Acer Aspire One's 6-cell is a whole lot cheaper bundled
$119 for a battery to beef up a $380 computer? No thanks, Acer, but how about we nab ourselves a $400 Aspire One with the 6-cell already onboard? Yeah, we like the sound of that. Now we've got ASUS, MSI and Acer posing with 6-cells, when are you going to get on board with sexy, Dell?
[Thanks, Jeremy B.]

Finally.
Primero !!!..yeah yeah uuh uh uh
Anyway, this deal is sweet. I have one (3-cell model) and only complaint is the mouse keys, otherwise it's a-ok.
External mouse ftw. I don't know about others, but the only time I use a netbooks internal mouse is in bed and on the metro/railway/train. And that is a time for movies.
Unfortunately, failure in another language is no laughing matter.
Thanks for playing!
An even better deal than the Dell Mini. My girlfriend wants the Pink one though and Acer seems to be the only ones who have it on their site.
Anyone know where I can buy the 6 cell battery?
This laptop rocks. Much better than my eeepc and it has 120GB of HDD space so that makes it cooler than the Dell too.
Crraaaap... I should get this. I should really, really get this.
6 cell battery, big enough screen, price is exactly right, and I can sign up for an amazon prime trial for free next day shipping... but I really wanted an SSD.
Blargh!
Hah, nevermind, isn't shipping for three weeks.
yes, you should. I got one yesterday with without the more powerful battery, it's an excellent netbook.
i'm with you on the SSD

;)
Oh craps.
But... crap! I really thought a 16gb ssd would be the sweet spot.. Hm.
6 cell.. 8gb... screen... price..
Well, it will auto-notify me and I'll decide then.
Buying them seperate is almost as stupid as paying $199 for a game console and $150 for the HDD.
You think so? But if you buy them separate you will have 2 batteries, and 3-cell may be used as support, so you get about 9-10 h of work on batteries.
In my country even 3-cell A110 version (430$) is more expensive than A1 from this news(which is currently not available), and probably when it will finally arrive to my country it will cost about 750 - 800$(yeah, I know funny), so buying 6-cell battery sepparate don't seem to be such a bad idea.
The battery has been one thing that many reviewers complained about the the One.
Now that I finally got one, you know what ? It isn't much different from my EEE's 5200mAh battery's performance.
Will this config be available in white as well?
Awesome, but where is the Linux version in blue with the 6 cell battery? I don't want to pay the MS tax.
Yeah, hard to call it "sexy" when it runs windows...
It's hard to call it sexy since the 6-cell sticks out of the back of the AAO..
See http://unitstep.net/blog/2008/08/26/acer-aspire-one-6-cell-vs-3-cell-battery-comparison/ for pictures.
It's so insane how the EEEs have dropped the ball. I went to BestBuy yesterday and they had an EEE 900 for $450 and beside it an Aspire One for $349.99. Much faster proc., much larger drive, better connectivity, longer battery life, better in every single way. Step yo' game up, Acer!
No one else is offering anything on par with the Aspire One 6-cell, they should be sweeping up the competition.
Yeah, Asus with the EEE line totally pulled a Moto with the RAZR and it's bearing the same fruit, which is to say very little. It's getting beat at its own game. Que lastima.
Will BB be carrying the battery? I paid $250 for my 3 cell 120GB model and BB is sending me a $100 gift card due to a bad add.
Finally has a stock date -sep 26,
Getting my check today, so will be able to place the order tonight (+free shipping,+no sales tax)
I will however check the local BB to see the 3cell/120 (if in stock) and play with it to be sure.
NOW.. anyone heard of a 10" on the way before I hit the buy button?? (also looking for someone in the SF area to do the touchscreen mod for me)
Where are you going to order from? I've been looking for a place to order the 6-cell version but I couldn't find anywhere.
Getting from AMAZON, It will take about 3 weeks but since they now have "set date" rather than est of 2-5 weeks makes it doable
CRAP.. well now I get to look around a little more..this sucks
still probably going to get it since it seems best overall, but I did want to buy it today.. FEH!
Anyone have any information on the battery life of the 6-cell, in comparison to the 3-cell? I have tried looking up and not found an easy answer? Probably me being stupid.. :P
Roughly double the 3 cell battery, maybe? They could have different cells though
http://unitstep.net/blog/2008/08/26/acer-aspire-one-6-cell-vs-3-cell-battery-comparison/
Sounds like roughly 5 hours vs. 2:30 or so with wifi on and screen at half-bright.
Seems like the Aspire One is definitely number One (haha you see what i did there)
Asus have totally gone off the rails, Dell havent delivered and MSI is just...eh.
Acer for the masses, Lenovo S10 for the little bit of class.
Well done Acer, it was about time you offered something worth buying :-P.
How much bigger and heavier is the 6 cell battery compared to the 3 cell?
Any pictures?

