iPhone firmware 2.0.2 is out... and angry

Update: Well we've got the new firmware up and running, and it's true -- those bugs have been fixed. Which bugs? Well, it's still hard to say, but our voice suddenly sounds deeper, and we've noticed improved grammar during calls.
Any word on whether it fixes the problems the Iphone can have maintaining connections some people have been reporting?
Well I dunno, seeing as it has been out for literally 7 minutes probably means that no one has found out yet.
Well companies usually tell people about the stuff they fix, and since I can't seem a list of the fixes I was simply wondering whether anyone had heard whether this was being addressed.

This is because Apple is perfect, there are no bugs, this is just an .. umm ... awesome patch... therefor no bugs fixes to list...
"Bug Fixes" is about as descriptive as most companies get when it comes to updates.
Every company I deal with usually releases an extremely long list of fixes or at least gives you a bit of information as to the bugs they fixed.
I think I'm going to be holding off on this for now and keeping my iPhone jailbroken.

I'm (and every one I know with an iPhone) am part of the 2% who's iPhone fumbles the 3g to edge (or edge to 3g) hand off EVERY time.
I used to get 1 bar of 3G or 1 bar of EDGE at home. The mis-handoff that was constantly happening render the phone useless unless I turned of 3G... then it would happily stay at 1 bar EDGE all the time.
I now get 0 bars of edge (though I can still make a call and connect to data very slowly- apparently 0 bars =/= no signal) However, when I go to 3G I get "No Service" and the phone won't even try to swap to the 0 bar EDGE.
Contacts is snappy. No SMS lag. However, that's been my experience after any back-up and restore for a while until the bit-rot starts up again.
Seems like nothing new: move along. I'd skip it (since I had better reception with 2.0.1- I'll be going back to that... right now)
Honestly, where have you been? Apple rarely ever releases detailed changelogs or anything of the sort; just "bug fixes." Honestly.
I am a little puzzled as to the constant knocking of the Iphone for what seems to be tolerated on any other phone.
I had several generations of Sony Ericsson phones including K800, 850 and W800 all of which crashed on a regular basis, all of them were replaced at least once if not twice by my provider becuase they had 'known issues'. My partner has Nokia phones including a 6111 and several others which were lacking absic features and had the worst navigation in the world.
I know it's fashionable to be an Apple hater, more than being a fan boy now, but it may help to put any judgement of a product within the context of the rest of the field!

Well I just upgraded to 2.0.2 firmware. The 3G problems I was having appear to be resolved (i.e. with 5 full bars of signal I couldn't use 3G... wouldn't connect reliably to the internet, VPN, etc). The ultimate test will take most of tomorrow randomly to see if the 3G problems are truly resolved or if the connectivity improvement I am experiencing right now is a fluke.
Yea it's been crap ever since I installed the buggy 2.x series. 1.1.4 was the last time I liked this phone.

This may just be me, but I've only noticed the input lag when I have three Safari tabs open at the same time and then try to respond to a text. Is anyone else seeing that correlation?

For love of god I hope Apple fixed the horrible text messaging lag bug. The iPhone has been garbage ever since 1.1.4 and all it's easy jailbreaking goodness
I get the lag sometimes, however i just hit the home button and hold it in for a few seconds. This exits all background apps on the iphone. go back to Text message or safari and its fine :)

it has to be some universal fix such as keyboard lag or the still super long back ups...its released for the iPod Touch too and the file is 246.3 MB. i installed the 2.0.1 which claims for better performance and smoothness in general but i still have lag when turning my iPod sideways in safari and the keyboard lag is terrible sometimes as well...
I'm pretty sure this is by design, because of complaints that it was too touchy before. I could be wrong of course.

This is what I noticed so far
* More 3G bars (It seems)
* Snappier transitions
* No More keyboard lag! (2.0.1 didn't fix it)
* Haven't has a crash (yet)
off to test the phone!

Davey J...new radio ROMs are issued all the time to improve signal/battery life for winmo phone. Why not iPhone?
Just updated my phone!
- Went to a room where previously had only a couple of 3G bars but NO 3G data access whatsoever. (EDGE worked fine.)
- Now in the same room I get 3 bars with 3G and FAST data!!! Finally I can browse there too. :-)
Good start .... will need more testing. Exciting!
In my house I've always had 5 bars of 3G and EDGE so I don't see a difference. :-/

Just had my first two phone call.... No dropped calls (yet)
I went outside and tried GPS:
GPS found me faster than before... 15 seconds where yesterday it took my around 30-40 seconds in the same place...
No scrolling lag in contacts either

I've always had full bars in my house no matter what. There's even a storm going through right now (I'm in Miami) and still perfect.

So what did we learn from this:
You getting full bars, but not really, which is more than this morning, you think. You were getting 2-3 this morning, but also getting 3-4. Now you are getting 4-5, but maybe 5, it seems. Please, for the sake of humanity, go back to kindergarten and learn how to count.

keyboard lag, apps i actually paid for crashing, erratic GPS signals, dropping of 3G connections with full bars, and maybe even who knows maybe we'll look into that creeping ram problem

nevermind the bug fixes...how about putting in some features that should have been there from the start. Like email search, cut/paste, mms, the list goes on...
the glitchy keyboard, random crashes, and all around slowness can be repaired later.

It's déjà vu all over again (like 2 years later)...
I do have an iPhone 3G.
I bought it because my Mac loving friend told me it would blow my BlackBerry away and I was impressed with the multimedia features his had. I should have done more homework on the thing. Many people believed that many of its shortcomings would be resolved with 2.0 and if not then...surely in the next update or two. I was suckered into believing that too.
There are some cool things I love about this phone but I find myself wishing I hadn't made the switch.
Don't get me wrong...the iPhone is a great toy but it cannot replace a serious business tool like the BlackBerry. With any luck I will get rid of the iPhone, buy a Bold and an iPod Touch and be happy.
Best case senario (and one I am hoping for) is that Apple will release a real update soon and make me eat my words. Believe me, I really do want to love this phone.

I agree that it is not a business device like the BB. I had a Curve & iPod Touch and gave them both up for the iPhone 3G. The main reason being that I hated carrying 2 devices around all the time. I know the Curve plays music, but it's no comparison for multimedia against the iPhone. The corporate e-mail & IM shortcomings are there in the iPhone, but the consolidation of devices trumped that for me. For some, it's just not an option and they have to go with 2 devices.
Anyone else think "Phonebot" is a kick ass name?

no...its for ppl like me who jailbroke their iPhone or iPod Touch. They want to keep the software on file until the Dev Team pwns it and then we dont have to wait for it to download, we already have it there.

Maybe because it takes forever to install? So if you need your phone while it's installing you're screwed. Therefore, you download first, then install when you know you'll have uninterupted time.

yeah, you are right, i am sure apple leaves has that feature so people like you who hack their iphone dont have to wait for the download. when the updated hack is available, i dont know why i didnt think of that before!

I wish people would stop commenting on the size of the download being related to the number of bug fixes. Each and every firmware update will require you to download the ENTIRE SYSTEM, just just a patch. So each update is going to be ~250mb. Okay? Okay.
actually truth be told mine won't update. Downloaded it fine but it won't install. Gives me some error popup with a (-19) code ?? weirdness.. oh well, typical for my things, like updates, drivers, etc to go as hellish as possible.
ah ha! success lads! updated it has! (Just unplugged my iPhone and plugged her back in).
so far it works, well like it used to! I don't have 3g coverage here, so can't help ya there. text is still laggy, not sure what changed actually.. lol
FWIW... I've been told that a (-19) error may indicate a bad cable/connection
