Treo 700wx to get Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade?
According to some slides unearthed over at TreoCentral, it looks like the Verizon Treo 700wx could be an unlikely candidate due for the Windows Mobile 6.0 (not 6.1) treatment. Usually carriers like Verizon won't bother upgrading devices as old as these with newer versions of their mobile OS -- partly to induce future handset purchases -- so we'll have to remain a touch skeptical until such time as the upgrade really does launch.

As I just got my 700wx a couple days ago, this would be fantastic. I like WM5, but it's showing its age compared to my Mogul.
I got it for free from a family member who wanted to go back to a flip phone and had barely ever used their WX. It's a nice phone so far, reception could be better, but its way faster then my old 700w
I know they have had the 700wx for a little while now, but what about all of the early 700w adopters? I assume RAM would be the issue (hence only showing the wx in this slide), but I still feel jiped by being an early 700w customer.
Eric
Well, you knew you were only getting 32mb of RAM when you bought it. Buyer's remorse gets the best of us.
But I'm sure you're correct that this won't be coming to the 700w because of that RAM problem; WM6 generally takes about 6mb more than WM5 to run.
bout time? I mean tmobile upgraded htc dash soon as wm6 launched couple years ago. But its good that customers are at least finally getting an upgrade, just wish they would gotten it couple years ago.
I think this is a good idea. They're firmware looks very outdated and old fashioned. I hope Blackberry upgrades too because their's look outdated as well.
Releasing some new, good looking phone would be a good idea too.
Where's clak? Usually he starts dissing MS as soon as it's posted.
Left? Banned? Hmmm...
no he posted about the apple graphics cards.
don't worry, i already left my feces there
wow that was quick. bye, spammer!
hmm.. my comment's gonna look REALLY outta place when the above spammer gets deleted, so i'm preempting it right now!
I'll light a candle for the dead spammer so your post will not be in vain. :p
Wow! With the upgrade to WinMo 6.0, this Treo will make an excellent paperweight. Who would imagine somebody paying $500 for that ancient 700wx clunker when you can buy an iPhone 3G for $199. I guess P.T. Barnum was right when he said "A Treo sucker is born every minute." Yup, ol' P.T. knew his shizzle.
What does this have to do with an iPhone? Oh, nothing? Then STFU.
If people wanted to buy a new phone, then this would be irrelevant. However, for those of us that aren't rich, prolonging the life of a phone with new firmware is ALWAYS a good thing. Those of use who aren't millionaires can get a newish phone all without having to purchase new hardware.
Again: Nothing to do with an iPhone in any sense. STFU, as always.
You mean an iFool is born every second....no wait, scratch that.
Apple only commands 5% of the market, a second is a bit too frequent based on their measley market share.
You know what, man? I'm as sick of your Apple-flogging as I am of the people that bitch about every iPhone story we run. You both sound exactly the same to me. Enough with the trolling.
lol. 3 for 1 pwnage special on aisle six!
I do think this has something to to do with the iPhone: Because Apple is consistently updating the iPhone software (not just for people who buy new handsets), hopefully it's going to push other handset manufacturers/carriers to do the same. If Apple does it, consumers will start to expect it -- and that's good for all of us.
I don't see where the two devices (so to speak, winmobile and iPhone) have so much to do with each other. It seems to me that Winmobile has always been aimed at business class and iPhone was designed from the beginning as consumer class. Certainly each is trying to move into the other's market, but a lot of it is going to be a matter of personal choice. I have a good friend who uses Winmobile. I was comparing my iPhone with her winmobile phone. Her phone is nice, slide out keyboard which I think while superior in operation, makes the device thicker. Her screen is smaller but she has 3G which my iPhone does not have. She uses a stylus which I would hate to have to use but she does have copy/paste, a feature of which the importance still eludes me. The main reason she couldn't go with iPhone is because of the lack of Exchange support. The point is, they are personal choices and some features are going to be deal breakers. But in practice, if the core of what it is, is good, then I fail to see what the argument is about.
I'm sure that the staff likes a good laugh once in a while so if you're going to troll and flamebait could you at least make it humorous so they as well as the rest of us can get some entertainment out of it?
Seriously, just pissing on the floor in someone's house is rude.
the jury's still out on the merit of another engadgeteer's hypothesis that Steffen Jobbs is a "joke member" (that's what she said to him)
i
i PHONE
Poor Palm almost time to put a fork in it.
Love to see them do something... maybe innovative ah forget it.
Their done.
well this looks interesting a firmware update that upgrades an old phone... NICE
i still want to get the Sony Ericsson X1 and it has WM 6.0 bluetooth for all 3g, wifi etc... its greater then the iphone... oh and it also has mms
Steffen Jobs and Fusion Fuzo:
Why don't you two go to an iPhone specific blog so you can stop trolling here. iPhone fanboys.
This news has nothing to do with iPhone. And oviosly hate palm. Then why the heck are you reading a Palm related post waisting your time and other people's time as well.
Fanboys suck, I choose an specific phone but that does not make other phones bad. Every phone has it's pros and cons and people choose a platform based on their needs.
why not just head over to xda-developers and get yourself WM6.1? For free?
