Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
nice.
No, no I believe Matthew Broderick's lowest point in his career was Inspector Gadget
and I thought Matthew Brodderick career was made only of lowest points
Eh?....how long is this break, wheres the video?
In case any one is confused by this posting, that's Mahalo Daily's Veronica Belmont giving the thumbs up.
priceless comment! ha ha!
Ya I was wondering about that...
Snide comments aside, I've watched and enjoyed a few of Ms Belmont's reports over the past few days.
Admittedly not knowing what sort of gig Mahalo Daily is, I hope she moves on to bigger and better things, the lady's got some gadget reporting talent.
That comment gets 2 thumbs up!
She belongs on TechTV.
Nah, I'm just pointing at it with my thumb.
That girl is hawt!
Amen, but, get a life.
she is a cutie
wow BluRay players can do something boring that every single HDDVD player could do.
How is this exciting?
Proud HDDVD owner (soon to be Blu owner)
I think the break is broken!
Yet the same feature that has been available on HD DVD from day 1 was dismissed. Talk about hypocritical.
hd-dvd??? what's that?
But, but, but, it is Blu-ray. It is so much better than that HD Dud. I mean, Sony is behind it and the next generation does not start until they say it does, and it is so technically advanced, I mean, there is BD+ so that we can keep those evil people from copying files onto their own media server (not for distribution, just for themselves, forget that people are clamoring for this in their music [MP3 == bad]), and it has region encoding so people can't watch foreigh films (keeps those horrible U.S. people from experiencing culture), and it has that magical cancer curing Java in it, and it costs more for a player (come on, who does not like to pay more to Sony?), and you get to buy another player in a few months to get all those new features, and you should want to pay more money for a player to keep that J6P "normal person" riff-raff out, and it is so great, that Sony didn't pay those studios $500MM, the studios paid them that much just for Sony allowing them the honor of putting their movies on it, and, and, and, oh, you are just a paid M$ shill. Go away, you lost, Go Blu-ray!!!!
Oh yea, $150MM to Paramount to switch because I heard some rumor that was denied by Paramount, but they are liars. The took the money because I read it on the internets, and there is nothing false on the internet (unless they say HD DVD is good, then they are lying).
Yeah, it seems someone got the whole idea out on Day 1 while the "leader" is still playing catch up and laughing all the way to the bank with the desperately needed cash from all those folks that may end up buying 3 of their players to the loser's 1. Way to go technology er, marketing.
Who, exactly, is being hypocritical? Engadget? They've been trumpeting HD-DVD along with BD from day one. Blu-Ray consumers? We *still* don't care about this crap.
There's nothing "hypocritical" here. It's just another feature that nobody will use. The fact that it's now on Blu-Ray doesn't change that.
Yaaawn. Yes, HDVD had all the bells and whistles up and running on day one (or two) but they didn't have the FORMAT. If DVD had HDi today, and Bluray didn't get these corny options till next week, would that mean that DVD is better?
HDVD was always built as a stopgap format. Originally planned with red laser and more compression (till that mean company said they were going to release a real next gen format) and using recycled DVD technology. It was always designed to be 'good enough'. The majority of the world has decided that it is not good enough. We want a format that has the capacity, bandwidth and industry support to make it and keep it a viable format for years to come.
Dang!!! Veronica is fine!!
amen!
Err ..where is this video folks??
Why is this girl the subject of the picture and not Blu-ray? I feel like we are being taunted at every opportunity.
Out of curiosity,, are people commenting so much on these pictures as a joke,, or do you want everyone to know you like girls... seriously, is this like an inside joke now or do you guys really feel the need to keep saying it
I commented a couple of times today and yesterday as a joke, but it got old fast. I'm sure some people are still serious about it, though there seems to be a bit of a backlash going on right now.
That said, I feel kind of bad for her at this point - in the beginning, it was something new to have this chick narrating Engadget videos and that was worthy of comment. Now, though, it's just getting weird having every post she's in end up being totally about her. And it's not her fault. She's just doing what she's being asked to do.
It's also kind of sickening seeing some of the posts alternately either *completely* objectifying her or now that the backlash has started, calling her "ugly". (For the record, I think she's pretty cute, and she's got a comfortable presence in front of the camera.) I'm sure that's just a form of jealousy talking, but it's still annoying - I mean, I'll bet she's reading some of these comments. If you are, Veronica, don't take anything you see here personally. Most of these guys have never even seen a girl before. Some aim for a compliment and miss completely, others have to try to show the rest of us how much of a man they are by arguing that their imaginary "girlfriends" are better looking.
