PSP turns three, sniff
Whoa, has it really been three years since the PSP had its glittery North American debut? It seems like just yesterday we were watching UMD movies on our chubby first-gen unit -- and now here we are, with the PSP Slim all grown up, multicolored, and in a serious relationship with the PS3. (All we're missing is built-in storage.) You know the crew at PSP Fanboy's doing it up right, hit the read link to join the fun.

I kinda want that cake more then a psp...oh wait I already own a psp :(
THE CAKE IS A LIE!
props for posting a portal reference around the same time as me.
Screw portal...
Cake or death!?
The cake is a cliche.
Man, I was SERIOUSLY OBSESSED with the PSP for like a year. Check out my forum post count on the PSP forum>>
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/profile?user.id=1437320
I sold my original PSP and got a psp lite the week of it's release, and I hardly ever use it. I'd still be using my DS lite, had it not gotten stolen:(
I wrote this thing a while back though-
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psp&message.id=1552445
we get it, sucks to be you
No, I'm just saying I used to really like PSP about 2 years ago. Not so much anymore. That's about it. (oh, and if you think it sucks to be me, this is my PC setup, so I don't think someone that would be pissed would have all of this-http://youtube.com/watch?v=WjK-JnCvCSI)
uh....so are we supposed to be impressed with your rig?
Nice! I really like what you've done with your mother's basement.
I hope you're not still using XP Media Center. It's about as flexible, hardware wise, as OS X.
I am sorry to say that but your rig is old and a bit ugly. It must have been an awesome machine like 3 years ago maybe.
No asshole, I was just saying I'm not trying to say "it sucks to be me", seeing as I said earlier my ds was stolen. Just because it was stolen doesn't mean I really had much of a loss, so I wasn't trying to "impress" you with my setup, just showing you that I have a pretty good setup, and that if I had a pretty good setup, then it doesn't suck to be me. Oh and it's not my mom's basement, I'm still 16 ass, what are you, probably older than me, and your telling me to get out of the basement? STFU.
Someone is getting bitey.
This is a blog, you can expect to be bashed on if you are sharing your personal diary entries with the rest of the internets.
Still, you really have to work on your film skills. Dude...there isn't a moment in the video I can see something for the full 100%.
Did your zoom button got stolen with your DS?
Your rig is complete overkill dude wow. Jeez. You don't need that much power to watch porn man! With that setup im sure you can watch like five different high quality xvid encoded prons at once without any frame lag! You win buddy!
I find it much harder to be proud of your stuff when, say, your mom buys it for you. But hey, to each their own.
@MjW-
I was using my sony cybershot dsc-n2 for all of my videos... My camcorder uses tapes and doesn't have usb or firewire, so I've been using a point-and-shoot for video. That means no zoom during videos.
Woah, built-in storage? I think the PS3's saving itself for marriage.
I bought one of these and 5 games at the release, I was PSP obsessed, everyone at school knew it too.
Man I was stupid.
i am a late jumper on the psp - i have 2 admit i haven't really been fond of the analog controls and a lack of a great library of games - but i do like the homebrew scene - that is free games :)
anyways - the DS lite gets about 75% of my portable playing.
I'm sorry, but the PSP has a far better library than the DS's having better scores in general than the DS...
Please don't go around saying that it lacks a great library of games when what you really mean is that the PSP games just don't appeal to you.
I can do the same, I also have a DS, only games I have fallen in love of were EBA and Star Fox Command, all the other ones that I have given a chance were not good enough, Phantom Hourglass and MP: hunters, bought them both based on hype (yah, bad decision), the controllers were horrible, so was level design, and the art direction of MP...
NSMB was great, bought it based on nostalgia (good ol' days) but the game was way too easy and also too short...if it wasn't because of the minigames, I would have returned it...
Seriously, I think I only use my DS to play Fire Emblem now and then (not Sacred Stones, that was utter crap compared to Rekka no Ken) hopefully the DS remake will be worth it and actually challenging like the true FE franchise is meant to be, I still don't get why Nintendo's franchises are becoming so less challenging as of late, is that because of their attempt to go fully mainstream? I mean, games like Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Metroid Fusion...ugh, seriously, for shame.
