Keepin' it real fake, part CLXIV: Apple's and iorgane's
After each iPhone KIRF we swear to ourselves, never again. But damn if China's iorgane doesn't ratchet up the absurdity and IP thievery to levels so ballsy, they've sprouted a leaf. As they shamelessly boast at the end of the video posted after the break, "Apple no, this is Orange." Or organe, but that's for Apple's lawyers to sort out.
P.S. The video is a bit slow to load, but it's so worth the wait.
[Thanks, EL]

I'm betting this one can tape videos and has copy/paste though..
Iron Possum @ Oct 24th 2008 10:18AM
"tape videos" ?
It's ok, you can say "record." We've moved on from VHS, no more tapes. I hear they're coming out with this new technology called Blu Ray? Whatever that is...
Flashpoint @ Oct 24th 2008 1:10PM
As an Iphone owner I'm appauled and disgusted at this abomination. It basically appears that they stole the entire iPhone OS and changed the fonts to GB/UNICODE/Big5 and then added that to an underpowered CPU (judging from the crappy speed at which things changed from screen to screen.
Then again, its not hard to see what's happened. iPhones are made in China and they've got the factories and parts to make iclones.
I think the real funny thing is, Chinese people hate buying Chinese made products. They perfer Sony, Apple or Microsoft genuine because they know its higher quality than anything made there. And I've lived in China for over 2 years so I know that's the truth. Just as any Chinese person from mainland PRC which they'd perfer...
Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3? @ Oct 24th 2008 2:37PM
I thought this was just another eye roller, lame ripoff until I saw that sweet video!
hello @ Oct 24th 2008 10:18PM
its just that some chinese ppl think its überkewl to buy foreignmade products, cuz foreign made products are way more expensive. Ppl tend to try to show off their wealth....
also not all chinese products are crap. its just that you (flashpoint) don't know which to choose.
OneLove @ Oct 27th 2008 1:50PM
I'll take one if it has copy and paste. :)
From My Cube @ Oct 24th 2008 7:27AM
its a pretty decent clone....but it still pisses me off how china gives no rights to corporations like Apple or to their own citizens
SewerShark @ Oct 24th 2008 8:15AM
Why would anyone give credits, rights, or pay licenses on a rip-off product?
htd @ Oct 24th 2008 9:30AM
never been to china, right? no right to citizen from a country, how is that even possible?
Parker @ Oct 24th 2008 12:20PM
Since when do countries "give" rights? People are born with them, and all government can do is take them away.
Insert Name @ Oct 24th 2008 7:28AM
Wait a second.... that looks a lot like..... oh no, it's not. Or is it?
Decel @ Oct 24th 2008 7:31AM
Anyone else notice that it's 2 right hands doing the vid? One male one female?
I wonder what the two left ones do meanwhile...
Rakar @ Oct 24th 2008 7:33AM
Play rock, paper, scissors?
ctwi001 @ Oct 26th 2008 11:57PM
Yeah, but the first shot uses "her" left hand; after that she changes to right handed touching.
Kiran @ Oct 24th 2008 7:33AM
Is that 'youku' video a 'youtube' clone as well?
Chris @ Oct 24th 2008 8:04AM
Youku (Simplified Chinese: 优酷 pinyin yóukù, literally means "excellent and cool") is a video sharing site based in People's Republic of China.
Alexa rank 56
Adrian Castro @ Oct 24th 2008 8:20AM
Why does everybody care about clones so much. Get over it? It happens everywhere in almost every product/service branch.
Ethan @ Oct 24th 2008 9:48AM
No chris, I think they're definitely trying to sound like youtube. Excellent and cool were plucked from a phonetical hat. But youtube is a hollow den of brain filth and I don't think you can copyright that.
rock99rock @ Oct 24th 2008 10:22AM
literally means "excellent and cool"
Shoulda called it "BillandTedsTube"
wait that didnt come out right
Tonio @ Oct 24th 2008 7:33AM

