Ill stick with my cheapo fake gold $2 watch.
I ditched my watch a while ago. Not so long ago, the nerdy watch tan line became invisible to the naked eye.
Well hell! All married men ditch their wedding rings, too! Then those "nerdy ring tan lines" will be invisible to the naked eye, too!
If you want to look LESS like a nerd you should wear a nice analog watch.
*looks at the top-right corner of my screen*
..and on the rare occasion I /do/ go outside, I have my cell phone. Watches can go away.
A nice watch is a important part of your attire. Cell phones can't replace a watch.
@Abuzar:
Maybe its just me, but I see less and less people wearing watches. I don't have a watch, which might explain my inability to arrive to places on time.
I personally would not walk around without my watch. It's just a part of what I wear everyday. It's pretty heavy, but I don't even feel the weight anymore lol.
hehe, ya, gadget watches are pretty nerdy... but if you gonna sport a geeky gadget might as well go all the way with the DigitalRise D199i Cell phone Watch.... Dick Tracey or James Bond definitely would have one... LOL http://www.chinagrabber.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1547&HS=1
@Abuzar :only if is a real Rolex, otherwise will not give any status.
First of all you don't need a Rolex, a nice looking watch will do.
Second, I have a Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean and a Submariner, and I prefer the Omega.
I had a similar iteration like 4 years ago by Diesel (given to me by my ex girlfriend). Neat watch, until it died during a hot tub sex romp (with new girlfriend).
lol my hero