Anyway, end of rant, oh, and one last thing about the DS and PSP, one device is a minigame handheld and the other is a portable gaming handheld, guess which is which.
again the numbers speak for themselves. Psp has very CPU it controls. Games like ratchet and clank turned into pure trash because of the aweful controls and poor camera control. Metal gear portable ops? Pure sh1t again with the controls. Sure these games have nice graphics but most fail. Now I want a portable gamingdevice not the goddamn kitchen sink. I could go without the movies and mp3s. I want Sony to refocus on games. It needs more casual games ad not ports. The ds has better games andthe average ranking doesn't mean jack when the ds has thousands of games that come out.
Again ur the minority here. Have fun with skype or gps. I just want games.
You know I was kind of hoping the first reply would be more on-topic with what I was saying, like "Naw, the PS3's been whoring itself out since launch day." Way to ruin my evening, man.
That was supposed to be a reply to the reply of my comment. Just... nevermind.
sorry bro...I clicked reply without realizing it.
They all grow up so fast!
They grow up so fast
Hey!
Wow. Three years. and I still play my PSP a few times a week. It's a great platform, even if it's got some shortcomings (like no built-in storage). Let's hope it's another 3 years and another update down the road.
This was a triumph, I am making a note here, Huge Success.
No but seriously that cake looks moist and delicious.
Other way around :p
I guess I will just keep trying till I run out of cake...
you're right, that cake looks pretty damn good.
THis brings back bad memories.
I still can't believe I actually thought it was safe under only 2 padlocks in the middleschool with the most ghetto students and at least 5 pawnshops near a half mile.
SCREW YOU STANDARDIZED TESTS!
To put it short: I was in a magnet program, meant for the smartest engineer student pplz, and they always place magnet programs in low-test-scoring schools just to raise the test scores.
Ive always felt it was a crappy system.
Well, anyways, Since its been a while PSP, i guess ill wait for the PSP2. And I won't leave it in my locker!
So you are saying you are one of the forthcoming bright engineers, and yet you fail to realize the danger of loosing an expensive consumer device when taking a test in a neighborhood with high crime rate?
im not a fan of the frosting though :(
time for psp2
So, speculation on the PSP2? I'm personally rooting for it to have three screens. Take that DS!
3G, webcam, better battery, dual analog sticks
Cellphone inside :D
Well I'm hoping for Intel inside :p
PSP has been the best electronics purchase (other than that battery operated gift I gave my wife) I've ever made.
JMHO
3 Years old? The PSP could use with a little growing up.
It's 2008 and we still can't get aspect ratios correct:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpWJnFHmKzQ
PSP's gameplay video out is broken and everything is distorted (stretched)
The analog stick must have been very tempting, since someone ate it already.
Lol! I agree
I have 3 psp's well two because I gave one away as a Birthday present. Three years of fun and emulators and homebrew. What a ride it's been so far. Can't wait to see the PS3's 3rd Birthday, Maybe Home will be released that day. LOL just teasing or am I.?.
engadget says, "All we're missing is built-in storage"
NOTE: Besides the built-in memory that does in fact already exist, the PSP has hot swappable/expandable memory and that memory has gotten quite inexpensive (8GB sticks are under $90). In contrast, the iPhone/iPod touch are stuck on arrival, you can't even swap batteries in those things.
required,
"(8GB sticks are under $90)."
remind me again what an 8GB SD card costs. Memory stick isn't storage, its outright rape with sandpaper.
And yes I'm seeing MS though shit colored glasses. I purchased my $1,000 digi camera from Sony a few months after saying we will support memory stick and get you larger capacities but a few months before they squatted on every MS owner who had the 128MB cards \ slots and said hey sorry its not compatible so suck it up and deal with it. (OK so not verbatim.)
My $1,000 camera practically turned to shit overnight with me carrying a pocket full of MS's because sony couldn't go with a damn standard that could handle expansion...up to...what is the max cap of SD before needing to go to the SDHC? 2GB I think?
So yah....no love for the Memory stick in any way.
Jon Doe,
That is the way of technology. You put SD up on a pedestal. Thing is, that format wasn't initially cheap either. Just be glad that you can upgrade/expand the memory on the PSP (you can't do so on the competition).
Amen.
Removable memory stick AND swappable batteries = GREATNESS. I just love these aspects of the PSP.
(even if the memory is a tad expensive in comparison to competitors)
