Mobile Edge intros TSA-approved ScanFast laptop bags
We can definitely see where this is headed, but shortly after Skooba came clean with actual images of its TSA-approved laptop case, along comes Mobile Edge with a trio of alternatives. The new ScanFast lineup features that oh-so-coveted TSA stamp of approval, meaning that you won't have to remove your precious lappie from any of these cases when passing through airport security here in the US. The entire collection is set to land later this summer for undisclosed amounts, though we'd plan on paying a steep premium for the integrated convenience.

yeah, but how many TSA jerks actually know about this? I'm sure the asses will make you take it out anyways.
Mike @ Jul 18th 2008 11:13AM
I am very interested in this product but until I am aware of the reception from TSA I won't send my money on it. I'm afraid that, like commented above, I will still have to take my laptop out of my bag.
On a side note...why so many front pouches?

I know, I try hard =D
In all seriousness though, what are the chances this certification will mean much of anything though in practice?
Market Data @ Jul 18th 2008 8:52AM
I can't wait to say that to the TSA: "Hey, comma comma pipe comma comma, dick!
Brian @ Jul 18th 2008 8:33AM
pssh! TSA will still make you take you laptop out of your bag and then you will be declared a terrorist because you are "hiding" your laptop and then you will have to eat a cock meat sandwich in Guantanamo Bay. So no thank you!
OneLove @ Jul 18th 2008 11:03AM
Is that a BBQ chicken sandwich in cuba?

I just asked a TSA manager who lives next to us about these bags. She said, and I quote "forget about these bags, we are STILL going to have you pull everything out".. She went on to say "No TSA person is going to risk letting something through and getting fired over it, so we'll look at those bags and just laugh".
OneLove @ Jul 18th 2008 11:04AM
I'll pull it out if shes hot

Ask her if it feels good to help destroy the US..

That may be the case in her mind right NOW, but I would hope that at some point as these become more common and more companies start making them, there will be communications sent out to all TSA employees about how to handle these bags and they will start being more forgiving to people using them.
Amazing what a little cottage industry has sprung up around convenience products for getting through all the TSA BS. Such as, those special ID cards a company is making that lets you go in a separate rapid line (forget the name), and how the price of little 3 oz plastic bottles has shot up!!

Because if it's one thing I like to do, is buy something that conforms to such an inefficient government agency.

TSA Approved is total BS! Do NOT buy anything thinking TSA Approved means anything at all. I bought a pair of TSA Approved Timberland Shoes (still have the box, TSA Approved stamp, etc.) so I wouldn't have to do the shoe bit in the Airport. Guess what? Does NOT mean anything! I even took the stamp through, brochure, etc once and they said it doesn't matter. Its all a load of rubbish. TSA sells this stamp to vendors, then still makes end user jump through hoops! Win-Win for TSA, until someone sues the vendor who then has to sue TSA.

Sounds like a class-action suit to me. I've heard much worse reasons for a law suit.
12volts @ Jul 18th 2008 12:48PM
hahahahahhaah SUCKERS........keep buying them.
The actual approval symbol is for scanner perpose as in: it will not trigger the sensors. I have been to many airport where i dont take my watch or belt off and still walk by with my shoes on with no problem but in other airports you almost have to strip down in order to not make the buzzard go off.
They are not consistant thats for sure!!!!!

Scenario 1: By some miracle, the TSA agents recognize that you have a TSA approved bag and they let it through. The 10 people behind you see this and assume their bags are OK too then they argue when the security guy hassles them over their laptops. The line gets held up why the TSA agents try to explain about "TSA approved" bags and what makes them so special compared to regular bags.
Scenario 2: All of the bags, approved or not, look the same: black, rectangular nylon cases. The TSA agent decides it's easiest to just make everyone take out their laptops. You try to tell him that there is an "approved" logo stitched into some obscure corner of the bag, which he refuses to bother himself to look for. So out comes your laptop.
Scenario 3: TSA agent gets tired of trying to tell the difference between the two kinds and arguing with the people in line, so he lets them all through.

Just to clarify, I work for Mobile Edge and personally went to the TSA to test these new laptop cases. The TSA has now passed a new regulation nationwide to allow travelers to use Checkpoint Friendly laptop bags.
How will they know it is checkpoint friendly you might ask? The TSA screeners will know when they scan the bag and get a clear picture of your laptop without any obstructions. Only cases designed for this will pass through. With these new cases you will fly through scanners like you own the place. Seriously.
If you want any more info feel free to e-mail me at mo@mobileedge.com

"TSA-Approved" is a gimmick. We have many TSA-Approved luggages which has TSA-Key lock, but they cut it open anyway. Maybe these people at airports are uneducated or CANNOT read English! So, don't go spending on this gimmick!
Adrian @ Jul 19th 2008 10:09AM
I don't really see why anyone would spend money on this. It's not the road warriors that create problems at airports. I don't mind pulling out my laptop and taking off my shoes.. I've basically got it down to a science by now. It's the grandma who's flying for the first time in year, or the parents with 4 children who make the line move slow. They're the ones who hold up the lines and make the whole process slower.
careerbags.com @ Jul 28th 2008 12:58AM
TSA approved bags are a great idea for convenience at the airport. However, I wish they would make them a little more stylish!
Nigel Pond @ Aug 13th 2008 3:31PM
TSA agents break TSA approved locks (it's happened to me several times) so why should anyone believe that these "TSA approved" bags will make life any easier -- they will still make you take your laptop out. Just like shoes -- according to the TSA website, there is no requirement to remove your shoes, but they still make you take them off. In short, a waste of money.
David @ Aug 16th 2008 10:32PM
I flew today with my TSA bag and had no problems...I just let them know before I put the bad through and no problem. Not saying my next flight will work, but they all knew about it this morning.
