ASUS Eee PC given away with T-Mobile mobile broadband package
We're calling this right now: ASUS' Eee PC is the new MP3 player. But only in the context of giveaways. Anywho, just days after RBC announced that it would dish out free subnotes if prospective customers joined in, PowerUp Mobile is now offering a similar deal for UKers who sign up for T-Mobile's Web n Walk mobile broadband package. In short, folks comfortable with inking their name on a two-year contract at £35 per month will net a free USB modem and a Eee PC 2GB Surf. Better hurry -- the deal expires on June 15th.

When will an American bank, broadband provider, or other company start giving these things away?
JAmerican @ May 8th 2008 9:42AM
Yea like 2 years after their European or Japanese counterparts as it is with the mobile phone market.

Please give us your soul for a eee pc?

I guess if you wanted a mobile computer with mobile broadband - its good.
Personally, I have no need, and £35 ($70) over 2 years is a bit steep considering you can get it for £15 and £25 (depending on bandwidth) standalone from other providers without the Eee PC. Which saves you ove the two years... £480/240. Which is enough for an Eee PC anyway...

I think I may get that deal :-)

Too bad T-Mobile's internet connection is awful...

T-Mobile has gaps in its 3G coverage in the West End. The company's recommendation was to switch my network mode to 2G only (which worked, but obviously reduced the speed to a crawl). So I switched to Vodafone 3G. Both companies offer a monthly package of 3GB traffic for £15.

A mobile provider in Slovenia did this a month ago, except that you had to pay 300€ for it. Basically, it's not that you bought the 3G modem and got the EEE for free, but you bought the EEE (the 4g black EEE costs 300€) and got their shitty modem for free.
Sad part is, they don't offer unlimited data plans, biggest one is 50gb/m. I should really switch to Vodafone...

With '3' in the UK, you can get a 3G Modem for £10 per month on a 24 month contract. So £35 per month seems high. And unlike voice plans, data plans cannot be downgraded after a certain period!

WOW! That is a TERRIBLE deal. For what you're paying, you could just buy a better eee PC and get the mobile broadband separate. Who would even do this for the 2g eee which can't have its RAM upgraded?

Movistar has been offering something similar in Chile for a couple of months now. EeePc + Huawei E226 on a 3 year 1gig/month contract.

In Soviet Russia, Eee PC and USB modem gives away you!
:::rimshot:::
Seriously, not a good deal....
gyffes @ May 8th 2008 10:10AM
Unfortunately, as much as I adore my 4G eee, the 2G is so crippled as to make this a really lousy deal.
