Hands-on with LG's QWERTY clamshell, the KT610

We had no luck getting pics of this guy last night, but yahoo, we had a chance to play today. Putting the KT610 through its paces -- albeit in a crazy fast way -- we were completely underwhelmed by the interface speed and the screen, when open, is in a pretty odd position to actually read. Aside from those little details, this is a pretty slick little handset, here's hoping they sort the hardware to give it a little speed boost. Follow the link to the gallery.

When it's open it's cool, when it's closed it's NOT.
Did I accidentally get on engadget mobile? What is with all this cell phone stuff? Isn't that why EM was started?
It's Mobile World Congress, which many gadget lovers have been looking forward to, since there are major phone product launches occurring. The news of some of these phones is definitely worthy of making the regular Engadget blog.
I'm not so sure about the rest of the phone, but that front keypad and mini screen is kinda cute. Not a big fan of the EnV style hinge mechanism though. I wish it was kinda like the Nokia N90 instead.
ewwwww ... Fruits of th Upstage and Voyager's unholy union FTL.
couldnt agree with you more. looks like the front of the upstage stapled onto the enV
is it symbian s60 os that i see? it'd be awesome if it is!
It is. Hotness.
Yes it is. Too bad this thing is triband.
I love how you pulled up an article with photos of LG's biggest rival, Samsung. I'm sure they're infuriated.
the standalone number row is why I always liked the LG clamshells (the V, the enV and the Voyager)
I guess an important question to ask would be: Is it coming to the U.S.? I see that it's GSM based, so I guess that would mean T-mo or AT&T, which is terribly exciting, because neither have a 'basic' QWERTY phone on the market (Closest thing would be the sidekick, I guess...) Only thing I could ask for in addition to this phone would be Wi-Fi, but I'd LOVE to have this one, regardless!
RE: Coming to the US?
My guess is that you need not look at Europe with "envy", if you catch my drift...
You guys do know that it opens further, right? The angle'd partially opened thing has been pretty standard for the last 3-4 iterrations of a phone like that that LG has made, and each of them will open a bit further to a straight vertical if you just.. You know, open it a little further? I got confused by that as well when I first had one of those flip-open QWERTY phones from LG, but once I figured out that yes, it does open fully, I found myself enjoying the device a hell of alot more.