Does anyone know how much bigger and heavier the 6 cell is compared to the 3 cell? Any images?
Already out of stock(
and cheap (at the same price) white with 6cells also(
http://unitstep.net/blog/2008/08/26/acer-aspire-one-6-cell-vs-3-cell-battery-comparison/
side by side pictures are here. Anyone know about the weight comparison?
yeah I'm bitter that I bought the 3 cell, 120gb version a week before the price drop and now this. but for those that are waiting 5 weeks for it, i've got mine now so nannynannybooboo.
and I'll prolly get the 6 cell separately for $110....or find a 3rd party....or just use the external ac battery pack i have in the meantime....
Okay, so the Acer is by far the cheapest. And based on the review at:
http://unitstep.net/blog/2008/08/26/acer-aspire-on- e-6-cel l-vs-3-cell-battery-comparison/
I think the 6-cell is definitely the one to get if you might use it to occupy your time on a cross-country flight.
The dings on the Acer at this point seem to be:
- Its an 8.9" screen in a 10" netbook. So its bigger than the Dell for example, which means its got a great keyboard, but the screen isn't any bigger. Why not get an MSI Wind (if the trackpad didn't suck) or a Lenovo S10, which are presumably about the same physical size?
- It doesn't have bluetooth. If you're going to tether it to your cell phone, this might be a deal killer. If you want to use a mouse, you can always go with one of those Logitech's with the nearly invisible "nano" USB receiver.
- The speakers are apparently anemic. Unlike the Dell's for example, which are apparently quite loud. Probably not great for watching a movie with your BFF side-by-side.
- The trackpad buttons are in the wrong place, and are even a little difficult to click. I think you can live with this, just get used to using your forefinger to click them rather than your thumbs.
Anything else wrong with it? I can't remember if the screen was a big glossy/glare-inducing...
Is the deal gone now?
Card reader running OS X? I will be a customer.
anybody got any idea whether the 120GB drive is much different from the 160GB ?
I forget on the Aspire... is the hard drive a standard 2.5, 9.5mm ?
I pre-ordered the Dell yesterday. Sorry, but it's an *Acer*. I've dealt with too many of their inferior desktop and laptop builds in the last five years. Their failure rates are high and service isn't very good in my experience.
Then you should avoid Dell for the same reasons, my friend. Dells are terrible in every possible sense.
Um, no, Dell is not terrible in every sense. I work with Dell systems every day: desktops, laptops, and servers. I'll take them over every other PC manufacturer out there except for Lenovo (and only in regards to their laptops.)
When comparing Aspire One with Dell Mini keep in mind that Aspire One offers the option of
SSD and regular hard drive, whereas Dell only offers its Mini with SSD. If you want the SSD then with Dell you will get the 4 cell battery, whereas Acer only offers 3 cell battery on Aspire One SSD configuration.
This must have been a mistake, it seems like too good of a deal :(
Yeah does anyone know where this preorder went? I can't be able to find it anywhere. I guess I should have ordered it yesterday cause today it seems unavailable. Does anyone know Amazon's preorder rules?
Back in stock again at Amazon!!!!!!!! (well it's got pre-order status again!!!!)
It's back in stock but just says the item has not yet been released. Any idea when we would recieve it if pre-ordered today???
Actually, I just called amazon..they said even though you can pre-order them, they are not in-stock and they have NO ETA. It can even be months they said. Someone tell me where I can get a sapphire blue A150 with xp, even if it's the 3 cell! Where are they in stock in FL?!
The Aspire is a nice-looking machine. . . Almost top of the heap. I like it's size, and weight, but the build seemed a little flimsy when I got to handle one in the BoxStore (tm). But it has a nice feature set and the price is excellent. It's basically what ASUS tried to do with the 700, but here they got it right.
But I went with an eee1000H instead. A bigger screen and a bigger battery, and a very solid-feeling design. You can get them now for $459. I'm pretty much in love with this machine and I find myself using it several times a day, every day in the house and out. Being able to watch two movies back to back on a single charge with power to spare is really nice.
However, when I saw that Aspire were now shipping a version with a 6-cell battery for $419, it made me look again. --A friend has been eying my 1000H, but I told him that while yes, it's a fantastic machine, it was also a touch heavy for its class and that there were cheaper options. It's now a bit of a toss up. The price gap between it and the Aspire is pretty small now, so the question really becomes one of weight, screen-size, and. . , er, bum-size.
I'll leave it up to him. It's a tough choice, but luckily, I no longer have to make it!
