AnySIM updated to unlock some v1.1.3 phones
Today's iPhone unlocking / jailbreaking update comes by way of Zibree, who, as you may have heard, announced a new version of AnySIM that unlocks v1.1.3 phones with the baseband 4.03_13_g; be warned, though, bootloader 4.6 won't work, only 3.9. If none of this makes sense to you, we envy the blissful, pain-free life you're not whittling away tracking this stuff.

I don't care about the news, but the humor is enjoyable. This cant be said for many other blogs.

Finally I can unlock my dumb Iphone.
Gremlin @ Feb 6th 2008 8:05PM
Would it be possible to write a divx app for it?

Coreplayer is coming soon, look around the net and find some pretty nifty videos/screenshots of it. Here is one such example: http://www.corecodec.com/forums/index.php?topic=692.msg3860 . Thanks :)

I use TurboSIM on mine, works perfect.
Just to be more clear, turbo SIM is a very light chip that slides over your actual local SIM (slide both of them in together in iPhone) and it tricks the iPhone into think all is swell. All I know is it works, and after doing the softupgrade to 1.1.3 it still works. I'm glad I never used AnySIM, as I never needed to mess with my baseband which is just a well.

Engadget does not necessarily endorse or agree with the opinions and ideas expressed in the preceding infocomment.

Sweet, but when are we going to see a Software unlock for 1.1.2 (or 1.1.3) OTB?
Mile @ Feb 6th 2008 8:26PM
Everytime I read one of these articles, it actually makes me appreciate my Windows Mobile phone more and more.
Steffen Jobbs @ Feb 6th 2008 9:50PM
Please let me be the first to offer my condolences on your choice of mobile OS. It's already been surpassed in less than a year by mobile OSX. When the SDK is released it will put the final nail in the WinMobile coffin.

Apple devices: Form over function
Windows devices: Function over form
I like function better.

Uhm. I think not. I tend to get more work done on my macbook then my vista desktop any day. weird.
caramelzappa @ Feb 6th 2008 8:34PM
Since my dash's screen died I've been thinking of getting an unlocked iphone. I really can't justify the mass amount of money though, especially since I already have an ipod for music.
Hawkman @ Feb 6th 2008 8:43PM
In the interests of giving credit to the correct people (which is important, otherwise they won't bother doing this in the future), the claim by the former members of the iphone-elite group is that this was developed pretty much solely by a developer known as Gray, and then pinched by Zibri who decided to take full credit for himself. They also say that the code wasn't fully tested and it might be sensible to wait a couple of days for the official release. See http://code.google.com/p/iphoneelite/ for a quick rundown of the drama.
Manu @ Feb 6th 2008 8:44PM
Ireland, I'm also using a turbosim with 1.1.1 software version (04.01.13G firmware), could you detail to me the method to upgrade into 1.1.3??
Thanks.

Austin, was "really well" really needed?
I think not; just makes you sound a bit condescending.

I have an ipod touch and I tried to do the installer update to 1.3 and it messed up and I had to restore which leads to the even more fun part of watching a 14 year old's youtube video on how to downgrade just to get the stuff back I had before. Don't you just love the openness of Apple products.
nickels @ Feb 6th 2008 10:17PM
just got excited about this then read "bootloader 4.6 won't work"
:(
Khris @ Feb 6th 2008 11:12PM
I see you suffer from Premature Excitation.
chris @ Feb 7th 2008 12:23AM
why is this released if the unlock already works if you upgrade from 1.1.1 or 1.1.2?
the unlock sticks so why do we need a anysim that will unlock 1.1.3? sorry for my confusion, just don't see the point unless ofcourse im missing something
please enlighten me :)
chris @ Feb 7th 2008 12:25AM
and i mean that if you unlock 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 and then do the guide to upgrade to 1.1.3 and jailbreak - the unlock from your previous version stays on and your phone is still unlocked when you do the upgrade
Alex Olson @ Feb 7th 2008 12:39AM
I believe the difference is that the one you say sticks is just a software upgrade to 1.1.3 apps. This new one unlocks the actual firmware upgrade.
chris @ Feb 7th 2008 12:47AM
that can't be true because you still have to follow the same steps to get your 1.1.3 jailbreaked and then run this program. The jailbreak method for 1.1.3 before this program is the same as it is now. and i have figured out the difference:
before it did not upgrade the baseband - ONLY the firmware, which is why the unlock stayed - but because of this, everytime you restarted your phone, you couldn't use the google gps feature without running a different program (locateme or navizon) first. this program updates the baseband which allows it to always work without that, no real difference in my opinion but i guess it helps it a bit if you use the google gps feature alot and restart your phone often.
this also will allow you to unlock the phone if you decided that you didn't need the unlock at first and then already did the jailbreak method and went to 1.1.3 so it allows for you to now have to downgrade to 1.1.1 and redo everything
Bob McCapherey @ Feb 7th 2008 10:15AM
Wow, I wish I could use jailbreak my Blackberry 8320...oh wait, I was already able to unlock it for free...
Damn, makes me feel so left out with a working phone and stuff.
Alex Olson @ Feb 7th 2008 3:17PM
How is making you buy a 2,000 dollar Enterprise Server to have full functionality of your phone free? Jailbreaking may not be a process that is suited for everyone but at least all it costs is time.
Armada @ Feb 7th 2008 10:16AM
Noob question! I'm in Canada and we still don't have the iPhone! Is it possible for me to buy a new iPhone and unlock via AnySim or is the baseband thing not the version I need?
kinezo @ Feb 7th 2008 11:35AM
I've been using a jailbroken + anysim iphone on rogers in Canada since Aug. You've been able to do it for a while. I've unlocked a dozen of them for friends and family so far. I've been patiently waiting for anysim to be updated for the 1.1.3 firmware. Looks like we're almost there.
Bret Lindquist @ Feb 9th 2008 1:58AM
Actually it is unlocked: http://bretlindquist.com/112113-iphone-software-unlock
