Acer's Aspire One on sale in America, said to be shipping
Acer played it safe early last month by telling Americans to expect its Aspire One "later this year," but just a month and change after UKers had the privilege of toying with one on video, here she comes. So far, we're seeing a couple of variations for sale here in the US, two of which include the $399.99 A110-1295 (8GB SSD) and the $422.99 A150-1006 (120GB HDD). We're also hearing that select e-tailers are already slapping those shipping labels on there and moving 'em out to anxious consumers, so be sure and chime in when your confirmation arrives. Wait, what? You already own six netbooks? Ah well, what's another one amongst family?

Great price! Great for business & travel!

WTF
One time it says there is 1 comment and then it says 0 comment.
Bucky @ Jul 9th 2008 4:19PM
And again, to a superfluous poster, so what? Do you have an insightful comment about the post? Will your post help me decide which small laptop I will buy? Who cares if the number of comments matches? Go away.
WiiFTW @ Jul 9th 2008 4:44PM
He has a point...It's actually quite aggravating that when you see 1 comment on the home page, then click on the article and see no comments. It often leads to double posts when people can't see what they've posted and post it again to make sure it's seen.
He brings a valid point and he doesn't know the appropriate place to bring it up since there's no forums really.
donkamero @ Jul 9th 2008 4:51PM
@ Bucky
To quote yourself right back at you... "Do you have an insightful comment about the post? Will your post help me decide which small laptop I will buy?"
Why do you cares that he commented about that? All you have done is bring more attention to his comment, then increased its part on the page, why? Who cares if you think your a smart-ass, go away! I really get fed-up with the constant stream of people ready to debunk any and every comment on here. Almost 100% of the time these smart-asses use big words in a vain attempt to sound smart or older than whatever teenage year that they are actually in. This time your's is superfluous. Though I do have to at least give you credit for using the word correctly. In most case these people usually use whatever big word they use in the completely wrong context and make more of a full of themselves.
And yes, I do understand the irony in my post.
Bucky @ Jul 9th 2008 8:55PM
@ donkamero:
So, you think I should buy the Eee 901 then?
Bucky @ Jul 9th 2008 4:15PM
Seriously? How did you Apple bash based on this post? I assumed that I was going to be voting down a "First" post, but this is much worse. I've been waiting for all of the little guys to come in before buying one. I'm glad it's here!
You get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Jul 9th 2008 4:16PM
This looks nice. Might pick me up one of these babies.
On a unrelated note. You folks here @ Engadget should input Firefox 3.0's PicLens add-on for your galleries. It would make the spreads real slick and nice. Check it out for yourselves.
coffee @ Jul 9th 2008 4:17PM
Ewiz has them for $382 or something. Well, I guess they're NewBiz now.
sinai @ Jul 9th 2008 4:17PM
wait, so for $23, you can get 512MB more RAM, an additional 112 GB (albeit, not SSD) AND Windows XP? deal of the frickin century!
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 9th 2008 6:10PM
I agree, whats the catch?
I'll take the HDD over SSD any day for that much more capacity!
Number_41 @ Jul 9th 2008 4:18PM
Can someone please explain to me which would be the best netbook of Asus to buy? I wanted an XP Eee 900, but this One looks better.
Would the Atom processor be the best one to go with?
Thanks I am just a little confused why Asus keeps releasing new products...

Asus/=Acer
BrianB @ Jul 9th 2008 5:20PM
Ee PC looks like nothing compared to this. Better processor and better looking, not to mention better pricing. Come on, no contest. Asus was just the first and their product next to the Aspire One loos experimental.
Number_41 @ Jul 9th 2008 6:06PM
Well its somewhat easy to forget whats what. they look alike and offer similar branding, including similar names...sigh

Be afraid. Be very afraid. The desire to defend a product line of apple is the first step to the dark side. Its a long, cold, lonely and dillusional path to become an apple fanboy. Turn back before its too late and your defending apple consumes your life and costs you your family!

The 80gb, 3 cell battery, 512mb ram of this (acer aspire one) costs $379.99 CAD at tigerdirect.ca
The price is very very tempting, but the battery is a complete turn off.
LuvMuffin @ Jul 9th 2008 4:40PM
hopefully the dell e comes out soon too then all the ones i have been waiting for have been shipped then it will time to decide for me

Anyone know where I can found the blue A150 model for sale?
martianaurora @ Jul 9th 2008 4:54PM
Here come the big boys. Goodbye MSI and your never ending delays.
sinai @ Jul 9th 2008 5:09PM
except you can't buy this right now, either.

As the parent and others have said, it can be ordered and it is shipping.

