TriSpecs' Bluetooth sunglasses let you ignore the outside world in style
Since Oakley can't be the only company controlling the fashionable Bluetooth sunglasses market, TriSpecs has unveiled its own technetronic eyewear compatible with Bluetooth-equipped phones and PMPs. The eponymous shades sport two uni-directional mics, one touch dialing, and retractable stereo earbuds that hang at the tip of the temples when not in use. They're expected to hit retail sometime this month for just under $200 and come in black, white, and metallic options. Attractive model companion is, as always, not included.

I'm gonna cut joo, mang.
Not as nice as the Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses that have been specially designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. At the first hint of trouble, they turn totally black and thus prevent you from seeing anything that might alarm you.
Like a speeding train that they could have otherwise moved out of the way of had they not been wearing the glasses.
I like how her hair is positioned so you can't see the earbud cables. Or his earbud cables (since her head's in the way). Nice false-marketing.
it isn't false advertising, don't be an idiot. they are showing the ear buds like that so you understand how everything is setup.
How does this connect to an iPod?
There doesn't seem to be any info about what kind of dongle it uses on the website.
Probably any ipod bluetooth adapter. There are plenty of them around.
I see what you did there.
"compatible with Bluetooth-equipped phones and PMPs"
Obviously it doesn't connect to an iPod because the ipod doesn't have bluetooth, and the Touch and iPhone don't have stereo bluetooth headset support. You'd have to buy an adapter from someplace else so that you iPhone, which has Blutooth capabilities, could acually use this Bluetooth function..ironic isn't it?
Not really related to the article, but does the iPhone support AD2P yet? I remember it was missing it when it launched (silly feature to not have in a phone primarily used for music) but I never heard it they patched it or not.
No. They haven't.
Because they're Apple, and if they don't want to put it in, nobody needs it.
Yes because even prepaid phones have A2DP, there is absolutely no reason to include it on as i quote from them "The best phone in teh world"
Nope. No MMS support either (and before anybody says it, email is NOT the same thing). Apple just leaves off obviously high-demand features for mysterious reasons. Nobody understands it.
NOPE! No A2DP at all....unless a BT adapter is added to the iPhone, then yet another device synced to it, Way too much for little pay off IMHO...no thanks!
This seems a bit Hokie to me, a lot of BS just to get BT to your ear! Apple, REALLY should have supported A2DP from day 1, most other "smartphones" already had this feature...even a Palm Centro does it very well with a 20.00 add-on (Softick Audio Gateway) , which isn't even available (with our without and add-on) for the iPhone. Bad Apples!!!!
So you can go from walking around in public like an indigenous pigeon with a Bluetooth communicator on your ear, or you can walk around looking like a pretentious douchebag with these sunglasses on, making it even harder to tell if you're really just talking to yourself.
Sweet!
If you have long hair and use a bluetooth headset it throws people off even more. Just ask all the girls who I thought were talking to me.
I think you are missing the point, these shades are primarily integrated with mp3s, phone connectivity is there, but it is not its selling, or at least marketing point (hence the lack of a "cell phone" in their ad).
@ Tohe
Really now, if anyone uses these for anything but cellphone communications, I think they are missing the real point.
"hey dude, check out these wicked sunglass headphones I got! The sound quality on these things is amazing!"
I thought the Oakley MP3 shades were dumb, and I think this is equally as pointless.
Just my overstated opinion, though...
Lots of stuff out there make people look like a douchebags, it is up to them to give up their coin so they can look the part : )
Point eloquently spoken and well-recieved. Have an up-rank for that one, on me. :)
Why is she holding a first generation iPod Touch ?
Because anything with an iPod in it, sells regardless of its relevance in the product timeline. It's just as equally ridiculous as a product that's marketed on the packaging as "for iPods", when all it is, is a 3.5mm cord hookup that can be used with any audio device that matches the same requirements.
Such is life in today's iConsumerist society...
Same reason he's holding a last generation iPod Nano.
He's holding a Nano because it is thin enough for him to threaten to cut her throat with. Not because it works well (or at all) with the product they're advertising.
Kevin Sorbo!
They don't even look good on specially selected models, enough said.
At least not on the guy, for the the girl it's doable.
I agree the girl is doable, despite the glasses..
so cool
What they need to do now is put a one line OLED display on the lenses. Use it for track info, caller ID, SMS, whatever.
the guy in the pic looks very creepy, i think its his smile =/
I bet he's thinking...
"Oooh, if only they required my hand to be a few inches lower in this shot..."
"Maybe she'll "sync" with me after we're done here? My killer iShades and dashing product placement skills are sure to win over the ladies -- I just know it!"
He's also thinking...
"I hope she doesn't laugh at my nano!"
haha 'sync with me' LOL
@ Aaron, I think what you meant was "synchronized breathing" ........which I'm all in for ......
You can see the woman's eyes under the sunglasses -- they are wide and crazy looking. Maybe he just goosed her with his nano.
I would do her.
If you ask me twice, I'll tell you they both look related (w/the exception of one being a male and female :-) ). Although, I'd prefer that be me behind her (the Engadget reader brother). I don't care if she is holding a toy Lamborghini so long as I'm behind holding a similar thing .... if you know what I mean...
Unless the ear buds are detachable, these sunglasses are soooooo stupid. What if you want to listen wirelessly inside? Or at night? Wearing sunglasses with normal BT buds would have the same effect as these, and you wouldn't have the built-in VCR syndrome.
Those have got to be the ugliest shades I've seen. What's the deal with having 1 inch wide glasses arms? At least these things have a reason for it, gotta stick the battery somewhere, but every other piece of junk you see on models heads.
It's the "I'm so rich I can afford more designer plastic than you" syndrome.
That and they are trying to hide behind something. The sad thing is the plastic is as big as their brains, so they are tricked into feeling concealed.
Are they polarized?
So when do they get sued for the false advertising? How many iDiots are going to rush out and buy these to use with their Nanos which don't have bluetooth? Man, if I was a lawyer, I'd be licking my lips and thinking "class action"...
I guess it's rather clear you aren't a lawyer nor about to become a lawyer either.
I can say that so frankly because it's more a compliment than anything else really :)
Oh my that's clever. You've taken the word "idiot" and capitalized the second letter, turning it into a jest at consumers that choose to purchase and Apple product.
Good show. I can only hope to one day be as clever as you. [/sarcasm]
Keep studying, and maybe one day you will. Oh, and if you intended sarcasm, you really need to OPEN the sarcasm tag before you close it, otherwise it's just a stupid comment.
I don't know about you guys, but I miss the days where womens and mens sunglasses didn't look the same.
Actually, I like them. They are big and look good. I don't take off my sunglasses even in winter, so with those I wouldn't need to carry the headphones and bluetooth as well. If they sound good, I will buy.
Wow!!
You engadgeters are not on point any more.
That picture belongs in the photoshop disaster website.
And man is that iTouch scratched to shit or what?
But... are they polarized?
