K-Touch's 8 megapixel C280 cameraphone flaunts Canon image processing
Remember when Samsung was pumping out cameraphones with increasingly ridiculous megapixel counts? At the moment, phones top-out at about 5 megapixels. Until this, the 8 megapixel C280 with 3x optical zoom and claimed 1600 ISO support (right) from the previously unheard of K-Touch. Ironically, it might very well be using a CMOS sensor from Samsung. Perhaps more interesting though is the fact that it'll be using Canon's own DIGIC III image processing when it hits the Chinese market.

Nothing but gimmick, 8mp is useless on cameras like that
Rob @ May 26th 2008 5:31AM
Nonsense... it has a real lens and almost certainly a real sensor behind it. It probably takes pictures as good as any compact digital camera, not the megapixels of pure noise that most cellphone cameras get.
It IS definitely a gimmick though. Too big and awkward for me.
pfromg @ May 26th 2008 6:18AM
thats no gimick !
its a decent lens and a real chip , unlike the garbage you get with all the other mobile phone cameras currently on the market.
gad get @ May 26th 2008 6:29AM
It's more a camera with a built-in phone than vice versa.
Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead talking on a cam-- er, a phone that looked like that.
Say that fast: cam-- er, a phone.
tchapp @ May 26th 2008 4:03AM
wow, and here i am stuck with HTC's shitty camera that claims to be 2MP on my Mogul (titan/ppc-6800) and its more like the original VGA in terms of picture clarity and actual use.
Brett @ May 26th 2008 4:04AM
There is no way that is a Cameraphone, its a Phonecamera! Seriously look at it, what would u think it is?
Then again, i did have people asking if my K750i was a camera... stupid americans.
S7ORM @ May 26th 2008 4:16AM
Ahh my apologies! I have many good friends in the US, i dont hate them, its just a common joke sterotype, which i know isnt right. But there is some truth in "You hate us because you aren't us".
I do also think the reason people didnt know my K750i was a phone was cause you dont have that model over there, but im not sure.
Anyway, Sorry Matt, and every other american i offended.
Troels C @ May 26th 2008 6:49PM
If it wasn't for the "stupid americans" there wouldn't be a computer to type this message on. Then again, that wouldn't matter because there wouldn't be an internet to post it through.
Anyways, I prefer a dedicated camera.

5MP of Junk ?
A good 3MP is what you need not a junky 5MP
The only way to check it is to test it.
Is there any good Camera Phone review web sights ?

What are you talking about? It's not even 5 MP, it's 8. And it looks like it's a pretty decent compact camera.

can anyone post the contents of this page elsewhere and provide a link to it? Because GMS Arena blocked my IP (dynamic IP address, probably blocked someone else).
Or just post the conclusion of the roundup :)
I'd like to see how Nokia N82 goes against others.

With 25% of the worlds GDP America can tell all you haters to F off.
Lets see,
If it was not for the USA - digital camers would not be with us.
All that R&D from NASA and DOD, is why we have LCD / Digital Photos.
It's probably about time the USA moved it's manufacturing from China to another cheaper 3rd world country.
tchapp @ May 26th 2008 4:48AM
haiti? think of the savings in regards to shipping.
iruka @ May 26th 2008 5:05AM
Uhm... What about Japan? That's where all the great camera brands came from.

But... labor's not cheap there.
Hung @ May 26th 2008 9:31AM
Ok, Ok, I'm more proud of being an American than you (being born in communist Vietnam helps me appreciate democracy a tad more than most US-born citizens), but I'm tired of these international pride/bash threads between the least intellectual posters from each country. It just looks bad for mankind.
End this thread, NOW!

