Busted Game Boy given life with Super Mario papercraft
Call us crazy (or just packrats, whatever), but we can't just toss a dead gadget in good conscience. Apparently, neither can Josh Burker, who decided to convert a busted Game Boy into a beautiful piece of vintage art. Similar to the playable Paper Mario game we spotted about this time last month, Mr. Burker used his papercraft skills to whip up a familiar scene of Super Mario Bros. and mount it within the space where the display used to reside. Gunpei Yokoi would be so proud.

He should have used the two hideous and awkward colors that the Gameboy was capable of displaying. Although this does look much nicer. Now I need another copy of Six Golden Coins.
And on a completely unrelated note, anybody here ever play the Goldeneye game for Gameboy? Weird as hell.
bocardo @ Mar 8th 2008 11:16PM
Hey! I did. Still have it as well. James Bond RPGs FTW!!!!!1!!!!one
(Actually, it IS weird, but in a funny way.)
Chebwa @ Mar 9th 2008 1:56AM
HAHA, amazing. I just got it off of eBay a few months ago. I saw a video of it on YouTube and had to give it a shot. Bond Action/RPG. Who knew.

If he were a true fan it would be in neon green and black.
anonymous @ Mar 16th 2008 4:33AM
Oh please, if he were a true fan he'd have made it the first level of Mario Land.
FrankTheCrank @ Mar 6th 2008 10:09AM
Seriously, I understand the Mario love and all...but is this news?
Jamma @ Mar 6th 2008 10:33AM
Not really, but this isn't a news site, it's a blog.
technophobe @ Mar 6th 2008 10:33AM
last time i checked the remit of a blog was to entertain, interest or inform as the author sees fit. Not to provide news for FrankTheCrank

I haven't seen a Game Boy in so long. Brings back memories of how all the kids at school would steal game boy cartridges from each other.
Cha ching @ Mar 6th 2008 6:37PM
I still have my Gameboy Original, in working condition. But only have robocop and TMNT for it. =(
Wildness @ Mar 6th 2008 10:22AM
And this is something we should care about when looking for tech news, why?? This is just detritus littering your page.
Matt @ Mar 6th 2008 10:33AM
hey buddy, scroll past.

As opposed to your comment, which is a bastion of intelligent reading. C'mon - it's fun and video game related. Also, this is a blog, not CNN.

Best shadow box I've ever seen.
Jeff @ Mar 6th 2008 10:53AM
Very cool, but the top Question Mark Block should actually be solid since the 'shroom is already out =)
John Howard @ Mar 6th 2008 11:44AM
Yeah, that's the first thing I noticed. How can you be enough of a geek to make something like this, but not enough to do it accurately?
Dave @ Mar 6th 2008 10:58AM
My GameBoy still works. In fact, I might even play some Faceball 2000 when I get home.
Eric @ Mar 6th 2008 11:41AM

A friend and I made paper games like that when we were in elementary school. We eventually started a business and sold them for a few cents a piece. Ours weren't just for display though, we had controls, multiplayer, and eventually I made one that could scroll. Good time, lol.
Chebwa @ Mar 7th 2008 5:09PM
You were in school selling scrolling paper games that used controllers?
Damn dude. I'll give you a dollar if you make me one.

I loved playing the mario games on the old gameboy -- that and tetris. And I bought a DS because - well, I wanted to play the mario games again and, well - Tetris. Yeah - I play tetris for at least 20 or 30 minutes a day. Wow. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Geir E @ Mar 6th 2008 12:30PM
Get a nintendo ds. Tetris DS is just as addictive but now comes with wifi multiplayer support. too many highly skilled asian maniacs but i manage to win a game now and then.
But to the topic. A nice way to let the gameboy be of any use post mortem.
tekdroid @ Mar 6th 2008 2:14PM
Tetris on Game Boy (original) was and still is the best.
Tetris DS (integrating Nintendo characters, busying up the interface, offering cross-promotion mishmash and general diluted Tetris experience) I am not a great fan of.
That said, it still is fun, just far less fun than the pure Game Boy experience.
I don't care how old the system is, some games are simply better (and/or have no comparisons selling today) on that old system.
Db @ Mar 6th 2008 11:51AM
I still have mine and it still works! neh!
spaceb @ Mar 6th 2008 1:50PM
