Motorola CABO bringing RAZR 2 style to iDEN?

Wow, never thought we'd see the day that an iDEN handset came along that lacked that distinct iDENness. Motorola will definitely set that marketplace on fire if this beautifully RAZR 2-esque thing actually proves to be real, check out the frickin external screen on this thing! Featuring a 3 megapixel camera, external touch screen -- we're not positive if this only refers to the controls pictured above -- Bluetooth, support for up to a 6 GB SD card, and have we mentioned how glorious the whole thing looks? Look for this to land Q4 this year, that is, if it ever gets out of Photoshop the design room. Color us pretty unsure until we hear more.

If the WHOLE screen on the outside is touch sensitive, I just found my new phone. Now, what to use for a year...

I know, I wish RIM would start making new iDEN phones again. This looks pretty sweet though.

A year? HA! Don't hold your breath. Motorola is notorious for introducing new products (like the MOTOFONE F3) and then never delivering them.
Take he MOTOFONE F3, for example. It was introduced in the United States in 2006 as the 'phone for everyone', and promised to be released 'within a year'.
I waited 12 months for it, then gave up and bought an iPhone.
I'm happy as can be, but gosh, look at Motorola today... I guess promises mean something.
Mark @ Jan 29th 2008 10:24PM
So randy, you were waiting for the $20 F3 and ended up buying the $600 iPhone?
Rafer @ Jan 28th 2008 4:32PM
forget smart phones that you can easily browse the internet. This is just pure sex. Look how thin it is. dunno if that can be real.
darkstar @ Jan 28th 2008 4:34PM
how come all the iden phones are ugly???
the only one i liked was the thin i830, before the razr ever came out
Jubei @ Jan 28th 2008 4:41PM
Well, at least they are still trying. By then SDK will be in the hands of programmers. iPhone isn't standing still. A lot of cool stuff is coming down the pipeline. It's going to be quite a fun summer this year for iPhone and Touch users.

Too little to late! Sprint is in such turmoil right now!

With a partner like Motorola (they owned a piece of Nextel) who needs enemies. If you were a "real pal", you would have made certain that every phone you made had an iDen equivalent. Yea, "Eh tu Brute?"
derX @ Jan 28th 2008 4:49PM
Eh?
Fernando @ Jan 28th 2008 4:56PM
A not completely ugly iDEN? I don't habeeb it.
applefreak @ Jan 28th 2008 6:05PM
that is an awful lot of touch buttons around the sides
stones34 @ Jan 28th 2008 6:44PM
Those are probably "morphing" keys, which is to say that they are only all "on" because it's a power point page to show the key layout... They probably won't all be on at the same time, they're mode based.
Flashpoint @ Jan 28th 2008 6:09PM
NEXTEL should have had a RAZR years ago...that's why they are losing more and more customers to T-Mobile's Sidekick.
Flashpoint @ Jan 28th 2008 6:11PM
This would be a KILLER phone if you are using BOOST MOBILE.
I wonder if it will work with Boost's sims?
And whatever happened to the Motorola V3x which was suppossed to have two way video calling?
AndrewNeo @ Jan 28th 2008 7:34PM
The v3x does have two way video calling. My friend imported one from Europe. (AKA, no US release, and since the v3xx is out there probably won't be)
Sandeep @ Jan 28th 2008 6:18PM
Now if the only iDEN network in the world was actually being maintained and expanded, this might've been quite nice.
But as it stands, I'd much rather take a CDMA or GSM phone, regardless of how sexy this might be.
Johan S @ Jan 28th 2008 8:35PM
Those screens look tiny. I bet they're QVGA resolution. That means, the browser is nowhere near as useful as on the iPhone of even a Toshiba G900 (let's add skyfire to the G900 though).
Pdexter @ Jan 29th 2008 2:19AM
Does people still buy these endless razr copies?
tnkgrl @ Jan 29th 2008 3:36AM
Look! Now you too can be cool and surf the web on your iDen device, albeit at a glorious 20 kbps or so...
sri @ Jan 29th 2008 8:43AM
Hey guys,
Listen to me!! this is a piece of crap and loads of SHIT! Believe me! VOICE of practical experience speaking!!! BTW u n me, I have worked on this piece of crap!
CP @ Jan 29th 2008 10:31AM
based on the prices of current iden phones (look at the i930 2 years after it came out!), and the razr2, this is probably in the $700 range with a 2-year agreement.
daceter @ Feb 6th 2008 11:06PM
wow what a beautiful things
