Apple "notebook" event is on, October 14th!

The rumors were true folks. Apple is staging an invitation-only Town Hall event in Cupertino next Tuesday, October 14th at 10AM PDT. It's absolutely safe to say they'll be showing off new laptops... and you know we'll be there live! Will this be an unveiling of a whole new form factor? Will this "Brick" mystery be put to bed? Will they come in rainbow colors? Tune in to find out.

Engadget is covering an Apple Event? Thanks for telling me, for a second there I thought maybe you guys weren't.
Thats not even clever.
@imac matt 09....very nice!
Actually imacmatt09, it's Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp). You probably weren't even born yet.
@ o rly
I figured that it was some other song but more people probably would know the tune from the commercial than the song alone. And yeas that was way before my time.
'It's not like your Surfin Bird record walked away... well, my Allan Sherman record walked away'
So then you weren't around for this either:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_of_the_Hours
Actually, o rly, it's from Ponchinelli's La Gioconda - it's called "The Dance of the Hours".
Definitely before your time ;)
"(read/sing in the tune of the k9 advantix commercial)"
Really? You've never heard of "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh"? Poor Allan Sherman.
And of course I make the fatal mistake of replying before refreshing. Argh.
Regardless of where it came from
it still gave me a good lol
Actually vnangia@uchicago.edu, the tune is from Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours, however, the lyrics/lines that imacmatt09 is "remixing" / referring to (re: advantix commerical) are from "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh."
Yes, I'm nitpicking.
This has been the most pointless set of comments I have ever seen.
@ o rly
Dude, there the same tune.
ok now i have to change my pants
jupiterthunder, dude, they're as in they are. The lyrics are still to "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh."
Yes, even more nitpicking.
Allen, Ponchielli, Crest ... blar. -- I liked his remix, but still the marijuana version comes to mind when I hear the tune.
Then again, I still think "batman smells" when I hear jingle bells.
YES! Can't wait. Its about time!
And I just got my macbook in June.... Should have waited.
@Mehul - Don't worry. I think this update concerns the MacBook Pro's which haven't been updated in god knows how long. Your MacBook should still be up to date come Nov. 14th.
Hehe, I'm feeling very smug right now because I was going to buy my first apple laptop a couple weeks ago but decided to wait :D
Err, actually. The Macbook and the Macbook Pro got their last update simultaneously. So they will probably be updating the both of them. You can check at http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Air
@mehul and konstantin
the macbooks should go aluminium like the pros.
Koo
beautiful
Amazing!!! Pre-order one for me!!!
I hope its not too expensive. and its around 10" inch to 13" inch !!!
Same day as Canadian elections eh?
Yep. For my part, I voted already and got Vaio Z. Got tired of waiting a year and half for Apple to release a new notebook, only to be disappointed by Air. Unveiling new stuff now is like unveiling your election platform a a week before the vote. For people still in the market, I hope it better be worth it.

That link has times for people in other parts of the world.
When the Canadian elections are on, no one outside Canada knows.
When the American ones are on, the whole word must know!
Canada has elections?
Jk...
Wohoooo!!!
SWEEET!
i love that this comment somehow got low ranked
It's gotta be the hair...
Er, what hair?
MacBook Hair
@harley3k
You sir, are a Genius
Huzzah!
Now I just need an excuse to put down the coin on a new compy... these things better make me breakfast.
Well, with the overheating that some Apple laptops have been famous for, it just may!
But actually, if they do have single-piece aluminum construction, it should actually be a lot more effective at dissipating heat away. Heatpipe from the CPU and GPU dies to the body of the laptop? Might be they way to a fanless, and therefore silent, laptop.
I hope they only announce features that should have been available in the first place and introduce nothing new.
Like what?
A DVD burner in the base MacBook model would be nice.
wait... they dont come with dvd burners?
The $1099 one just has a reader. all the other ones have dual-layer DVD burners.
hahah oh pathetic. yet another reason why not to buy a mac.
you're an idiot.
"hahah oh pathetic. yet another reason why not to buy a mac."
hahaha, oh pathetic. You are yet another reason genetic cleansing should be made legal
It IS pathetic that an $1100 computer doesn't have a DVD burner, but you Apple fanboys wouldn't admit it.
""It IS pathetic that an $1100 computer doesn't have a DVD burner, but you Apple fanboys wouldn't admit it.""
There you go, PeterF here dropped the bomb of truth on you fanboys.
Good one sir!
It's pathetic that it doesn't have a freakin' right-click button.
I know better, but I've had customers that never found the shortcut and have been using their Mac without the right-click... so naturally they return to their Windows-based machines.
October 14th couldn't come any sooner. hurry up please, daddy needs a new laptop!
nice! cant wait till the 14th xD
Why? Exciting things could happen on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, especially with the weekend in the middle...
I hope they release that rumored $800 sub-notebook..
I just kinda wish it was sub $600...you know...like netbooks...oh one can dream
Ooo...sub-note would kick ass.
Predictions:
-new aluminum Macbook
-refresh/slightly redesigned MBP (more curvy)
-refresh air, with more ssd storage for less
-maybe sub-note, but doubtful
-extremely unlikely, but still hoped for tablet
-steve jobs in a black quasi-turtleneck
-generous amounts of slightly unnecessary applause
-me not going to my calc class
A sub-notebook would make me switch to apple, finally.
I was holding off purchasing for quite a bit now.
Hopefully they introduce nothing to spectaculair (or just something WAY out of my budget)
because i just bought a macbook. (month ago or something)
AMAZING! I've been waiting since March for this!
do i smell an apple "netbook" ??????????
No, but an Apple netvertible would be nice! It would certainly be great to use osx on a netbook, uhm legally of course.
I am SOOOO Effing happy! They have taken their time! I'm glad I held out, instead of buying one before college!
They better come up with something Awesome!!!!
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:DD:D:D:D:D:D
I did buy a 15" MacBook Pro before college.
Got the $200 student discount plus the free iPod touch, which I was able to eBay for $250.
I figured they would release something new soon, but that is always the case with Apple.
I'm still happy with my purchase, unless they release something really bad-ass :|
Woot... Thats my birthday... Come on Apple, release a tablet!!!
I know, thats like never going to happen, but hey... I can dream...
haha that was my first thought too, great day to have a birthday, huh?
Now if only someone would think of getting me one of these as a birthday gift...
Yes, I am a fanboy and my credit card is next to my computer now!
are you going to leave it there for the next 5 days?
If so, I want your address.

