wrath of the Lich King beta has come to a close, but the WoW Insider crew is still here to sate your Wrath curiosity with Ask a Beta Tester! Leave your beta questions in the comments and we'll do our best to answer 'em!
