Wii Fit to cost $89.99 at GameStop
Ready to work off those pounds you've put on during the miserable winter? According to a blurry screenshot (as well as a few rounds of independent confirmation), Nintendo's forthcoming Wii Fit will set you back a cool $89.99, and pre-orderers will be asked to hand over ten whole US bucks (up from five) to reserve their copy. Run along now kiddies and get your reservation on -- no really, run.

The only Wii game I'll pay more than $50 for is Rock Band.
Flashpoint @ Mar 24th 2008 5:23PM
You've got a better chance losing weight on DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION that Wii Fit. I guarrantee you, some people (over the age of 20 - and mostly female) will get this,; use it for a couple weeks, be dissastisfied with their weight loss (or gains) and then hed right for the Haagen Daz !
The Wii Fit board is gonna end up in the closet or in the darkest corner under people's beds within 2 months.
peestandingup @ Mar 24th 2008 6:31PM
Who said anything about weight loss?? Its called "Wii Fit" not "Wii Weight Loss".
Americans have this mentality that people who are active must be trying to lose weight. We have a VERY diet mentality. Its not about that. Its about developing a healthy lifestyle in a fun & interactive way.
And if you shed a few pounds while doing it, so be it. You probably needed it anyway.
Ruben @ Mar 24th 2008 6:39PM
I see a ton of people i consider fit that are complete lard asses. /sarcasm
baasit @ Mar 24th 2008 4:04PM
gamestop you are suck
TomTom2007 @ Mar 24th 2008 4:35PM
nice comeback, smooth, real smooth man... hehe
tom @ Mar 24th 2008 4:04PM
I heard that thing can only support up to 300 lbs, Has that been super-sized to the American standard?
Chuckles McGee @ Mar 24th 2008 4:18PM
Perhaps getting light enough to play Wii Fit will be a motivator in itself for the morbidly obese to drop some pounds.
Mattb90 @ Mar 24th 2008 4:58PM
Is 300lbs (or about 136kg) really an issue? I mean, anyone over that weight, of any height, is clearly obese at the very least, so surely this won't affect the vast majority of people? Or have things really got that bad in the US?
jared @ Mar 24th 2008 5:47PM
They don't want to adjust it for americans, they want you to buy 2 wii fits, one for each shank of a leg, and capable of holding (most) americans.
tom @ Mar 24th 2008 6:12PM
@Mattb90- The 300 lb limit is the maximum weight which the wiifit will tolerate. I personal am nowhere close to that limit, but would be interested to shape up a bit.
My obese friend will be very upset when he sees it and told not to get on it.
Kamokazi @ Mar 24th 2008 6:45PM
mattb-
Yes, it will be a bit of an issue. Average weight in 2002 for male adults was 191 lbs. It's probably gone up a little by now, near 200 I would bet. Hmm...I can't find the statistics I'm looking for, but I wouldn't be suprised if 10% of the American people weigh 300lbs.+ This also can vary greatly by region something instereting I turned up was the percent of obese people by state and how it's changed over the years:
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/trend/maps/
So yes, we have a lot of fatties here in the US. My ideal weight is probably about 20-30lbs. lower (5'10" and I weigh ~205-210), and I'm lucky I have a pretty high metabolism, otherwise with what I eat I'd be a lot bigger.

" Run along now kiddies and get your reservation on -- no really, run." brilliant lyric of the day
bsm0f0 @ Mar 24th 2008 4:08PM
I didn't laugh at that until I saw it was posted by some guy named Hussein ...
phanbouy @ Mar 24th 2008 4:16PM
ever see this comic in the sunday paper called Non-Sequitir?
Matt @ Mar 24th 2008 4:09PM
Is this really new? I saw a printed poster at my local Game Stop saying it would cost $89.99 and require a pre-order of at least $10 last week.
Jagster @ Mar 24th 2008 4:24PM
You should go take a blurry picture of it and send the pic to some ramdom gaming site so it looks like you got the 133+ inside scoop.
Brian @ Mar 24th 2008 4:31PM
Nice....lol.
Joe Anstine @ Mar 24th 2008 4:10PM
You know there's this thing called Running Outside that is supposed to have ridiculously good graphics AND actually cost a fraction of the price of the Wii FIT and a Wii. Its as close to RL as you can get. oh, wait...
sinai @ Mar 24th 2008 4:13PM
take your shin splints and shove em up your ass. that shit hurts
Ray @ Mar 24th 2008 4:13PM
Really? I thought Running Outside was vaporware.
I know a cheat where you take these needles and stick them in your arm...
thatkidmattt @ Mar 24th 2008 4:22PM
While I tend to agree, I would venture to say that running on a city's streets/sidewalks is a terrible experience. I blame no one that says that they refuse to run outside in Philadelphia.
And lap work is boring.
Zak @ Mar 24th 2008 4:39PM
Yes Joe, because obviously nobody would live where it gets to 120 degrees in the summer. I mean gosh, there's absolutely no way that I would rather be inside doing some non-impact exercise in my air conditioned living room instead of collapsing from overheating and dehydration.
