Windows 3.1 gets installed on Nokia's N810, looks badly out of place
After seeing Android all lit up on Nokia's N810 internet tablet, seeing this antiquate piece of software on there just seems... wrong. Still, we can't deny that we're a huge fan of the work, and to be frank, we'd highly recommend anyone with a fair amount of spare time give it a whirl just for nostalgia's sake. Wait, is that a tear we see forming? You softy.

Classic! I remember having to create PIFs. Gonna have to put this on the Touch Pro when it comes in.....
Yeah, now it will play DOOM.
Doom never played in Windows 3.1 you moran. It ran in DOS. :P
Ah, but if you did your PIF file correctly, then it would run in Windows.
Note to Alexander: if you call someone a moron, make sure you spell it properly. It just doesn't have much impact otherwise.
Alexander, you obviously know very little about Windows 3.xx.
You are amazing. I wish I could contribute such thoughtful posts.
3.1 how I miss you! Brings back memories.
The only place I see you anymore is on Windows Installer...
It's what I played with from I was 7 to 12, when we got one of those fancy PIII's running Win98.
Aah, I sort of miss it! I just know it's the sort of nostalgia where you have good memories that have absolutely nothing to do with how it actually was.
I'll add it to the list of reasons to get an internet-tablet...far down the list, but on it nonetheless!
These are tears... tears from seeing such a beautiful device get desecrated by antiquated software.
Dont worry you ll be notify when you can dual boot Leopard and Vista from it.
Next time try counting before you fail.
Give me some bacon asshole, I'm hungry.
If it runs fast enough, you could install Photoshop 3 on that puppy and have a decent, portable image editing studio in your pocket. Bonus points if you can actually get 3D Studio R4 up and running on the thing...
Hey, it looks like they've upgraded Ubuntu!
I wish this will come on the iPhone too. Really miss a proper painting app (and people will stop complaining about missing cut-and-paste)
No; but if I had an iPhone, I would. Because then I wouldn't be able to cut-and-paste my criticism, to wit:
Did they add cut and paste yet?
(BTW, this N800 does have it. :P to his Jobsness...)
13th!! - who's the man???
not u.
You da man now, dawg.
MS Paint 3.1.... I drew a complete stadium with adds, crowds, and shaded green on this baby when I was 10.
Why isn't there an Android Photoshop-eque program in the works?
Werd. Paint on 3.1 was magnificent to behold.
Yeah and I nailed it. My computer teacher saw me once fiddle around with it and draw the shaded pitch grass... he was standing behind me saying: "uh...How did u do that?"
I remember when I was in grade school I re-colored a picture of Mr. Burns so his skin was red, like a devil. Fill didn't work because there were a few different shades, I did almost the entire thing pixel-by-pixel.
God I was a fucking loser.
@Ninja
I hope you meant to say
"Give me some bacon, asshole, I'm hungry."
Otherwise, those poor sodomized pigs!!!
i'm not sure i'd want to eat bacon asshole; that's like double un-kosher!
ha.. chuckles beat me to it. thanks, Weblogs Inc. for your shitty, intermittent-comment hiding!
I'd install it just to play Reversi, and maybe Chuck Yeager's Air Combat.
Nothing but Chip's Challenge for me....
I wonder if it'll run Falcon 3.0!
ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_(computer_game)
We got chip's challenge ported a long time ago, so we run that native...
Still, great old game!
But how will he browse the internet without Mosaic?
Retro redundancy ftw
I think im gonna through up:(
don't worry... just keep working on that gag reflex
Windows 3.1 was my first "real" introduction to computers, not counting some earlier computers like Apple II and the early Macs, which I just thought of as toys, so I'm quite nostalgic about it.
That said, I don't think I would ever put myself through using it again. Windows 95 was hugely liberating from the ridiculous confines of Windows 3.1, it just isn't worth revisiting.
Does look like WM 6.1 tough
Phail.
The N810 comes with WM 6.1 Pro. There is no WM 6.1 Tough.
Except... Not.
@the dude
No... the N810 uses some kind of Nokia OS... Plus to be running WM6.1 pro you need to have to have a "phone" aerial... It would be WM6.1 Classic
What the hell? "Some kind of Nokia OS"??
Linux, you moron.
That's not out of place, that is a thing of exceptional beauty. All they need now is the hot dog stand theme.
Oh man... it makes me want to play that downhill skiing game. You know the one: where the Yeti eats you after a certain amount of time. Classic!
SKIFREE!!!!
man that takes me back. still remember when people were making "lose.bat" files because they didn't want to run "win".
Why is it that the old USENET adage about feeding trolls comes to mind.
grade is when he dropped out of school apparently
@The Dude
Nokia tablets do not come with Win mobile 6.1 pro, the OS is MAEMO.
BTW I do agree with you that it those not come with Win Mobile 6.1 though,.... lol
Windows 3.1 best os ever, no stupid task bar with a start button
Windows 95: The OS that taught us to click start to stop.
Win3.1 wasn't an OS, just a desktop environment.