Anyway, soon CES is going to be over and everything will be back to normal.
Jeff's post was entirely inspired by the thought she might be reading it, and by suddenly pretending to be the 'concerned and better and I'm different and understand you' guy have her running to him.
Of course that trick often works so you can't blame him.

I've had enough of Veronica.
Honestly, I feel like i'm looking at a myspace page rather than a gadget site.
Haha!
Some might say this is the best Veronica video so far. Those being the ones that hate her and all.
veronica es una DIOSA HOT
veronica es una DIOSA HOT
Veronica is the real attraction at CES.
oh and nice uh gadgets and stuff i guess
Patel is too busy holding David Caruso's hands...check it out after the break!
What break?
great stuff!
Wait for it... wait for it...
haha well, Don't forget that Veronica is the long-time girlfriend of Engadgets's editor-in-chief... they are walking around CES together , and also why all of engadget's video postings are done through veronica's site mahalo.
My wife is much hotter than this chick, then again this one does like gadgets and is at CES.... which makes her hotter than my wife.
Truely awesome video!
http://www.mahalo.com/Sony_BD_Live for those of you looking for the link.
Ah, thats it im so tired of Mahalo Daily's Veronica Belmont that im gone go to gizmodo for the rest of CES.
So I see lots of "Veronica is hot" notes on these posts but I'm wondering: Is her face really necessary in all these shots? Is it bringing in viewers? There are a bunch of guys I'd like to know what they look like (Paul Miller- seriously- what's this guy look like?). Or is it that Veronica doesn't know how to use a camera.
If I want female ogling comments I head over to Gizmodo.
As for Matthew Broderick's low point- how could you pick just one? It's been a steady spiral since War Games/Ferris/Ladyhawk.
Does anyone know the percentage of engadget readers that are still virgins?
What is the percentage of women readers? Subtract that from 100% and you have your answer.
Are you claiming all women that are nerds still get laid?
Hey, I'm kingjew@gmail.com and I am the worst possible kind of troll.
Sony should be real proud of themselves. They steal Nintendo's motion sensing idea, they steal Microsoft's Xbox Guide Button idea, and now they steal Microsoft's online moniker for their products (Windows Live, Xbox Live, etc).
BD Live? How original...
Did he say DECEMBER of 2008?!?!?! That's ridiculous......
Hey! She changed her hair style! Ponytails ftw.
Anyway, I don't really get the point of the games included on high def discs, who in the world actually gets around to playing them?
I like the idea of up to date movie trailers though. I bet I'll start to feel nostalgic for the days when you had to fast-forward through 2 year old movie previews to get to the actual film you bought on VHS tapes.

Sorry for double post!
So does yours Rk...
First rule of Internet commenting:
Don't post about others mugs, when your ugly mug is clearly visible.
Wow... they deleted Rk's Comment?????????
lol... well, I don't particularly find her attractive either, but I wouldn't call her ugly by any means. But besides that, I don't see what all the hype is about this chick... nothing terribly special about her reporting - no charm or anything.. i don't get it.
That's unfortunate for you. If your picture is any hint, you'll have to settle for much less.

I think Veronica looks much better when she isn't wearing that backpack of hers. She could look pretty hot if she toned down the geek wear and dressed up!
Wow. Slow down there, Tom Cruise.
A female offends you because she's talking gadgets?
I'm all for more Veronica! Bring her on.
Right.. Notice how he Smoothly glossed over the fact that ALL EXISTING Blu-Ray players (sans PS3) will not support BD Live. So those folks that shelled out $800+ for the stand alone Blu-Ray player...Not so good.
could you put the video in HD?, i want to see her
better
Is that a double chin?
see the video did ya? The "presenter" had trouble working his own display. Made me laugh. Maybe the cute VB made him uncomfortable. She sounded bright and focused. He wandered all over the place. Just how hookie is this show?
This Blu-ray Direct look like iTunes.
@Jeff:
If nobody watches that "crap" then why don't you get a group of people together and contact the studios to tell them that no body wants it. If you get enough people together, then maybe they will remove it. Without the additional production costs, then the price of disks will drop.
But really, do you think that you know better than the studios that nobody watches that stuff? Do you not think that they do research, and know that people really do? Do you think that they would waste that money on the development costs if nobody is using it?
Thinking about it, I believe you are correct. The studios do not know what they are doing and do not listen to what the consumer wants. They are putting that crap on the disk. And if they are not doing what the consumer wants, then that explains the switch to Blu-ray.