Kudos for the 8mp and the 1600 ISO on a Cameraphone, that´s really NICE!
But the niceness ends there, the camera is FUGLY! It looks like a soap-bar with buttons or something that looks like it belongs to the bathroom,
not exactly pretty, and whats with the two directional buttons and the placement?
Toink @ May 26th 2008 6:14AM
Holy UGLINESS!!!
Daza @ May 26th 2008 6:16AM
I would shit bricks if they ever developed mobile phone camera using the D!G!C III processor.
Matt @ May 26th 2008 12:32PM
They did!.......And gues what....You just posted on a thread about it!
Mehul @ May 28th 2008 12:04AM
I doubt Canon would lease the DIGIC processor. It being a Chinese manufacturer, chances are they just used the DIGIC name without permission. Plus, I think news like this would have been in Canon's press release long time ago.
I'll wait till it actually comes out to see how true it is.
Jake Paul @ May 26th 2008 7:18AM
First off, that shell is hideous. It looks like a DIY storm trooper camera.
Second off, unless this comes in pre-paid there's no point in owning it. I could see throwing $20 on it every couple of months to e-mail myself awesome on-the-go shots, but I can't imaging this being my primary phone.
Lastly, unless the girl comes with it, the price is probably not going to be worth it. Optional camera features are just that - secondary features. 80% of the phone cost shouldn't be for the camera sensor.
Mark @ May 26th 2008 7:38AM
She's so pretty. I like Aving.net because of the pretty models.
Pretty.
Genjinaro @ May 26th 2008 7:46AM
Some of you guys are crazy bashing this phone.
Until they bomb with a price tag, 8MP camera on a phone = EPIC Victory!!!
I mean really, there are "some" moments in life where you just so happen to come across
something awesome enough for that "Kodak moment" so you whip out your 8.1MP Niko-
Oh wait You don't carry that around, all you have is that crappy 2MP-3MP camera phone.
I have a crappy 2MP shot of a Ford GT I took on the spur of the moment with my Mogul, I wish i had better for that unexpected moment.

that keypad looks like its been designed to operated by chop-stick !
Even a Canon image processor can't make a CMOS look good, how about plumping for a full CCD in future ?
g-man @ May 26th 2008 12:36PM
There is absolutely ZERO chance that this thing has a Canon DIGIC III processor in it. Does anybody here really believe that Canon would license their exclusive technology - the one thing they most promote as responsible for the image quality of their cameras - to an almost completely unknown Chinese cell phone manufacturer?
If it truly has a DIGIC III processor in it, it'll almost certainly turn out to be an unlicensed clone and this phone will never see the light of day in any market where the law is properly applied. Much more likely though is that either AVING (who seem to be the source of this nonsense) misunderstood their Beijing Tianyu representative, or simply cut'n'pasted an old article and missed editing that bit out.
It's absolutely hilarious how many sites have picked up and are running with this news without taking one moment to confirm its accuracy.
Jamar @ May 26th 2008 6:33PM
Well, would they do it themselves and risk a flop? For example, Samsung keeps throwing high-powered cameraphones out into Korea every so often, but we usually never hear anything of it after the press release. Hmmm...
Ace b @ May 26th 2008 2:56PM
But if it's using a canon's image processing, doesnt that mean that it's really good?
Suomynona.Eno @ May 26th 2008 4:21PM
If it's gonna be a decent phone with serious DIGIC III capabilities for digicam, sign me up. I don't really care if it's gonna be .8 or 8mp. But they gotta straighten out the keys design though. I don't give a shit about the finalized dimensions either. Can safely vouch that I have bigger hands than that model's.
For once I'd like to pay good money for a cellphone that won't force me to lug along a compact digicam.
NATE @ May 26th 2008 6:06PM
8 mega pixel wow thats outta control!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for samsung they might as well change their name to SAMSUCK
Dear Leader @ May 26th 2008 9:51PM
I seriously doubt Canon will allow the name of their proprietary image processor, which they marketed to high heaven, to be sullied by some cheap-ass looking phone from some unknown brand.
Ergo, I call shenanigans on the DIGIC thing.
P.S. Gold glitter nail paint doesn't help.
CHENG @ May 27th 2008 8:28AM
It is not true that 5 megapixels is the highest pixel for a camera phone.
The phones in Japan and Korea are actually one to two years more advance than the ones which is used worldwide. In Korea, Samsung have the 10 megapixels phone for sale. They are just not used globally because of different SIM cards.
It's just like the television enabled phones or the TV abled MP3.
