Eee PC T91 convertible tablet lives (Update: Video!)
It's been expected for months, now Asus has announced its Eee PC T91 convertible tablet ripe for a fresh Windows 7 tossing. The 2-pound (right, two!), 1-inch thick tablet features an 8.9-inch LED backlit touch panel riding atop Intel's Z520 Atom processor. It also features a TV-tuner and built-in GPS. No other details yet but it won't be long.
Update: Added video after the break of this svelte convertible floating in air with its incredibly dreamy UI. It's destined to make all your touchable dreams come true. No, really.

YES!!
make it cheap for a instant win
....
maybe thats asking for to much :(
HAHA! Saweet! I almost pulled the trigger on a UMPC and hesitated because of CES. Wasn't EEE PC supposed to release a 307$ PC? Could this be it?!!!
I'll buy 2!
KAIKAI what a great avatar!
thanks i like as well :D
This plus Windows 7 might just equal WIN
please asus sell this at a loss to get he brand out!!! ill buy one for me and each of my friends.
Ubuntu (NBR) + the GIMP would be awesome on this thing!
They should make a cheap version/option by taking out the gps and tv tuner (and other extras).. add in a long life batter and that'd make a great note taking touchscreen-netbook for students.. and just what i'd been hoping for xD
If this is cheap, I've gotta have one. It would have to be killer for drawing in Photoshop, heaps better then my Wacom pen tablet now. Windows 7 is pretty nice, too.
This pretty much describes my feelings:

This thing looks absolute amazing. I wonder how much you'll have to dish out for this puppy.
I agree it looks great but why don't they use the Tablet version of XP? I'd love to replace my [paper] notebook with something like this.
@hazard:
Windows 7 BETA has unofficially been tested and performed significantly better than XP. Windows 7 will be a netbook's lover.
WINDOWS & WINDOWS & WINDOWS & TABLET TABLET TABLET
sorry for being annoying. this is the first time and eee has actually appealed to me. Include easy navigational abilities for in the car and im happy (for under 500, at least).
ampersands = sevens i was too excited to release shift
/Terminating/ the competition eh? ;)
Absolutely amazing. Can you remove the GPS and TV tuner and save me some bucks?
Agreed. looks like a promising form factor, but i really don't need a gps in my laptop
They are listed as options on the screen, so I would assume so.
Cool! New video added!
I would gladly pay near $800 maybe $1000 for this if it has an active digitizer. There isn't a good mobile solution for students, researchers, engineers, or anyone else who needs to write anything down with diagrams and equations. Most decent tablets on the market are twice the weight and twice the price or just too bulky to carry everywhere.
I think just passive touch would be a small improvement over typical netbook functions. The convertible screen is really rather misleading, also. This really can't provide the functionality one would expect from a tablet. A normal eeepc and a wacom bamboo pad would probably be better than a passive touch screen for writing/drawing.
Awesome! Now all we need is a long battery life and wacom tablet functionality and im soooooooo carrying this thing to school.
Considering Wacom doesn't make a 8.9" digitizer, it's a pretty safe bet that this is passive/ resistive touch.
Read the slide, it's going to be a multi-touch panel.
Yeah just go ahead and crush my dreams why dont ya!
A while back there was something to do with capacitive touchscreens and using a tablet pen to use them, I'l dig up the article when I'm back from school (Taking my eeepc as usual) if this pans out to be cheap in the UK, I'm buying one for school to replace my black eeepc 701!
Except its been reported by Gottabemobile.com, a leading tablet PC site, to be resistive touch, just like I mentioned. Not to mention that Asus is probably referring to their multi-touch touchpad which they've had for a while now in the Eee line.
so let's hope the touchscreen is one with a digitizer so you can write on it with a pen instead of touching it, that would make it way more useful for university and other things
Don't get your hopes up.
But you can use a stylus just fine on a resistive screen, you just have to worry about vectoring :)
but you can't rest your palm on it so its useless for writing
Can't wait! Just waiting for a good afordable netbook with reversible touchscreen!
W00t. Im shoving this in my car dashboard....
Would be perfect for that, wonder if its touch screen or digitizer pen only
Multi-touch kinda gives it away... unless you multi-touch with multi-pens?

