Victorinox -- makers of the original Swiss Army knife -- made its first trek to CES with this, its new Presentation Pro. Tucked away with insane precision are a removable 32GB USB drive with fingerprint authentication, laser pointer, and Bluetooth remote control for your Windows-only PC or laptop presentations. Yep, key ring and scissors too. It even features a blade to fight off your enemies and a file to scrape away any fingerprints after the deed is done. We went hands on with the device and were truly impressed with the build quality. Here's the rub: it'll cost you $330 when it ships in May. Did we say it had a laser?

Totally..... worth it......... =P
Saad @ Jan 10th 2009 5:58PM
Good luck getting it on a plane for that business trip.
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Jan 9th 2009 10:01AM
Totally worthless. You can't even use it on an airplane.
John @ Jan 9th 2009 10:19AM
@Saad
Ha! I read this and thought the same thing.
Nacho PATA @ Jan 9th 2009 10:47AM
If only they would come out with a Swiss Army knife that doesn't have a knife ... or a box cutter.
stefan @ Jan 9th 2009 11:22AM
or you _could_ just detach the stick during a flight and throw the knive-shell into your suitcase.
I miss the old times... this one time I took a plane from Geneva to London with two regular sized army knives - in my jackets pocket. I even took them out and put them on the tray and nobody said a word.
Wwhat @ Jan 9th 2009 12:22PM
You can bring knives with a blade shorter than 4" on planes, officially, yes that means in the US and right now.
Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3? @ Jan 9th 2009 4:56PM
The memory stick is removable. You take it out, and leave the knife part in your check in luggage. Then just take the memory part with you. I've always had a Swiss Army Knife on my keychain, then when USB sticks came out I was rather annoyed at having another thing on my keychain. I found these a few years ago and have been with them ever since. Started out with a 128MB one, they are keeping up with the pace of new technology as well!

and no longer made is the Sapphire, fantastic....
Cassini @ Jan 9th 2009 8:02PM
Neat gadget, but it ain't worth $330.
gary @ Jan 9th 2009 7:49AM
Am I missing something here?
Its only 32mb....how are they charging $330 for that?!
Alexandre Emond @ Jan 9th 2009 8:14AM
"up to 32GB of storage (from 8GB upwards)"