Hello, I am calling from your bank,
Just a few security questions just so that i can check that it is you that i am speaking too...
gotta love fonejacker
woo hooo! time to update my 2 years old MBP
Hi, I'm a Mac fan. I don't even care what the product is, my blind faith says I need it.
@Samboini
Exactly! not...
If you've been following the news, you would know that it's about time that MBP is being refresh, most likely with a new design. So why should I not be excited? I am a Mac fan, and so am I a Window fan. I am basically a technology fan.
I know exactly what the product is, so my blind faith told me that it would be better than my 2 years old MBP.
Nice try, BTW. =]
wonder why people saying "yay" and " i want this one" without even knowing the price or its features
cuz they are called Fanboys.
fan-boy (noun.): an individual willing to defend and applaud anything with an apple missing a bite no matter how ridiculous the case may be. Examples: (1) OMG iPhone 3G, I bow down to you and your crappy service! (2) WooHOO New MacBooks! I have no idea the features, pricing, etc. but I will purchase even in the midst of a recession because Steve Jobs is the Lord Jesus reincarnated!!!!!!! (3) Hello, I'm a Mac.
What's wrong with buying stuff during a recession? We want the recession to stop eventually, don't we? Buy moar stuff!
It wasn't until July that my 4+ year old G4 PowerBook started to grate my nerves with it's slowness. According to MacRumors, the last update to MacBook and MacBook Pro was February. I wanted to get a new MacBook Pro then, but I decided to hold off. So, it's been close to 8 months since I've wanted to upgrade but decided to wait for the next revision. It's been three months that I've been gritting my teeth every time I use my computer (which is all day).
Given that Mac laptops have looked and functioned pretty much the same way (only minor additions like multi-touch) since the G4s, as a buyer, I expect relatively the same feature set, functionality, and aesthetics. Typically, Macs cost about the same after a product upgrade as they did before. So, I expect the price to be roughly the same (assuming they aren't announcing a netbook).
So, when some people say, "I want one," it's just because they want something more modern than what they have, even if it's just a faster processor. It's not necessarily fanboyism or unrealistic expectations.
But often it is.
Recessions are caused when people panic and stop buying stuff. So, to prevent recession, buy stuff, but pay cash.
Ah yes, CraigJ is the smart one. There is this thing where Macs are ridiculously expensive, thus many use credit in order to buy one, thus the reason for the recession comment. Now if you plan on paying cash in full...go right ahead...
I like how that "macs are ridiculously expensive" comment comes right after Engadget posts about a $4400 11.1", 1.4 Ghz notebook from Sony.
I'm sorry, who makes ridiculously expensive notebooks again?
@ Zak
If Apple made the Air with similar configurations "included dual 128GB SSDs, a Blu-ray writer, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a PAIR!! of USB 2.0 ports" it would be the same price if not more!
Yes, buy it using your credit card quick, before the company lowers your credit limit...
non-fan-boy (noun): an individual who often uses the same word or phrase repeatedly, often exhibiting a confidence that they are intelligent or making a point, but is often viewed by others as obviously exhibiting a deeply ingrained jealousy, lack of imagination or insight and an unexpressed fear of inadequacy. Often accompanied by a utter lack of self awareness, and an inexplicable desire for poorly designed devices that gives them pleasure since they are one of the few who knows how to use them.
Similar: school yard bully, presidential candidate, evangelist, etc.
Examples of words often repeated: fanboy, earmark, maverick, sinner, Alaska, etc.
;)
Why don't you people see how close to death Jobs is before getting a stiffie.
Necrophilia, feeeels goooood maaaan.
..Did I go too far?
@Sora
LOL!
...not far enough...
easily this funniest comment I have seen for a while
:]
God damn, as if the glowing logo wasn't enough, now they're mounting spotlights on the outside to further whore attention?
Town Hall meeting?
Is Steve Jobs gonna accuse Bill "Hussein" Gates of being a terrorist.
Town Hall is the name of the building on Apple's campus at which they host little events like this — like when they introduced the glass-and-aluminum iMac.
Sry but I couldn't resist posting this vid.
DISCLAIMER: I mean no offense to anybody! I just thought it was funny. I am not being racist at all. So don't flame me. Just go home and kick your dog, then go get a life. And some humor while your at it......
Hate it when I do that....sry...

Engadget, put an edit button on comments please and thank you.
His name is "That one".
Your Homer avatar is perfect for your comment =D
Sweet, love the picture, so classy, I believe the MBP and MB will be launched on that day :D
This can only be interesting to me if the most unlikely of oxymorons is shown - a reasonably priced apple product.
