Toshiba Portege M750 reminds us of a tablet we used to see now and then

Of all the Toshiba laptops we've seen today, this is certainly one of them. The M750 updates the M700 by changing up the processor (your choice of a 2.6GHz P8400 or 2.4GHz P8600 Intel Core 2 Duo), but besides that we have pretty much the same LED-backlit, touchscreen tablet: 160GB storage, 2GB memory, Intel 4500MHD graphics, Bluetooth and WiFi. Sorry yeah @Daviesifier it IS sinfully ugly .. but Apple's design while good isn't anything stunning .. the Air looks nice but is badly engineered .. the new Macbooks are better engineered but aren't that attractive .. one day they'll get it right. one day ..
Yeah, I must agree, I have the last-gen Macbook, and I was fully prepared to buy the new Macbook, but when it was revealed it just did not have that 'wow' factor that i normally associate with Apple. I'm not a big gamer, so the GPU doesn't really do anything for me. I guess I'll just have to wait untill the next bunch of Macs are released I suppose.
After viewing the video and images of the new MacBooks from Apple, this Toshiba looks like its about 50 years behind in industrial design.
The Toshiba does match up well with any of the Zune models side by side. Perhaps more Zunes will sell if its bundled with this archaic looking product. Call it a 1950's cold war retro look bundle.

Almost had me there Joseph, I was bit confused on why the higher processor number has the lower speed.
P8400 --> 2.26GHz
P8600 --> 2.40GHz
These are terrible machines, I would never recommend a toshiba product to anyone.
I've along with about 200 other people in my program were made to buy laptops through our university, the Toshiba M7 (not 700) was one of the choices, chosen by around 30 of us. In the last 2 years I've had to have the screen replaced, the keyboard replaced, the DVD Drive replaced and the screen lifted twice to clean the dust out from under the cover which gets in through the part lines. My hinge has now become so loose, theres about 2" of play in it and the bezel around the screen is cracking in two places where it interacts with the cradles in the bottom.
I'm not the only one either, the school tech people say they've never seen more issues with laptops than with a the toshibas which led to our university terminating their contract with toshiba.
Never again.

Toshiba has the worst customer service EVER!!! Take a look at the ordeal I had to go through just to get a working laptop from them.

This is so strange, it has a tablet swing in the middle but it also connects on the side? Why are there no pictures of it mid transition to tablet mode?
The tabs on either side have a spring loaded ball that provides tension when the screen is parallel to provide extra support, while still allowing the screen to rotate. I have a fujitsu t4220 tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio screen, so when I first saw this I was glad to see that it was wide screen, but then I realized thats all they really changed besides internals. I would have liked to see a new external design along with the new innards.
Actually, the M750 does have a few important improvements. For the same price as a standard M700, here what the M750 gives you: (1) You can use Windows Vista 64-bit and, if you install that much, you get access all 4GB of RAM. (2) You also get faster RAM (800MHz instead of 667MHz). (3) Your graphics engine gets an upgrade from the Intel GMA X3100 to the 4500MHD (which is twice as fast and also supports full HD (1080p) video natively). (4) You get a gigabit LAN connection, a USB/eSATA combination sleep-and-charge port, and faster Bluetooth. The changes are small, yes, but the performance gain is impressive and it doesn't cost you anything extra :)
