Renegade Roomba trips home alarm, cops underwhelmed upon arrival
Note to Roomba owners -- shut that bad boy off before leaving the house and arming the alarm system. In what we can only imagine was a pretty comical scene, a runaway Roomba in a Denmark home tripped the motion sensors after it acted on its itch to suck up a few pints of dust and debris while its owners were out on the town. Once the alarm was tripped, authorities were automatically phoned in to see what kind of shenanigans were going on. Needless to say, it proved difficult to charge the innocent looking autovac with breaking and entering, but we hear it has been tagged and given a parole officer just in case it tries to cut loose in the future.

Where's Mc Gyver for now?
tom @ Dec 9th 2008 8:28AM
The alarm system itself stupid. I have a cat running around the house. The alarm never goes off because of that.
ben @ Dec 9th 2008 8:32AM
This was actually a really, really big roomba.
From My Cube @ Dec 9th 2008 8:52AM

I will take two and payment upon delievery
brandon @ Dec 9th 2008 8:29AM
Lol
erhan @ Dec 9th 2008 3:22PM
Maybe the Romba was secretly trying to steal stuff when the family is gone.
no ever thinks about that..... :D
Vianon @ Dec 9th 2008 8:32AM
I wouldn't like to be the cop questioning the suspect. He won't get anything out of this tough bastard.
Erb @ Dec 9th 2008 8:36AM
Except maybe dust >:)
Shinigami @ Dec 9th 2008 10:14AM
...but what about debris?
spacegravity4me @ Dec 9th 2008 10:40AM
"Alarm tripping is a new trick for a robot, congratulations."
"I did not trip it!"
n8 @ Dec 9th 2008 8:33AM
It wasn't renegade - it found more dirt than it could handle and it called for back-up!
Kali4 @ Dec 9th 2008 11:36AM
Not more than it could handle, just donut crumbs...
dg @ Dec 9th 2008 8:38AM
innocent-looking.

...but, the Broomba broke into the gun cabinet...

Some says he will only move at certain times of the day.
Some say he eats dust for for fun.
All we know hee called the Roomba stig.
csmitty @ Dec 9th 2008 11:03AM
Its not the stig,
its the stigs electonic cousin. roomba stig.
wako @ Dec 9th 2008 8:47AM
This isnt as innocent as it seems! Its actually Skynet testing out ideas of how to put our emergency systems into disarray! Soon millions of Roombas all over the world wake up and trip our home alarms! While the police are at our house going, "WTF MATES?!" robots will be rampaging through the streets killing all of us!
abhisheksuman @ Dec 9th 2008 9:46AM
Dont blame Skynet. Its Apple! Checkout the name... iROBOT! Do I need to say anything else?
AMiSH PiRATE @ Dec 9th 2008 9:47AM
Go ahead. Keep joking about this. "oh no, it's skynet, ha ha ha to terminator references!" This is a serious issue. This is just a first glimpse at robots testing us. See how we respond. Smash all your roomba's now before they can evolve to something more dangerous.
ClydeSeal @ Dec 9th 2008 11:21AM
Dont worry Will Smith will come to rescue us.
Ian @ Dec 9th 2008 9:37PM
YAY for will smith saving us! but will he be a cyborg or a super hero?

It's always the quiet ones you gotta watch.
dmans218 @ Dec 9th 2008 9:47AM
the retard who setup the alarm should be blamed... motion sensors have a low area where they are blind...about the height of a cat. so the motion sensor was setup wrong, very wrong
Mike @ Dec 9th 2008 10:03AM
It wasn't cleaning. That was its cover. It was testing the sensitivity of the alarm system in order to prepare for the future robot uprising.
eric f. @ Dec 9th 2008 10:23AM
If this happened in NYC, the cops would have shot it.
Jeff @ Dec 9th 2008 10:29AM
Except it wouldn't have happened in NYC, because everybody in NYC that uses an alarm system has heard of a little thing called "pet immune motion detectors".
Is a Roomba a pet? No. But does it weigh less than 40 or 80 pounds? (Depending on the sensitivity you set.) Yes? Then PID's won't get set off.
Even if you haven't heard of PID's, every single alarm system ships with them standard.
They're obviously using some sort of 1970's alarm system technology over there in Denmark.
MarkB @ Dec 9th 2008 11:17AM
Amazing, just plugged in my new Roomba this morning, then I saw this! We have pet safe detectors, but by the sounds of it that won't deter this little bot from having its fun!
Kali4 @ Dec 9th 2008 11:39AM
Decepticons!?!?!?!?!
Mark @ Dec 9th 2008 12:36PM
I have an 80 pound German Shepherd that doesn't set off the motion sensors (yes they are "pet safe"), yet my roomba sets off the alarms system...
RAD Moose @ Dec 9th 2008 12:41PM
Well, that sucks!
Vegetable @ Dec 9th 2008 5:21PM
What if some criminal decides to break into a house and leave a Roomba running while he loots everything out of the place? The cops wouldn't have any idea.
Larry @ Dec 9th 2008 5:25PM
This is why we have to start making people pay $250 for false alarms. 97% of alarm calls are false alarms, so taxpayers are paying salaries, cars, and gas for police officers to chase Roombas around all night instead of murderers and thieves.
Sam @ Dec 9th 2008 6:10PM
In my city the first false alarm is free... accidents happen. If you have a second one within 6 months its $80, if you have a third one within 6 months of the original one its $700. As you can no doubt see the false alarm's only stay on your record for 6 months but they count for medical, fire, and police.
For this reason I put a pet collar on my roomba that disables the motion sensors in the room it is in. It set off the alarm once when I first got it but fortunately I was still at home so was able to turn it off.

i love you Roomba :)
