Unreal Tournament 3 deathmatches: now with 4-player Wiimote support
If you thought that Wiimote hack for Left 4 Dead was hot stuff (and you did, it's pointless to deny it), then you'll be just as stoked -- if not more so -- for this one. From the same Ryan Tani comes this, a setup that enables four gamers to gather 'round an Unreal Tournament 3 deathmatch and exchange blows via Wiimotes. A guide on how to pull this off yourself is forthcoming, but 'til then, we'd invite you to check out a demonstration vid of the author (and three lucky pals) enjoying the spoils of his labor after the break.

I'm building me a set!
Is that Rex from Rex-kwon-do in that video?
"Ownage! You think anybody thinks I'm a failure because I go home to Starla at night?"
Who cares? Seriously, the Wii Remote is cool but is completely worthless in setups like this.
Am I the only one that couldn't care less about this stuff?
Yes, yes you are...
You're right.
It's cool but impractical and not at all precise when it comes to FPS games.
Well over a year ago someone modded these things to work on PC titles such as HL2, but it was more of an exercise in frustration if you ask me.
No way can a fast-paced shooter like UT be appreciated or mastered with a Wiimote.
Nice, but no replacement for a mouse/kb combo.
I'm Unreal Torn-Lament right now :( . Now where's Quake 3?
I am sure everyones hit percentage is around 1%
Argh, I have no sound right now. This isn't the 360 version, this is for PC, right?
Coincidentally I've been checking out all the split screen hacks for PC games (I had just reinstalled UT3 last week as I finally beat GOW and was looking for something else to do), and I'm kinda stoked to get another 360 controller and start hacking UT3 and L4D.
errrr.... maybe I'll get me some Wiimotes? ;)
I am way better with Wii remotes than analog sticks, which is why I don't really play FPSs because there are no good ones on Wii (save Metroid and COD5).
I really should consider doing this.
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 is a lot of fun online
That's not really true. In the Wii FPS games I played they (especially metroid) had a really huge auto-aim feature. So you may be worst at FPS games on PS3 or XB360, but the wiimote isn't making you better. The games them self have just simplified the controls.
The Conduit... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conduit
Try playing COD:WaW . Sure it's not as steady as a mouse, but it's close, at least once you get used to it, and you don't need the autoaim feature, which is really made more for xbox 360 or ps3 controllers used for FPSs than Wiimote based FPSs. And of course, there's the Conduit, which looks really promising.
The aiming works well enough. We all managed to kill each other a lot (with rocket launchers that's not much of a problem), but consider this: the three people I was playing with were playing UT3 for the first time. And they still managed to have a lot of fun with it. Try it out, I'm sure you won't be disappointed :)
Cool.
The guide must be pretty simple;
-instal UT3 splitscreen mod (link to some UT3 modders forum)
-install GlovePIE (link to GlovePIE)
-use GlovePIE script I wrote.
Dude writes a glovePIE script and gets on the egadget frontpage. Big whoop. Now do I get to be on there for the 3dsmax script I wrote? I hacked my 3dsmax to accept wiimote input, donchuknow?!?! And I have to say, that was a really bad idea.
Yup, quite simple when you've figured everything out. Posted the guide if you want to check it out. The only thing really special about this hack is Racer_S 's (http://tocaedit.com) xbox 360 controller emulator, that allows any Dinput controller to be recognized as an Xinput controller. This is useful for games like Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, GTA4, and of course, UT3, that only work with Xinput controllers.
And to the other commenters, yes, KB+M is the best control system. Unfortunately, you can't play splitscreen deathmatch with 4 KB+M sets connected to one PC. So till then, Wiimotes are the way to go (I have a Classic Controller which I tried, and it's not as good as a wiimote).
UT3 has some easy aiming. I usually run up to the face, dodge there shots and blow them away.
I still can't believe the PS3 version doesn't have a split screen view and these guys are playing with Wii remotes! Grr.
Well, you'll always have MGS4 and Tekken 6 soon, so I'll always be envious of you PS3 owners, too ;)
@red: Like really. Tekken 6, ok, but MGS4 is not that of a big thing
Really pal, you ain't missing that much