In short, don't be a damn idiot.
Benster @ Mar 25th 2008 1:48PM
There's also this thing for those who HAVE to work out in front of a TV and don't have water bottles.
I believe it is refered to as a PUSH UP or a SIT UP. Of course you could also emulate Wii Fit by hoping up and down, and/or bending back and forth while playing Smash Bros.
spike @ Mar 24th 2008 11:16PM
If it's 120 degrees where you are, don't be a damn idiot...just move!
Oh yeah, don't be a p*ssy, either.
Kurt @ Mar 24th 2008 4:21PM
the slalom skiing game looked kind of cool. Oh yeah and no crap about the cost I preordered it 2 weeks ago and it was 89.99 plus tax.
phanbouy @ Mar 24th 2008 4:24PM
Richard Simmons not included.
(nor is a Cornballer for that matter)
Viney @ Mar 24th 2008 4:37PM
"[bleep] stupid cornballin' piece of [bleep]"
phanbouy @ Mar 24th 2008 4:44PM
Because he’s your brother, and you run around with everyone else, going on bike rides, making cornholes. Everyone’s laughing and riding and cornholing except Buster.
Hax Or @ Mar 24th 2008 4:25PM
I would like to see a foot race game for the Balance Board.
"Come on Jerry, race him! Race him or I'm fired"
Mike Street @ Mar 24th 2008 4:44PM
I'll pass on that one.
tiuk @ Mar 24th 2008 4:52PM
Not really a bad price considering how much more tech the pad has in it compared to say, a guitar hero controller.
miko34 @ Mar 24th 2008 5:18PM
Are you sure that's not $69.99 instead of $89.99? I can't imagine anyone paying 90 bucks for that. Nintendo wouldn't do that, would they? Isn't it simply a scale with a flattened Wii remote inside?
At $70 -- I'd consider it (depending on reviews)
At $90 -- I'll pass.
... ....
Jagster @ Mar 24th 2008 6:58PM
Hey, this is Nintendo we're talking about here. After all, the Wii is just a slightly overclocked GameCube with an IR controller that has a cheap accelerometer in it and they sell it for 3 times the price of the normal GameCube.
source: http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/09/24/is-wii-really-gamecube-one-point-five-yes-says-beyond3d.aspx
And if you haven’t read the earlier posts, there are some people who have already pre-ordered and others who have seen full posters up at game stores showing the price. So there’s no reason to question the report or hope that it’s not really $90.
sheehanj @ Mar 24th 2008 5:23PM
Local gamestop reported they've been taking pre-orders for 3 weeks now?
FreeRange @ Mar 24th 2008 5:23PM
What's that about the $10 deposit in the product name? Is that already deducted from the price or in addition? I would think it would be $99 as that's a more standard price point but $89 after you take your $10 deposit into account...
LongshotX @ Mar 24th 2008 5:27PM
Go Jaguars! The Wii Fit is ridiculous! I just thought I had to let every know with my initial statement that the Jaguars rock!
phanbouy @ Mar 24th 2008 5:42PM
So all you're sayin' is that "Pearl Harbor" sucked?
Vagrant @ Mar 24th 2008 5:29PM
Doesn't everyone know you can do more than just exercise with this? There are games like skiing, snowboarding and numerous other amusements. They had various commercials showing the different things developed for it while I was in Japan for the last couple months. It was the typical commercials of people utilizing the product. The price in Japan was 8800Yen, which is about the $89.
Anyways, I saw various department stores with them in a display box, one stacked on the other. (Guess I should've took a picture.) The point is, they didn't seem to be running short of supplies on this.
Ruben @ Mar 24th 2008 7:51PM
Yea, people dont get that theres a ton of stuff you can do with this. You can use it to get you that extra 2 inches needed to reach the nice wine cups on the top shelf, kill a family of ants in one hurl (spring is coming), fan off a hot child, and use it to rest an awkward object on top of it so it doesn't score your hardwood.
I, unfortunately, dont have enough room in my closet where this would eventually end up after a month.
ScooterDe @ Mar 24th 2008 6:04PM
think you are being robbed? Try 90 euro (= $130) standard retail in mainland Europe. There is no excuse for such behaviour. Shame on you, Nintendo.
Sean S @ Mar 24th 2008 6:48PM
Am I the only one who read that as "WiFi to cost $89.99 at GameStop"? I thought it was an article about the xbox 360 wireless network adaptor...
alegria690 @ Mar 24th 2008 10:28PM
I actually have one right here. maybe its because i can't understand japanese well enough but its really not all of that. It has you balance on one foot and keep your weight balanced and stuff like that. I'm about 165- 170lbs 5'9 and it tells me I'm overweight. It makes my Mii fatter and skinner depending on my weight(Ie if I have more cloths on and I'm heavier or if i only apply half my weight)
Helidaddy @ Apr 11th 2008 3:12AM
This is funny. I'll bet the same people who say that this is too expensive, had no problem shelling out the same price for Guitar Hero III. If you're interested in this game, buy it. If it's not what you thought it would be sell it on eBay. :)