Can we have an option to not show CES posts with Ms. Belmont... She looks just like my ex AND her sister and I'm afraid I can't choose between having a PTSD relapse and not getting my gadget news.
If all else fails, I'll just follow in those Texan kids' footsteps and sue Engadget for my mental anguish.
Veronica is cute indeed !
I wonder if cuteness can be a curse too .....
Who knows !
She is cute !
Why have people chosen blu-ray? because got F**kin tired of hearing DV anything. in fact the letter D is making me sick, it's over used. HDD HD, DVD, CD, DVR, HDMI, D pads, Digital, DMS, and that is why epople like blue tooth, and blu-ray. cuz people just damn pissed with the letter D.
yay i just watched the video and....can somebody please remind me why the industry thinks all of this useless crap is neccesary? Will the new movies be able to actually play movies too or will BD require us to buy a seperate dongle from sony for each "bd movie" to play. Truth be told i got my HDdvd player (r.i.p.) because it was first to the market and my tv was dying for true HD content and it delivered everything i could ask for. Great PQ, audio, fancy menu's etc. The last thing i want to do is download and watch a g0dd@mn trailer (sorry but my time is somewhat important to me). Oh and i LOL'd when he said that none of the current sony players can currently take advantage of these useless features. GO SONY marketing group! Because they're seriously the best, i mean they sold BD which is technically in beta (lol no pun intended) as in "nowhere near final spec". I mean cmon yes I too will finally be going purple due to the recent news but doesnt any of this make any of you blu owners angry a little bit?
"Thanks for supporting us however, you got yours to early and we thank dearly from the bottom of our hearts here at Sony but you now need to buy another because your player is simply outdated. But by being loyal we'll throw in a free exlusive movie trailer download for the next spiderman movie and if you act now we'll even throw in a free godzilla ringtone*"
-Your consumer friendly non proprietary loving people at Sony
*-Ringtone's are only compatible with a Sony Ericcson phone**
**-Phone requires update 1.1 in order to play saved ringtones***
***Sony memory stick pro required in order to save data
yes im still bitter about the news
:p
-AB
Soon to be purple
nicely said and well written.
Actually Veronica looks like Maria Bartiromo from Cnbc, she just needs a good hair stylist and needs to learn how work the camera. all her facial expressions come across as she is not happy to be there.
You want her to become a fake? we got enough of those already I thought, but I'll recount to check.
Anyone else pick up that line about the portable copy? He say's it will be playable on the PSP, but not just any "portable player". When they mentioned it I thought, "Wow, that's cool". Then he says it's playable only on the PSP...Then I thought, "Wow, very alarming!" If they are locking it down to the PSP that is...
Also, he talked up the blu-ray capabilities of the Playstation 3 by saying it's been updated for 1.1 and will continue to be updated as needed, but the stand-alones...that's another story. "Sorry, but here are some shiny new sony players for you to choose from!"
All supporters of Blu-ray, buyers beware...I get the feeling Sony is going to try and corner the market on all these new features and lock them down to benefit themselves.
marry me, veronica
I specially love the part when the guy was trying to load the ringtone and it fails to load and says "that's not good", ( you can see it between 1:02 and 1:08). Maybe Microsoft was trying to sabotage their demonstration for copyright infringement by calling it BD live.
I so don't want my DVD/BD/HD player to connect to the internet.
And I hope you realise they will use it to nicely get free info on how popular a movie is and how much you watch it, and when, and where.
You'll become a entity in their ad database, isn't that great.
Nobody seems to care that ALL HD-DVD players already have Internet-enabled features, picture-in-picture and things like visual status bars. It's amazing to me that blu-ray won the format war with money (and by forcing its format on gamers) despite lagging way behind on its technology standards.
I'm just glad I didn't shell out $500+ for a non-upgradable blu-ray player. Although I do admit the PSP thing is pretty cool.
Why is that chick plastered all over Engadget...
She banging the boss? get out of the picture and make room for the toys!
Don't forget that Veronica is the long-time girlfriend of Engadgets's editor-in-chief... they are walking around CES together....
If that is true.....it makes the whole thing even lamer !!
In that case its just a typical: "Wanna show off my girlie and get the ratings on the wedding market !! " First I thought the photographer was focusing by chance...but now it seems to be one of this indirect gestures of ownage. Something guys tend to do on the street when they pass you by....just to show : She is mine ! .....Bah !!! I guess Im switching to Gizmodo.....
