Well okay, we don't know if it's angry or not, but you can bet your bottom dollar that the 2.0.2 update of Apple's phone OS is out there for your downloading pleasure (via iTunes, specifically). So far, all we know is that this iteration tackles those pesky "bugs," but what those exact bugs are, we couldn't say... nor could Apple. We're grabbing now and will update with any exciting developments.
Update: Well we've got the new firmware up and running, and it's true -- those bugs have been fixed. Which bugs? Well, it's still hard to say, but our voice suddenly sounds deeper, and we've noticed improved grammar during calls.

Any word on whether it fixes the problems the Iphone can have maintaining connections some people have been reporting?
Christian Walters @ Aug 18th 2008 5:23PM
Well I dunno, seeing as it has been out for literally 7 minutes probably means that no one has found out yet.
Juxtah @ Aug 18th 2008 5:28PM
Well companies usually tell people about the stuff they fix, and since I can't seem a list of the fixes I was simply wondering whether anyone had heard whether this was being addressed.
Sam W @ Aug 18th 2008 5:37PM
some but not Apple...
evplasmaman @ Aug 18th 2008 6:07PM
This is because Apple is perfect, there are no bugs, this is just an .. umm ... awesome patch... therefor no bugs fixes to list...
(01) @ Aug 18th 2008 6:13PM
"Bug Fixes" is about as descriptive as most companies get when it comes to updates.
Juxtah @ Aug 18th 2008 6:18PM
Every company I deal with usually releases an extremely long list of fixes or at least gives you a bit of information as to the bugs they fixed.

I think I'm going to be holding off on this for now and keeping my iPhone jailbroken.

I'm (and every one I know with an iPhone) am part of the 2% who's iPhone fumbles the 3g to edge (or edge to 3g) hand off EVERY time.
I used to get 1 bar of 3G or 1 bar of EDGE at home. The mis-handoff that was constantly happening render the phone useless unless I turned of 3G... then it would happily stay at 1 bar EDGE all the time.
I now get 0 bars of edge (though I can still make a call and connect to data very slowly- apparently 0 bars =/= no signal) However, when I go to 3G I get "No Service" and the phone won't even try to swap to the 0 bar EDGE.
Contacts is snappy. No SMS lag. However, that's been my experience after any back-up and restore for a while until the bit-rot starts up again.
Seems like nothing new: move along. I'd skip it (since I had better reception with 2.0.1- I'll be going back to that... right now)
nerdtalker @ Aug 18th 2008 9:00PM
Honestly, where have you been? Apple rarely ever releases detailed changelogs or anything of the sort; just "bug fixes." Honestly.
mymaclife @ Aug 19th 2008 5:44AM
I am a little puzzled as to the constant knocking of the Iphone for what seems to be tolerated on any other phone.
I had several generations of Sony Ericsson phones including K800, 850 and W800 all of which crashed on a regular basis, all of them were replaced at least once if not twice by my provider becuase they had 'known issues'. My partner has Nokia phones including a 6111 and several others which were lacking absic features and had the worst navigation in the world.
I know it's fashionable to be an Apple hater, more than being a fan boy now, but it may help to put any judgement of a product within the context of the rest of the field!
Chris @ Aug 18th 2008 5:20PM
I'm good, thanks. *runs away with Jailbroken iPhone*
Conor Kirkpatrick @ Aug 18th 2008 5:26PM
I'll join you :)
lanejasper69 @ Aug 18th 2008 6:31PM
I'm on your bus too!! screw this, mine working fine, not going through the entire process again, and def. need to wait on Pwnage update anyway.
Ken @ Aug 18th 2008 8:21PM
Well I just upgraded to 2.0.2 firmware. The 3G problems I was having appear to be resolved (i.e. with 5 full bars of signal I couldn't use 3G... wouldn't connect reliably to the internet, VPN, etc). The ultimate test will take most of tomorrow randomly to see if the 3G problems are truly resolved or if the connectivity improvement I am experiencing right now is a fluke.
phinn @ Aug 18th 2008 7:13PM
Yea it's been crap ever since I installed the buggy 2.x series. 1.1.4 was the last time I liked this phone.
Kyle @ Aug 18th 2008 5:22PM
I hope it re-fixes the keyboard lag since it still happens every once in a while in a text message.
phanbouy @ Aug 18th 2008 5:30PM
i don't know what type of laggggggggggggproblemlagproblem yyouuuu mean
phinn @ Aug 18th 2008 7:08PM
For love of god I hope Apple fixed the horrible text messaging lag bug. The iPhone has been garbage ever since 1.1.4 and all it's easy jailbreaking goodness
Liam @ Aug 19th 2008 2:23AM
I get the lag sometimes, however i just hit the home button and hold it in for a few seconds. This exits all background apps on the iphone. go back to Text message or safari and its fine :)
nickels @ Aug 18th 2008 5:22PM
downloading, this best fix slow texts, or i wont be a happy bunny
JDGATX @ Aug 18th 2008 10:52PM
This may just be me, but I've only noticed the input lag when I have three Safari tabs open at the same time and then try to respond to a text. Is anyone else seeing that correlation?
PiperSon @ Aug 18th 2008 5:22PM
Yeah! I noticed something before I read it on Engadget!
Wait, that doesn't make me cool at all, does it?
DudeManDude @ Aug 18th 2008 5:22PM
sweet! I'm going to update right now! Thanks for the heads up Engadget!
I'll report back any changes I readily notice.
Sachin @ Aug 18th 2008 5:47PM

DudeManDude @ Aug 18th 2008 5:55PM

Ross @ Aug 18th 2008 6:44PM

kanoswrx @ Aug 18th 2008 5:25PM

Pat @ Aug 18th 2008 5:34PM
@Daveu If you have ever read engadget, you'd know they were talking about a software fix to improve the signal, you great ignorant pillock
Nomi @ Aug 18th 2008 5:44PM
Davey J...new radio ROMs are issued all the time to improve signal/battery life for winmo phone. Why not iPhone?
vagvoba @ Aug 18th 2008 5:48PM
Just updated my phone!
- Went to a room where previously had only a couple of 3G bars but NO 3G data access whatsoever. (EDGE worked fine.)
- Now in the same room I get 3 bars with 3G and FAST data!!! Finally I can browse there too. :-)
Good start .... will need more testing. Exciting!
grull27 @ Aug 18th 2008 5:52PM
In my house I've always had 5 bars of 3G and EDGE so I don't see a difference. :-/
heshmati4 @ Aug 18th 2008 5:53PM
Back again:
Just had my first two phone call.... No dropped calls (yet)
I went outside and tried GPS:
GPS found me faster than before... 15 seconds where yesterday it took my around 30-40 seconds in the same place...
No scrolling lag in contacts either
More later....
phanbouy @ Aug 18th 2008 6:00PM
Ok, I'm back again again,
I just dropped my first number two. More to come.
heshmati4 @ Aug 18th 2008 6:08PM

grull27 @ Aug 18th 2008 6:17PM
I've always had full bars in my house no matter what. There's even a storm going through right now (I'm in Miami) and still perfect.