I hear you. I can't wait to see the Dell E series with the 12" slim notebook. That thing is gonna be a beauty and I hope the 9" model will be nice too. Goodbye Asus.
sinai @ Jul 9th 2008 7:29PM
@martian
let me know when someone has ordered one off ewiz.com and got a confirmation that it is shipping today. otherwise, my point still stands. there are tons of small etailers promising to send stuff out before even having any in stock.
also, way to repeat exactly what i said but in a different way. YOU WIN THE PRIZE!
martianaurora @ Jul 9th 2008 9:34PM
@sinai:
Actually, you are correct, you can't buy it.
But I can. And so does everyone else who don't live in their parents' basements.

So are there any comprehensive side by side reviews for all these netbooks yet? I really want one but with them all coming out so fast I was hoping to find some reviews that directly compare performance and specs to help me decide which one to buy.
YpoCaramel @ Jul 9th 2008 5:59PM
LaptopMag has Wind VS EeePC 1000H.
Though performance and specs are really pretty much the same on all netbooks - and with the low level tasks they're doing I doubt you'll notice much difference. It's much more about form factor, ease of use and price.
mReN @ Jul 9th 2008 6:00PM
You can have a look at http://www.umpcportal.com/products/
You can compare products side by side, and more
sinai @ Jul 9th 2008 8:42PM
Amazon pegs the Eee 1000 at $699.
GFY, asus, GFY.
Brady @ Jul 9th 2008 5:38PM
Wow. This is very impressive that they have kicked these things out the door so soon. I was expecting to buy a Wind on June 3rd from Best Buy and here I am a month and a week later and I should be getting it in the mail tomorrow. Thumbs up to Acer for this excellent job done. I almost wish I had held off on a Wind and waited for this beautiful blue beast but I'm sure once I get my Wind I'll be fully pleased. And this thing is about $100 cheaper. If it had a 10" screen then this would be a no brainer. I really hope I get the opportunity to compare these two in my hands at some point.
Guilherme @ Jul 9th 2008 5:58PM
Just called CDW and they said there should be at least one to three weeks to get these acers on stock.
lazerpenguin @ Jul 9th 2008 6:06PM
I just placed my order at CDW, with shipping the total was $433 (for the 120gb model) I called CDW just before placing the order and they said that they are showing 0 in stock and that the next shipment is supposed to come on july 22nd.
I went ahead and placed it, but honestly if I can score a wind sooner ill go with the wind since it has been a toss up between these two. I just hope that I might be able to get leopard to run as smoothly as I've seen the wind run it, which seems likely since they have very similar specs.
lukas88 @ Jul 9th 2008 6:54PM
I wonder if anyone can tell me this:
There seems to be a version with a battery sticking out the back, and a version without it. Is this the 6-cell and 3-cell batteries (respectively)? I assume so, but you never know.
I hate the fact that actual battery size might be the deciding factor for me, but the big batteries looked pretty goofy. The eee has me addicted to small.
Uchiha Sasuke @ Jul 9th 2008 7:25PM

The Microsoft shills are coming out of the wood work, that's how they Apple bash on this post. Microsoft said yesterday they were going on the offensive to defend Vista. You can expect more of this. People are smarter now than in the 90's when this tactic worked. They should make a product that works and not bash people who are moving in hordes to one that does.
Anyhow, this little acer looks pretty cool for a UMPC. I like the looks of it better than the Asus. Anyone know if it will come in a Linux version?
Skazer @ Jul 9th 2008 8:20PM
Just a heads up for fellow Canadians:
This thing is available in many Canada Computers stores RIGHT NOW (and online). They only have the white version, but it's still beautiful. Also, only the Linux/8GB SSD version is available.
I was really tempted to buy it as I held it and tried it out but I quickly dashed out of the store, resisting an impulsive purchase.
Skazer @ Jul 9th 2008 8:23PM
It uses Linpus Linux. Start-up is VERY fast. OpenOffice starts in several seconds, as does the web browser. The interface is very simple and is designed to be.
Skazer @ Jul 9th 2008 8:24PM
Sinai: Not sure about Americans, but it's physically available in Canadian computer stores right now, although it's only the white, Linux version. :)
mirakutea @ Jul 9th 2008 8:32PM
Very nice specs for the price it kind of makes the EEE pc obsolete, right?

I'm not an Apple man, haven't used one since the IIe in grade school. Not to say that I wouldn't, or won't, but I haven't. I was hoping that I was going to see a post that helped me make a decision about which small, portable, relatively inexpensive laptop to buy.
Mr. H @ Jul 9th 2008 10:03PM
Dear Engagdet,
I'm a pretty faithful reader, checking 2 or 3 times a day to read the articles that interest me. These netbooks and their releases are getting out of control. I think I'd like to delve into the market sometime this fall, but the choices are growing faster than I can keep up with (Eee PC has 5 different models now?).
How about a netbook round up post here once the bulk of the primary ones start shipping?
ronald.raygun @ Jul 9th 2008 11:46PM
i agree, a nice little "netbook" roundup and review of all would be nice, or atleast the ones that are the most similar.
