Intel-based MID to make a splash on France's SFR
It looks like France's SFR will be getting some tweaked variant of Aigo's familiar P8860 Intel-based MID... with 3G on-board. The device features an 800 x 480 touchscreen display, an 800MHz Atom CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash memory, Bluetooth, WiFi, a VGA webcam, 3 megapixel camera, and a full slide-out AZERTY keyboard (as well as some odd, circular navigation wheel). Obviously the big bonus here is the 3G connectivity, which sounds like it will be offered at €19.90 (about $26) or €24.90 ($32) per month, depending on plan. By appearances, those plans include unlimited data -- though the machine translated article seems to suggest there could be some capping. The Linux-powered device will sell for €249 / $310 (€349 with a €100 rebate) -- no word on release date.

What?......no WiMAX? Thought these Moorestown-based MIDs were supposed to be able to use WiMAX too.
I think the real question would be: Will it (or any MID for rest of '08) run Android?
I agree..
Add a phone and I'm sold..
I don't really want to carry 4 gadgets in my pockets :\
Uhm I clicked on the wrong Reply button -.-
cant they just add the phone function to this thing?
yes
I'll be waiting on Nvidia's Tegra (if they ever end up releasing it)...

I have to agree. It is such a shame that it doesn't sport a basic phone function ! It could have been a great competitor to the iPhone, now it's just a too big device to carry on a daily basis.
BTW, rumor has it, it's Archos made ...
Looks retro already. How the hell did they manage that?
Berets. Lots of berets.
with a name like 'lowest ranked' how the hell do you manage to ALWAYS be high ranked? and get your comment highlighted...
please explain.
qderfunsb ... Oh, merde! I forgot this aint qwerty, conneries!
this thing's an asshole on an elbow with no wimax
The imagery portrayed by your comment has simultaneously both intrigued and disgusted me.
good
Wait...4GB RAM?? Is that a typo? My badass PC at home only achieves 3.25GB under Vista 32.
I blame your motherboard.
"512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash memory,"

Unfortunately Engadget gets to edit their posts while we can't. The article was originally posted with 4GB of RAM. The least they could do is acknowledge corrections and not make dummies like you get highly ranked.
Wow that's insanely cheap considering an average MID costs double that amount.
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?
No sir, I would not.
What the heck kinda keyboard is that?
you just don't get it, do you scott?
viva la FRANCE! ;P
I hate the damn french.
awww... touche. had some bad cheese the other day?
no actually, France just sucks.
and wtf don't try and claim Cheese as your own, we all know you take it from the Moon.
*512 RAM.. 4gb SSD like the aigo
The article says it's unlimited data but capped "Just in case".
My French skills have shown. (they should, I'm from there...)
Looks pretty nice
Is the Os MAEMO?
No Multi-touch..??!!?!?
BTW, I would prefer a netbook for $400
Yeahh ... not exactly the same size. I'd rather have myself a 17" MacBook Pro than a netbook beacause it's more comfortable.
That thing is huge! It would be almost as convenient as walking my desktop around town...
I'm guessing they licensed the Aigo MID? Looks pretty sweet nonetheless.

These devices run really hot. I would wait for better devices that have better battery life.
I thought it was funny at Fall IDF '08 when Intel GM Chandrasekher put the device
in his coat pocket for a second, quickly removed it and exclaimed: "It's a little hot right now".
Classic moment showing how these Intel devices have a way to go before prime time.
Would it have a command prompt? Hopefully BASH
Ugh. It's an Atom device. The battery life must be short, or very big... ARM is better suited for those devices.