feraligatr8 @ Jan 10th 2009 6:42AM
you need glasses 32Giga Bytes GB! not mega bytes, Einstein
Sahil @ Jan 9th 2009 7:50AM
32 MB ??!?! FFS its 2009 already!
Rob @ Jan 9th 2009 7:51AM
"32MB USB drive"??? is that a typo perhaps?
lpppppl @ Jan 9th 2009 7:54AM
no? 32MB probably fits inside the inserted part of the USB. the rest of the stick can be the board for bluetooth...
Arkenklo @ Jan 9th 2009 8:02AM
So would 8 Gb.
Aaron @ Jan 9th 2009 7:53AM
Oh, this product makes PERFECT sense. It's ideal for the mobile business traveler that needs to keep his sales presentation on the 32GB (probably a typo) USB drive, and keep it safe with fingerprint authentication...
EXCEPT that he can't take it through airport security!!!
stefan @ Jan 9th 2009 11:25AM
yes, and 32GB worth of slides are plenty to bore any customer to death.
va jj @ Jan 9th 2009 12:34PM
this product ist he perfect excuse if you didnt finish your presentation and tell your boss the airport confiscated your report lol
Siraj @ Jan 9th 2009 7:57AM
All it needs now is a pico projector!!
meist3r @ Jan 9th 2009 7:57AM
It's $330 and only 32MB because they had to fit the fingerprint sensor in there. A regular USB pocket knife with 2GB is ~$60. And yes build quality IS excellent. That's what they're known for. I wish they'd finally build the big version with the SSD drive :D
Kabadisha @ Jan 9th 2009 11:27AM
Um, $60 is a bit on the high side... Here in the UK you can pick up an 8Gb stick for ~£10 in your local supermarket...
Matt @ Jan 9th 2009 3:42PM
He means with a knife.
breaklaw @ Jan 9th 2009 8:00AM
I'm sure it must be 32GB. I can't be 32 Megabytes. That would be stupid.
jason @ Jan 9th 2009 12:33PM
How many megabytes CAN you be?
Nic @ Jan 9th 2009 8:03AM
I see chip components in the handle area, so I would suspect it is 32GB. I assume they aren't stupid.
ben @ Jan 9th 2009 8:04AM
Ah yes...the original gadget
Andy @ Jan 9th 2009 8:12AM
Unfortunately, I can see it being only 32MB as that would fit a basic PowerPoint presentation or two that have a few graphics. Of course I've made PowerPoint’s that include video that would definitely leave me screwed if this is all I have to transport them on.
Mili @ Jan 9th 2009 8:12AM
The current model on sale is 2GB: http://www.victorinox.ch/index.cfm?site=victorinox.ch&page=500&lang=E
So I guess the one that will be released later this year for $300+ would feature 32GB. Why else would it need biometric protection?
The laser's cool :)
Alexandre Emond @ Jan 9th 2009 8:13AM
"up to 32GB of storage (from 8GB upwards)"
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2009/01/victorinox_presentation_pro_has_travel_version_too.html
süli @ Jan 9th 2009 8:15AM
Well, maybe it's really just 32MB, because of the fingerprint scanner... which is quite impressive by the way.
Anyway, it's for presentations, so as far as I'm concerned I never had a powerpoint file which exceeded 32 MB.
I'd say well done! For the ones who need more storage there are victorinox knifes with sticks having several GBs... but without the scanner.
Greetz from Switzerland :D
Tom @ Jan 9th 2009 8:15AM
http://www.victorinox.ch/index.cfm?site=victorinox.ch&page=574&lang=E
They already do a 16GB version thats pretty much the same, so its gotta be 32GB...
Blueace @ Jan 9th 2009 8:19AM
Why would you want a professional oriented USB key that you're not allowed to take on a plane?
h0rk_ @ Jan 9th 2009 8:23AM
who needs a plane when you have a laser?
andyss85 @ Jan 9th 2009 9:13AM
The electronic part is removable from the knife part so you can carry the USB key with you on the plane and make last minute ajustments on your laptop and put the pocket knife part in a checked bag.
KilgoreTrout @ Jan 9th 2009 9:26AM
Belive it or not but the swiss are not that stupid: if you would bother to read the link that TOM kindly provided you will see that Victorinox makes also a flight friendly version without the blades.
Still if they really think that people will pay 330 USD for that thing makes me think that at least some swiss (those working at Victorinox for exemple) are not all that smart either.
Knives_Out @ Jan 9th 2009 8:26AM
the swiss army has all of the coolest gadgets ..
strider_mt2k @ Jan 9th 2009 8:32AM
And it has bud snips too.
luke @ Jan 9th 2009 12:33PM
lol. thats the primary use of my swiss blades...
seriously though, id rather pay 150$ and buy a regular usb stick, a normal swiss blade, a laser pointer, and a camo-tie to make up for the lost 'ruggeness" of this dongle
Hotrod @ Jan 9th 2009 12:36PM
LMAO! Good catch sir.
ZIG @ Jan 9th 2009 8:35AM
make that a green laser and make the memory stick thinner and i'm sold
Zeno Davatz @ Jan 9th 2009 8:35AM
That should be 32GB. A very stupid Typo.
;)
Best
Zeno
dv @ Jan 9th 2009 8:48AM
Why is the USB unit not detachable? This way it would be upgradable to whatever the current available capacity... More than that, with a well-designed attachment joint, there could be a range fo own Victorinox and/or third-party accessotries which, given the ingenuety of manking, can be very useful, interesting AND good business.
john @ Jan 9th 2009 8:52AM
Where's the mounting lug, so that you can attach it to a shark?
bcomment @ Jan 9th 2009 8:57AM
As some friends have also mentioned.Due to the increasing flight security in the world, Victorinox will not be around in the next decade for sure.Whatever they try (embedding hi-tech into their nice gadgets) will not help them getting rid of the airport security issues (a soon as they do not get rid of the knife, which will be ofcourse meaningless then). Soon they are not gonne be allowed even in the luggages I am sure (like lighters nowadays). So unfortunately even if I personally like them, Vixtorinox will not be around in the next decade. This is a fact.
Kamokazi @ Jan 9th 2009 9:16AM
You're clueless. This is a fact.
Victorionox makes a wide range of items, not just the knives. Their luggage is some of the best. And believe it or not, pocket knives are actually useful when not carried through airport security...you know, for like, when you don't need to get on an airplane to to what you have to do that day.
kt @ Jan 9th 2009 10:38AM
@kamokazi: Word.
bcomment, are you really that much of a city-boy pansy or did you write this in your sleep? Seriously, come on. Some of us who happen to like technology also have lives, lives in which there are things which need cutting. Victorinox knives have an incredible reputation, and their blades are very high quality. They aren't going anywhere. And in your second comment you continue to make a ridiculous assumption: you fly every day. When I fly, once in a while, I pull out my knife and drop it in a check-in bag. When I get to my destination, I pull it out. As you can tell, it gets really complicated. Come on dude. Stop being a narrow minded idiot. It suits you not at all.
Steve @ Jan 9th 2009 11:52AM
Don't be an idiot. You know how many people go years without going on a plane?
trappy @ Jan 9th 2009 9:05AM
Just put the knife AND toothpaste in your bag. The airport trolls^W^W^W^W securiy personnel will take the toothpaste and forget about the victorinox. Happened to me 2 weeks ago.
Oh, and you can still put it in your normal luggage.
