Rumors of Samsung's BD-Live-ready BD-P2500 Blu-ray player first started cropping up a few months ago, and the strikingly similar BD-P2550 just
slipped out at Best Buy a few days ago, but if you like your Blu-ray news all official like, you'll be glad to know that Samsung has now finally actually talking about the player, and it's set to show it off at the big IFA show later this week. In addition to BD-Live support (which will apparently come in a future update), Samsung also confirms that the player packs the always-desirable Silicon Optix HQV video processing chip, and support for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD in addition to the usual non-HD formats. No firm word on a price just yet, but you can look for the official launch to happen in September. If that Best Buy slip is any indication, however, it seems likely that they could start showing up even sooner than that.

"No firm word on a price just yet"
Never good news to hear that, even if it does comprise 75% of upcoming gadget posts.

Please just be $300 or less. Otherwise, I just can't see how it matters!

yay for bd live! now, instead of merely skipping the trailers at the beginning of the disc, you can go download new trailers to skip!

For the low low price of at least half a grand no doubt. Meanwhile I'm still picking up HD-DVD's to sit along side my DVD's and if the day ever comes where a quality BR player can be had for the same $160 I spend on my HD DVD player then I will pick up one of those as well. Price is going to kill BR in the end. Ironic that the biggest competitor to BR now is standard DVD's.

"Ironic that the biggest competitor to BR now is standard DVD's" haha exactly what I was thinking!
When the last of the stand-alone DVD players in my house crapped out earlier this year, I went to Walmart and for LESS THAN $40 got a standard dvd player (Philips, by coincidence) that upconverts to higher resolutions than my tv is capable of and has hdmi, component video, and digital audio out. Tell me again why I'm supposed to be in a hurry to get blu-ray??

because the BD fanboys need an enemy to replace HD-DVD to keep their egos reinforced

Are you joking? Standard DVD is like crap compared to BD. And the price will go down. It is going down faster then the days when DVD was replacing VHS so stop whining...
Soon studios will drop DVD because of high piracy and it will BD as only optical format.
