TG's Favicon PMP / navigator gets priced, even sexier
Remember that elegant looking conglomerate we peeked in December of last year? Turns out, said device finally has an appropriate name and price, but sadly, it still isn't apt to head stateside. Nevertheless, the TG Favicon reportedly features a 532MHz Freescale CPU, TPEG navigation, dual DMB / PIP functionality, 4GB of internal storage space, an SD expansion slot and a 7-inch WVGA display. So, just how much coinage will you be asked to fork over to snag this beauty next time you're in Seoul? Around 422 US dollars, that's all.

Now that *does* look nice.

what's with the stingy storage for the new PMP/MP3 devices lately? I mean -- can we have something that has storage ranging from 30 - 60GB and upward? yeah..they're sleek and nice and all but jeez my music library is way more than these devices are offering. I like Zune but can't live under the DRM crap and don't have time to unlock them...too much time wasting.

Is there maybe some sort of storage restriction to allow it to be called a 'navigator/dictionary/whatever' instead of a media player? If one device is taxed heavier than the other, that'd be a good reason for these guys to keep storage sizes at bay even when RAM prices are falling through the roof.

:insert ad hominem attack here:
they provided a gift from god and what do you do but gripe about it?! a SD-card is infinitely more valuable than any amount of onboard storage. dealnews has 8GB sd cards for $25, 16GB cards for $60. your 36gb player is $100 away. theres no way to fit all your music on 8GB but you can fit a respectable chunk (~90 hours at 192kbps). the big difference is that this unit would cost another two hundred dollars if you wanted to pack a hard drive or ton of flash into it (and the hard drive would reduce battery life / add weight / add size).
my question is, what is with all these MORON IDIOT MANUFACTURERS TOO STUPID TO PUT SD-CARDs into their gear? i bought a $70 piece of junk MP3 player after my first gen SoulPlayer mp3cd player finally went to the big scrap heap in the sky in 2001. its $70, has a UI from `96, gets 14 hours on a single AAA battery, has 128mb onboard, but it runs all the 4gb sd cards i plug in. i bought such a useless tragesty against usability and i bought it inspite of paying combined $180 for a player that only had 384 mb of memory because i knew it would be expandable, i knew it would keep pace for a long time. i would never consider buying a media player without good expandable memory. it was pretty common circa 2005 but recently there's been a dire dearth. in terms of value for $, there's absolutely no comparison to SD cards.

According to the picture above, the message on the bottom blue area seems to be current traffic information.

This thing has been rumored since December.
When is it acually going to be released?
BigD145 @ Feb 19th 2008 2:01PM
It has a nice price and would even run Windows 2k quite well.
rektide @ Feb 19th 2008 6:25PM
not on an ARM cpu it wouldnt.
just because its measured in mhz does not a windows computer make.
and no mention of RAM: probably 32MB, maybe 64.

Now, they just need to build in a phone!

ratnikh @ Feb 19th 2008 5:37PM
Why can't the USA get them?
I hate the FCC. :P
rektide @ Feb 19th 2008 6:26PM
how bout because theres no market for them?
ratnikh @ Feb 19th 2008 6:49PM
At the price mentioned, I think a PMP with the number of features mentioned would be very popular, despite no current DMB support. If there were DMB support the market would be huge. For better (and for worse) the market for such things here is massively diminished because of government bureaucracy due (in large part) to corporate intervention.
In any case, it's a very sleeky and stylish device with a lot of potential. I'd certainly buy one for around $400. It looks far more versatile and useful than, say, an iPod Touch.

More importantly, What's with so many new PMP's these days not coming with WiFuckingFi internet?
Do they not realize how big of a selling point that is. This product here would have been perfect if it had Wifi. But sadly it appears it doesn't. Look's like i'm not buying it :).