Damn thats nice tv tuner and gps , i like where this is going. Just a tablet with gps rocks
at least asus tries to create something, it may not be stylish but they try expand the netbook market and not that macbook crap shown today at macworld, what overblown BS they are becoming, honestly there latest offers have been weak
Been ignoring their mail recently then heh...
Netbook it is
My gut instinct bet says right around $500. Touch is a premium thing after all.
$600 is my bet.
Drop Windows, and I'm in.
Wow, you are SO cool... Just SOOOOO cool, man I wish I was as cool as you. Jeez I always hope I can be the guy that says "drop windows blah blah blah" every time there is a new laptop mentioned but dang it all if you didn't beat me to it... Again, I applaud your coolness.
gee, somebody's having her period. Calm down, patriot....
Oh yeah, these are already very useful machines to bring out now
We use a more expensive Toshiba one at the moment for GIS and mapping data on location.
Base maps can be drawn onto and notes and data translated on site and uploaded.
the size and hopefully price would mean our on site workflows would be a lot better without a worry about the cost.
tv tuner is an awesome idea for a netbook.
looks mighty thin, i like :)
Drooool. I've been planning on getting a netbook to replace my TabletPC that just died. This is probably going to be it.
I just need something small for patient notes.
ur a doctor?
From the name and the avatar I am going to take a big leap and say Chiropractor....
not bad ....... which OS is running on the video ?
ya, it does not look like xp.
I think its a custom interface on xp, like the one hp has. If you watch closely when he uses the window switcher, you can see the xp desktop as one of the windows.
Make is usable with a pen (maybe it is already I don't know) and replace the awful black and white ultra cheap plastic motif for a nice black rubberized exterior and I'm sold completely.
I am sooo with you on the rubberized aspect. IMHO all portable electronics should have this coating as a law! I call it "grip insurance".
Steve who?
.. Asus is the new Black ..
Viddler seems to have died. Any mirrors for the video?
Jizzed in my pants
for some reason i want this and i wanna mod the hell out of it, umpc without the keyboard kinda stuff
Make it less than $500 and I'll bite.
Too bad it'll probably be too expensive for what you get. The whole netbook thing has definitely let me down regarding to prices.
Very nice.
But what odds this comes with a hefty side order of disappointingly high price.
Windows? No thank you, I say.
just install your OS of choice and shut up.
Do not bark before you learning how to install an OS.
thanks for the storybook cam-rip cough
This thing is awesome. I can't even think of what laptops will be like in two years. Simply amazing. And I don't really think I would use the TV tuner that much but it would just be so nice to have at my disposal, not to mention its just cool.
I don't understand the Z520, what advantage is there over the N270?
For all the people saying "windows no thanks, otherwise great". Get real. For all the flaws of Windows, and resource hungry Vista they have the most fully featured and advanced tablet features of any OS out there. Vista and what I can tell from reading about it Win7 really excel there. Indeed Vista probably looses a lot of points with their Tablet features as for 98% of people it just adds unnecessary bloat. Give it 2 or 3 years when touch & tablet are more the norm and people will realise Vista was ahead of the game in some ways. But by then it won't matter as Win7 will provide all Vista did with a more sensible footprint (or at least, let's hope so).
built in GPS, does it actually work like a GPS or some other stupid shit, and wow a built in tv tuner, this could be a upgrade from my 1st gen Eee, not to big on the whoel touch screen thou, but hey if 7 has something incredible to offer, just maybe
All i can say is "FINALLY!"
Touchscreen - Check
2lb - check
GPS!!! - CHECK!!
Now pleaze make it sub $500
Also whats all this Win7 talk? the slide showed "OS: Windows XP"
Sweet... I will absolutely put OSX86 on this puppy in a heartbeat!
(no more windoze for me)
cheers gh
windows 7 would be better on that I guess... its make for mobile tablet.
ubuntu mobile would be even better, its awesome on touchscreen :)
my next computer
what´s with the video btw? it says not available.
anybody has a working link?
bring it in japan! if you can put tv, lots of people will buy it! a standalone small tv is already 400$ here...
I thought everyone is watching TV on their cell in japan already.
what OS was that running the video... like not the xp part, everything else
and won't windows 7 work better than xp on it, why dont they wait it out
or at least include one of those "free upgrade to 7" stickers or something
btw, is vista really that bad for tablets?
i'd really go for this to replace my current notebook if it was sub 700 with good specs
and with the public legal beta realize of windows 7 just around the corner, it just sweetens the deal
Really gonna have to stop myself buying this but I'll be waiting for the Windows 7 era to push on before I go out for a touch-screen laptop. I'd like an ultra-portable for work but I also need one with a better processor since I handle large amounts of data.
Holy poop faces. If it had dual atom CPU, Id crap myselves.
WTF!!! why did asus choose to use a 1.3GHz Z520? thats even slower than my eee 900ha that has a 1.6GHz N270... I hope they upgrade the proccessor with something faster and keep it the same dimensions as the 900a. the Kohjinsha SC3 and SX3 have the exact same specs with the 1.3GHz cpu and GPS and they manage to make it really small... I wonder if Acer and the other netbook are also coming out with tablet netbooks
make a 10 inch version with dual core atom and POSSIBLY the nvidia ion platform and i'll buy it with teh quickness. they're getting closer and closer to making my dream netbook.
LUST !
Well, if there is one thing we know about Asus, it is that they will flood the range. So this is likely the "base" model, and we will see 10 other touchscreen eee's shortly after.
I was just about the throw down for a pair of 1002HA's for my wife and I... now I want to know how much those little machines will cost. I'll probably still for for the 1002HA anyway since it's now and it's affordable to get 2 :) but a 2 lbs tablet would be hella tempting. BlueTooth tether that to any 3G phone and one wouldn't really need a smart phone either.
Gimme!
This, in black, with 2GB RAM, a PCI-Express-Mini slot, and Eeebuntu Netbook Remix, or a fixed Android... I'd be all over that thing.
When is the release date? what is the price!?
(did you say with windows 7!? that'd be a freakin' waste of silicon ... and money)
I really hope it's a DTV tuner inside and not just a soon to be useless analog one!
If it is I'm going to laugh, then cry, then buy, and hack it with a DTV tuner, better antenna, and video in! :D
OMFG, absolute amazing!
May be I have to give up my EEEPC 701 earlier and earlier...
nah, ASUS rocks
In my opinion the big problem remains the short battery autonomy. This new generation netbook definitely has a lot of nice features, but they seem pretty useless to me if I can just use them for 2 hours or so when I'm outside before the system shuts down. Give me a 6-cell battery (and a little more decent CPU, N270 just like the others would be fine), and I'm in, regardless of its price and thickness (well...!)
its $499 in the us , More in the uk :(
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TZU590Eni0w&feature=channel
at the end she says the price
Everyone claiming it has a TV Tuner need to watch the video again, it has a FM Tuner. An FM Tuner allow you to stream music to a radio, kind of like a very short range radio station. Typical use case would be that you'd have it in your car and could stream music to your car radio.
Oops, I'm wrong, please low rank my above comment. That said, I know I've read in previous articles that it had FM Tuner...sigh
waaaahhhh this is what ive been waiting for all along. thank jebus i didn't just buy the 901 like i was going to.
i
^i lessthan3 asus