Similar to this watch, but all black casing, beveled face into a slimmer band.
does anyone know if it will blend?
Everything blends, and Tom Dickson will not stop until it has.
But what's with the leather straps? I've had watches with leather straps, but they make me all sweaty underneith, which is NOT good with leather, because that means the leather starts stinking and then you're in for a world of stink.
No, I think I'll stick with my old-school titanium Inex.
I prefer a metal band as well. Same reasons you mention. I have a four year old Seiko Kinetic. No need to ever replace a battery. It works just fine and looks pretty good. I use a watch for utility first. Something like this Diesel watch would be okay as a fashion accessory, I suppose, but I wouldn't want to wear it all the time. It is pretty though.
Although these watches don't qualify, if you own a nice watch, you must also own a leather band for it. At least that's what my father always said, and he collects Patek Philipes.
Hmm, I guess Rolex missed the boat then, didn't they? :p
While steel or other band watches are excellent for everyday wear, a quality leather band watch is a must for use with formal wear like a nice suit.
For use during physical activity and/or work (with my job both categories go together), a rubber/vinyl/whatever or fabric band watch works better. Preferably, the $8 wal-mart digital ones that don't die!
yes... Rolex did miss the memo. Take a look at a lot of 'premium' watch companies... and their bands are SO much nicer than Rolex (heck... just take Omega for example).
And if all you think Rolex is... is Submariners, Datejusts, and GMTs... you're missing a whole lot of Rolex. :P
Leather can make a HUGE statement. Take a look at a nice leather equipped Panerai, and you'll be a leather convert for sure. ;) I have a nice Shell Cordovan strap on my Panerai, and I loves it. Shell Cordovan ftw!
Fair enough. But there are plenty of high style, high fashion watches which don't have leather bands. I do have an old Seiko dress watch (not really an expensive watch, but very nicely styled nonetheless) with a leather band and I do like the look, but it is not for everyday wear for me.
Although, I read in Esquire last month that the new thing this summer is taking your $5000 mechanical Bell and Ross and slapping a bright colored $20 nylon strap on it.
P.S. Happy Penguin: I bring up Patek Philippe and you bring up Rolex? That's like me bringing up Ferrari and you bringing up Corvette. Take a look at Patek's 2007 collection, tell me what bands they use for all of those $20k-$100k watches.
Well, there's no accounting for taste. :p
Andrew, Rolex does have watches that cost more than 100k. I personally think Rolex are very nice looking watches, just because everyone knows about them doesn't take away from their value.
Sorry to repost this but apparently I hit the wrong reply or something:
@Andrew
I'll check out some Patek Philippe. I love watches But I hardly think Rolex compares to a Corvette.
My last comment was at the nylon strap thing.... yikes.
I just looked at the Patek Philippe website. I see a lot of simple, elegant and classic designs. They're very beautiful watches.
Magnulus...that's pretty funny. I've never dealt with a stinky leather band and I do have several leather banded watches, but I can see it happening. The trick with leather is to not wear it as you would a typical watch, ie: wear it to bed, etc. It's almost like jewellery where you need to take it off for bed/washing dishes/sweating profusely/etc. If you treat it like jewellery then it won't um, stink. The metal ilk of watches on the other hand will withstand all of that so it's more low maintenance which I believe to be the reason many men tend to prefer them. I agree however, coming from tradition that a man needs at least a few good leather watches sitting around for different occasions (weddings, funerals, formal parties, etc.). I have both leather and metal watches.
Sadly, I admit however that I own and love my spot watch which I wear daily *and to bed* (I know, major geekdom point subtraction and ultimate fashion faux pas)....lol. I guess I shouldn't really be giving advice seeing that the watch is leather and (gulp), rubber (well the antenna has to go SOMEWHERE).
Designed by wankers, for wankers.
Nope! It ain't designed for you!
amazon seller has the $120 for $99. say what you will about these watches, but the DZ7076 is HOT
I have the LED version of that one. Diesel makes very nice cheap watches
Actually it's the same as i have. The one on the right is LED no OLED. The one on the left is OLED and is already for sale for a while know.
People not liking these watches must be americans. Americans don't know anything about fashion or style.
Why is the DZ7086 more than the DZ7076? Doesn't the DZ7076 have a bigger screen? What am I missing?
maybe the color v monochrome has something to do with it?
Didn't notice that. Stupid me.
Because only the DZ7086 is OLED. The other one is LED and I know because i'm wearing it.
So you aren't stupid, engadget is ;-)
Diesel "looses" two more... amazing editing
I don't care if 'looses' is being used correctly or incorrectly..it always looks (and sounds), f*cked!
Pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the title. It's like saying "Diesel lets two more loose".
@Andrew
I will do that. I love watches. I'll check out some Patek Phillippe. But I hardly think Rolex compares to a Corvette.
My last comment was at the nylon strap thing.... yikes.
While in a semiawake/conscious state , someone liked my citizen more than I did , borrowed car too
I'm surprised Engadget reports on OLED Diesel watches without reporting on Suunto watches, Casio Pathfinders and some of the more featured Citizens and Seikos.
Don't get me wrong, Diesel is my favorite fashion brand, but just having an OLED doesn't make this watch more tech-y than Pathfinders with electronic compasses, solar power, atomic timekeeping, barometers etc...
What wonders me more is that these watches are not new. They are on sale for months now in Belgium where i live.
Off topic, but, more of those wonderful CPU cycle sucking Flash ads. Seriously, I have a dual core processor and when that thing is running it sucks up at least 30% of my CPU. Bad Engadget. I know that editorial is not the same as marketing, but anything that drags my computer down like that has to go. ABP is getting turned back on until you can knock some sense into you marketing department...
You run windows?
The majority of people that own personal computers still do. You get that smarm from an Apple ad?
LOL WUTS A MAC?
Don't get pissy, just get Adblock. You can thank the developers later.
uh, "ABP is getting turned back on until you can knock some sense into you marketing department..."

I want a bigger display with huge flashing animations I want to see my fellow commuters dance!
not small are they!
Bah, watches. The tool of people bound by time, with a strap. Anchor of order. The only thing that gives it higher rank than the tie in the order of icons of slavery is that it actually serves a function.
You're either joking or holed up in a bunker somewhere.
Now why would that be.
hehe, or a $219 cell phone wrist watch with camera... http://www.chinagrabber.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1547&HS=1
niice but i no need a watch :)
Love the design on these.
These are ugly. Not just ugly by Diesel standards, but ugly compared to even the $5 Wal-Mart watches. Diesel had released such beautiful watches with the DZ8000 series. These only soil that start. Bleh. All gimmick and no game.
Correction. I was actually referring to the DZ7080 and DZ7079 as the better series of Diesel OLED watches.
Guys you made my day.I came here to pick up info on that watch and there is Apple V MS here too !! Amazing how it can creep up just about in any story on Engadget !
I think Starck & Fossil should be looking @ any design patents they may have filed.
Plus leather = no - for me (go vegan)

Those would look huge on my wrist.
