Verizon touts 1 million BlackBerry Storms sold to date
Well, it looks like the BlackBerry faithful have come out in full force to snag "Verizon's best-selling device," after all. Despite RIM's nightmarish "new reality," of half-baked firmware and broken dreams, Verizon has made it known that the latest 'Berry has grown to a full 1 million units sold between the November 21st launch and the end of January. Apparently the ever-leaking updates have kept enough people satisfied with the keyboardless device to reach this milestone, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed that the updates don't stop flowing and this powerhouse becomes the titan it has the potential to become.

And how many returned?
That didn't take long...
Half...I havent spoken to a single person who hasnt returned their storm at least once. So verizon finally gets a phone that people want. Its either the storm or the razr... what would you choose.
My coworker is considering returning his. I think he's going to wait until the next OS update to see if it fixes some of the issues he's having.
I know 6 people who picked up the Storm, and 5 of them have returned it. I wonder if BB's numbers include all the devices that were sold and then returned. I doubt that there are a Million people still using the Storm...
Impressive they can release that! It's not even the end of January yet! :P
That was my first impression. Lol Getting ahead of themselves?
Lets see ,storm with its bb loyalists fanbase sold 1 million in 70 days,it took iphone 3g 72 hours to sell 1 million in usa alone.(4 MONTHS PRIOR TO 112108) Wonder which one got blown outta the water?!?!Storm recorded one of the highest 30 day return/customer unsatisfaction rates in recent smartphone surveys.Iphone one of highest customer satisfaction rates of all, not only phones but apple devices. Sad part is this number from 112108-012109 iphone 3g has still outsold storm since its release. It is clear, the american electronics consumer has spoken. Not only that ,but has showed on what device they chose to lay trust on n drop their hard earned $200.INSANE.,OK BB FANBOIS,U CAN NOW BRING ON THE HATE MAIL.
@ Shugg
The only hate mail in this thread until now has been yours.
And its content is silly and obvious: everybody knows that kid's toys always sold more units than instruments for professionals and will keep on doing so, no matter how good the instuments or how silly the toys.
Wow, I'm impressed -- that's better than I ever expected it to do so quickly, especially after the negative PR on the early software. It's certainly enough interest to sustain strong sales and further development of the touchscreen BB platform.
Supposedly would have sold 1.2 million if RIM could have met the demand.
Maybe they could have if they had better returned -> refurbished turnaround time.
Just think about all the returned devices that are probably sitting, waiting to be certified refurbished and firmware flashed, in RIM warehouses somewhere.
I already did think about it: about .9 million.
Good for them, As much as i like the iPhone (if it didnt drop calls so much i would have kept my 3G) its good to see some compition, as not much else compares... although i still wouldnt buy this.
in fact, i just want an iPhone that doesnt drop calls, and doesnt cost so much each month...
yawn....
Stand by for the boilerplate calls of them all being returned or that RIM is lying.
And the very next post is....
I'm sleepy...
Does this number include the 999,999 that were returned or not?
Seriously does anyone really like their storm? I've tested out the storm for work and we just passed on it. HTC Touch Pro ended up being a better phone.
Also I really cant agree with the statement that the Storm is competition for the iPhone. Now if you were to mention the Palm Pre, thats real competition.
a yet to be released device is competition?
I love my Storm!
I also love my Storm. My iPhone friends are all switching.
How is the HTC Touch Pro? I heard it was a lot slower than it's AT&T Conterpoint Fuze). I am shopping and considering the Omnia, HTC Touch Pro, or Storm. I am interested to hear real world experience with the Touch Pro.
I have had the storm since launch - with every leaked fw update i enjoy it more and more.
I also have a Touch Pro - I honestly prefer the bbstorm over the touch pro.
*note* i went from a winmo ppc to bb
Running HTC Touch Pro with Juggalo's ROM.
Everything else pales in comparison (with the exception of the Touch HD).
Juggalo's ROM has kicked the Touch Pro's performance and usability up a few more notches than out of the box experience allows.
The power, the speed, the UI, the tens of thousands of WinMo apps, it's all there, plus you get a 640x480 res screen that makes most other smartphone screens look dated by comparison and the best hardware keyboard for a phone, bar none.
love my storm
I got one for a co-worker . . . Showed him the bad reviews and what not . . . He wanted it anyway . . . This is his fourth BB . . . He really loves it . . . He hated it for two days, but he told me that he is happy he didn't listen to me . . . Go figure.
I think they should be required to say how many of those sales had a retention of at least a month (or whatever the last day for a return is). For any product. I am not saying they didn't sell, and keep sold, 1 million. I just think for every company when they say stuff like this, it should be a requirement that they give out all the info. Otherwise it seems like its giving false information to possible investors and customers.
Once again, not saying they did this here, just bringing it up since people are making the joke, but it should be a legitimate question.
I'm not gonna act like a fan boy, nor a hater, and all i have to say is......
Good for them =)
and amazingly, every single one (without exception) sucked.
you're an idiot
@russap5
You forgot "super-".
My company's on Sprint. If Sprint carried these things, I'd have one.
Lucky for you, the Pre is coming.
This is not great , the real number will be when they release no of returns.
Does 9E5 count as "in the single digits?"
If returns are actually in the single digits (percent wise I'm sure...) then good for them. That means RIM sold even more when including those sold up here in Canada and where ever else they launched. Considering that they didnt provide much to us and that every single sales rep you talk to about the storm was a complete jackass... maybe they sold another 1000.
thats not real number , we need Verizon to give the number for returns.
Verizon makes publicly available their "churn" numbers and percentages, which reflect
Great, me and 999,999 others are now waiting for some new firmware!
Put .90 on yours it's UNBELIEVABLE
Now had this blackberry had wi-fi that number would have been a 3million...
I have a BlackBerry Storm and I've only had a good time with it.
Huge step up from my SLVR of 2 years...
I honestly dont like this phone.
I honestly don't like alot of phones, so what's your point?
The point is that we wanted to like this phone, unlike the iPhone 2.0 firmware (which also sucked). The Storm barely answers calls (4.7.0.86). Try using one as your main business phone for 3 weeks. There's nothing better than missing some important IT support calls or emails because the damned phone locked up in your pocket. It really is a productivity killer. We're working through negotiating with our Verizon company sales rep to swap out all the Storms we purchased for Curves.
Truly a pity.
I've had my Storm for ~3 weeks, no plans of returning it, it works just fine
E-mail, sync, wireless internet and even calling work just fine, it's not RIM's fault some people expect too much from the hardware, it's not meant to replace a laptop, it's a phone and then some.
did they also announce 1 million disappointed customers?
I don't like this "new reality". What it has don for me is to not get a phone till it's at least 6 mo on the market. I got HTC touch a week after release. I'm still waiting for some of the features listed on the box to be activated. The GPS started working 8 months later with a ROM update.I no longer care what the phone "can" do, I go by what it does now.
Unrelated to this post, I just went to post on gizmodo when I found that I have been banned from posting there.
It turns out that I was banned for writing "although you prank better, engadget writes better. I think they win", after watching them knock on the engadget trailer at CES and hid under it. Just a funny thought
