Gigabyte's GSmart Smart Touch UI shown on video
Check it -- Gigabyte has just revealed details about a swank new user interface for its GSmart mobiles, and it has been coined Smart Touch. Sadly, multi-touch gestures aren't supported, but it does handle dragging / dropping and gives users oodles of customization options. Comically enough, the note on the new UI actually admits that it "works like [the interface on the] iPhone," but it claims to be superior due to its tight-knit integration and more "useful and interesting features." Sure, alrighty. We'll let you be the judge on this one -- jump on past the break for an excruciatingly long demonstration vid.

Yeah, we cant have people claim to be better than Apple, can we?
In other news, Apple claims to have the worlds greatest (fill in the blank), and we agree!

Six (wasted) minutes of showing icon management and the clock. The iPhone can swipe a whole screen full of icons, but that is only 1/100 of what it can do. Where was the app integration? What are these "useful and interesting features?" This thing looks to have a small screen, poor viewing angle, and slow redraw. I didn't see a single thing that looked better than an iPhone.

"As silberdog says, "What are these 'useful and interesting features'?" Swiping back and forth to change from an analogue to digital clock? I'd file that under "novelty"."
As opposed to pinching a picture to resize it? Tell me that's not a novelty.
This whole "touch" interface thing is too new to act as if anyone has it right.

I don't consider it a novelty. Zooming in allows you to see detail; zooming out allows you to see the entire picture. Both the digital and analogue clock are going to show you the same time.
If this interface has an option for world clocks and you could swipe back and forth between local, Paris, New York, etc., *that* could be useful. But swiping to change what is essentially a display preference: Novelty.

So they can take it from me that all this does is make me want to use my iPhone because I know how much better it is, I'm an iPhone user - unlike you!
So it's a nice skin (that tries badly to be an iPhone) built on top of Win-mobile, big woop.

Haha, garbage. It's built on Windows Mobile, you can see her tapping the corner icons with the tip of her nail. I'm not an iPhone fan but I hate all these interface apps that just run on top of a crummy system like WinMo. Someone needs to develop a new interface from scratch!

Based on windows mobile and looks this good.
Genius.
Has all the great features of windows mobile, e.g. the office apps (word excel etc. - all not on iPhone), connectivity (on windows mobile I can share music with my friends via bluetooth, I dont see the iPhone doing this) - Multimedia Messaging (NOT ON iPHONE) - Video recording (not on iPhone).
Plus has a great interface built ontop (iphone can't do this either, I can change my interface with skins/apps, can you iPhone users).
I have a question for you iPhone lovers:
Why are you paying so much money for a device which doesn't even do some of the most basic of tasks. Yes it looks great, but it does f*** all. I can understand it for a reasonable price(I may even buy it, if it was cheaper), but DAMN. How the hell can they charge so much for this device?
Anyway - that is my rant over with.

I installed it yesterday, and I actually really like it. It's slick looking, runs beautifully on my HTC Touch, and as noted it is very easy to use. A welcome change from the HTC Home Today screen plugin.