Ah, jeez. Organe.
Tom Robertson @ Oct 24th 2008 7:33AM
Urmmm... Why orange?
mark @ Oct 24th 2008 7:58AM
More vitamin C
C for China... get it?
Bjsfreaked @ Oct 24th 2008 9:23AM
maybe it thinks oranges are better than apples?
CraigJ @ Oct 24th 2008 11:02AM
maybe they are going for the obscure Portal tie-in.
joe23521 @ Oct 24th 2008 11:18AM
A better question would be "Why spell orange as organe?"
mirakutea @ Oct 24th 2008 7:34AM
Whats the price? Can apple take these guys out, or can they run free all over china etc..
JJReinem @ Oct 25th 2008 1:22PM
China isn't known for acknowledging international patents or copyrights. And since any legal action would have to be through the Chinese courts, not American ones, Apple really can't do anything to stop clones like this from being produced and sold overseas.
Frun @ Oct 24th 2008 7:34AM

Jon Nelson @ Oct 24th 2008 1:48PM
...That's kind of the point of the article.
Holger @ Oct 24th 2008 7:37AM
haha... I like how it's a woman doing the "touching" and a man holding the phone...
j_g_puff @ Oct 24th 2008 7:37AM
I appreciate the fact that they've gone for a double-whammy, ripping off not only Apple but also Orange (the popular UK network operator), all the while keeping to their fruity theme. They get extra points for that.
mirakutea @ Oct 24th 2008 7:40AM
ahh, I wondered about the mispelling..
Patriks7 @ Oct 24th 2008 7:45AM
I hope you know that Orange is not only an UK operator
j_g_puff @ Oct 24th 2008 9:17AM
It's ok Pat, I was aware they they operated in other countries. I just chucked the parenthesised statement for the benefit of people (read: Yanks) who weren't aware of them. Please accept my revision below:
"...ripping off not only Apple but also Orange (the popular network operator currently operating in Armenia, Austria, Belgium, France, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Republika Srpska, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt , Israel, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Réunion, Senegal, Dominica, Dominican Republic, French Guiana, Martinique, Saint Kitts and Nevis. List correct, according to Wikipedia, at time of writing. Please see orange.com for an up-to-date list), all the while keeping to their fruity..."
I hope this is sufficient.
Ethan @ Oct 24th 2008 9:36AM

They've also got the 'my touch', which is totally not a copy of the iTouch.

Jeff @ Oct 24th 2008 9:08AM
What's an iTouch? Is it a fake iPod Touch? Link? Price? Specs? Pics? Review?
fh @ Oct 24th 2008 7:44AM
If you're not in the market for an Apple product, then you won't have to worry about getting a fake iPhone/iTouch!
ian @ Oct 24th 2008 7:49AM
i love how its two people rather than one person touching the product...
2 right hands anyone?
Ryan @ Oct 24th 2008 7:50AM
there is a lot of people in china can't afford iphone, thats y they make the creepy clone. We can't blame them, all the money apple earned are going to US. The workers in china only get the tiny salaries, they build the iphone but they can't afford it.
mark @ Oct 24th 2008 8:18PM
Sad!
But unfortunately you're right!
Jeff @ Oct 24th 2008 9:11AM
Its true actually, when I was in China, the absolute pinacle of phone bling was the iPhone. When I was in Shanghai, anyone driving a German car (yes ... strangely they have those :P ) was holding an iPhone next to their head.
tino @ Oct 24th 2008 9:47AM
It's 1580 on taobao (chinese version of ebay), so that's like $230. It's not that cheap.
BTW, Chinese spent alot more money on phones than American (mostly due to they don't buy cars.)
There are tons more people using n95 (sold $5000 in China) in any given Chinese city than any US city I have been to.
Wrong @ Oct 24th 2008 1:33PM
Sooooo....because not everyone in the world can buy it they should be able to steal it and make illegitimate bastard children of an iphone? By that logic i should be able to take a BMW, change it MBW and change a few colors...bam I have my own car company, and its fine because I cant afford a BMW.
bemis @ Oct 24th 2008 7:53AM
What's w/ the super long finger nail on the pinky finger of the phone-holding hand?
KmanOz @ Oct 24th 2008 8:06AM
Its what Chinese people like. It's meant to be cool..
