Looks like iriver finally understood the value of their stuff. I'm writing this as a iriver device owner (2 different players).
3 stars...no thanks
From a single rating. *Very* representative.
the only review you can trust when it has one reviewer is the iPhone.
Wait, I'll go add another 3-star rating. 1 star for the player, 5 stars for the price.
no wonder, you can't even spell people!
Hey Chase, way to take an otherwise entertaining and witty comment from Eggo and completely ruin it via your cunning replies! I'm sure that all of us here greatly appreciate your contributions.
...Right, so it is all good and fun to make direct insults about Indian or Asian people, but all of a sudden, a wordplay indirectly referencing black people is unthinkable.
I will never understand white people.
Indians are asians... jeez be a man
Anyone else notice the lack of comments today?
Family is not more important the tech news! Come back! 90% of my amusement from Engadget comes from the comments :)
It's a early winter heat wave in most of the U.S. today. With temps in the 50s and 60s in the Northern and Eastern parts of the nation, it's a fine day to just sit outside in many places.
I bought the 8Gb iriver Lplayer for $50 from newegg on black friday. The 4GB version is selling for $59 at Fry's right now. I'd rather buy that one than the E100 anyday.
iRiver's iStone Paperweight
Naah, iRiver would never name anithing related with them iXxx.
Oh wait, never mind.
I'm amazed how misinformed people are about this...
First iRiver device (a MP3 CD player named the iMP-100) was released in November 2000
The first Apple iPod was launched in October 2001. *Nearly a WHOLE YEAR later*
And in that year, iRiver held the #1 spot in the global market of media players.
So when people say that iRiver were just a knockoff of the iPod, they couldn't be more wrong. The iRiver brand came before the iPod.
Matt
In essence iRiver is a knockoff of the iPod...
Brand name, no, but current and previous products (after the iPod), yes...
Man, CES 09, already better than E3 09!
@eggothewaffle
It's not that clear what "wordplay" you're getting at. Are you referring to the fact that they had the word black in the description?
Either way, your "joke" (if that's what it is) isn't very funny or tasteful .. and comes off as a baseless accusation of racism by some person who walks around hoping they'll bump into something they can act offended by.
wow iRiver really seems to be pushing the price of this player down just for sales. Is it really that bad that people wont buy it?
"Indian or Asian people...."
Indian people are Asian.
dear everyone. the product was black and it was a PMP. pmple. its really clever and probably will take 4-8 reads for most of you to get it.
that is cheap o_O
Its super-cheap but still not worth it. IMO.
You can get a 16gb usb flash for $60, right? It won't play music but will store a lot of info for you.
As for players, Sandisc Sansa Clip is said to be a good thing, has up to 8gb storage and has great sound quality. And microSDHC slot. But make sure you buy a pair of expensive earbuds to be able to make music sound as good as it should.
None of my Sansa Clips have a microSD slot. What are you talking about?
Ugh, what happened to iriver? Their H-120 and H-320 series was amazing for its time, but everything after that was just a half assed effort. I guess the Clix was alright, but the capacity was too small to be anything serious.
I just bought a used H320 last year over eBay for close to what it sold at retail. It's a brick compared to players these days but no MP3 player at the time offered the same capabilities.
Spend the extra cash and get an iPod instead. It's worth it.
Oh, you know you are going to get downed for that.
I might even get downed for this.
Get a Zune instead.
No wonder they priced it down.. not worth it..get a ipod instead..
why should someone get aN ipod instead? so they can be locked into iTunes? and not have .flac? and not have expandable memory?
this is the Chevy Chase of all PMP
Did a moderator actually delete the "black pmple" joke thereby reverting the replies to root comment status? Wow. Eggo's comment was maybe the 1,285th most offensive thing I've read on this blog. And it was funny. Sigh.
Yep, they did. It would have been nice of them to at least delete the replies. Or edit the offending comment so it's still obvious that there was a comment at all.
Purchased this for my wife from Wal-mart. Not only $59 + free ship, used paypal and got a $20 rebate back = $39 total cost.
I wouldn't have paid $100 for this, but for $39 this is a rocking DAP. UI is just fine, sound quality and OS speed work great.
back up to $69 now
