Just in case a completely
ho hum 17-incher wasn't enough to keep your attention this morning, Toshiba is trumpeting its "design prowess" by introducing four "re-imagined" Satellites. As of today, the 13.3-inch
U400, 14.1-inch M300, 15.4-inch
A300 (pictured) and 17-inch
P300 have all been ever-so-slightly refreshed with the outfit's Fusion Finish, Feather-Touch multimedia keys, white LED accents and built-in
Dolby Sound Room technology. Additionally, Tosh is unveiling its totally useful Sleep-and-Charge USB ports, which enable users to charge up their portable gadgetry via USB regardless of whether the laptop is powered on / off or in Sleep mode. Check out the gloating in full below.

They need to do something about how thick their laptops look. There's a kid in front of me right now at school, and his Toshiba laptop looks like it could fit 2 and a half of my m1330's inside.(and have room leftover)
Now if only my PS3 would do that (USB Charging while on stand-by)!
Totally agree, when the PS3 is "asleep" it should charge the damn controllers.
Sleep and charge? My XPS 1530 already does this. Nothing new here.
If i remember correctly my m1330 does this also. And it's not ugly ^_^
/agree! The XPS's rock!
I hate them fruity apple tarts!
its not even just in dell, sager has notebooks with this and havent been beaten as badly by an ugly stick. makes you wonder how hard toshibas actually trying in the laptop sector.
The Macbook Pro does it as well, and it is a very good looking notebook.
@ hughes....grats.
haha april fools, the satellite design stays!!!
Press release sez:
"Each new Satellite series sports Toshiba’s Fusion™ Finish in a Horizon pattern. More than just a graphic element, the Fusion Finish is a unique combination of appearance and texture. The Horizon pattern’s grey pinstripes set upon a field of black, combined with the new Fusion Finish pattern effectively gives each laptop a unique and modern appeal by sealing the laptop casing in a clear, glossy treatment."

LOL.
Gotta love press-release talk.
I'm glad Toshiba is growing up and moving away from silver-coated keyboards. Though I can't say I'm happy with gloss or the dark melt-in-the-sun colours.
old news,
we've been selling the 15.4 for two days at my work
but i still want one
You get the award for worst avatar!
good lord... do not got to his myspace page... thats too much dave for me
Does anyone happen to have the Wallpaper shown in the Product shots?
I like it quite a lot..
too bad toshiba's service sucks!
two of my friends had their dvd drives broken, both of them went to service ceter, got the drive replaced and it was still broken!
one of them even had a "toshiba dvd drive test cd" which was 4 gbs of porn labelled "mr. & mrs. smith"
ThinkPads have this facility already too.
My desktop has done this for years. Although, I think MSI overlooked something on my motherboard. My previous board did not have this "feature".
Your Desktop CHARGES via the usb port? Amazing..
Tom G.
Me thinks you failed to comprehension.
Well I definitely did.
My apologies for being harsh, I take everything back (:
So I've been looking for a 17 inch laptop... But why is it that so many 17 inch ones only have a WXGA resolution, same as their 15.4 inch versions?
Seriously, why would I want a bigger screen with the same bad resolution?
So if you can't plug it into AC power, you have to waste even more charge by turning it on in order to charge from USB?!... maybe I'm okay with sacrificing some notebook charge for emergency phone or MP3 player charge. Just throw a little switch on it so I can leave things plugged in too if I want kay? Thanks!
My 2 yr old Dell Inspiron E1505 also does this, but it doesn't advertise it as a "feature". There exists a BIOS option to remove power from usb-ports while sleeping.
this is nothin' new, my 7inch Eee PC does this.
