World gets updated Samsung P3, US still gets none
It was hard to give back Samsung's P3 after caressing it for a few moments at CES, knowing we'd be sadly separated for at least a few months waiting for an indeterminate release date sometime before July. Today that official arrival is still just as vague, but now our hearts yearn just a little more with Samsung updating and extending the functionality of the player, adding the ability to play native resolution 800 x 600 video, enabling support for video subtitles in SMIs, adding mosaic browsing for videos, and throwing in a fun little drawing application to boot. A full (and jazzy) video breakdown of the new features is embedded below, which people on the fence about S9 now or P3 later won't want to miss.

wow, this is one sexy beast.
The two clocks have different times?
I believe it's a world clock.
Happened already on some phones at MWC... I think it's a private joke between manufacturers...
no soup for you!
it reminds me of meizu m8
subtitles playback....SOLD!
Looks great. Shame about the WQVGA resolution.
Honestly, considering that this is first and foremost a PMP, The QVGA resolution is less of a problem than on say, an internet tablet.
This is more geared towards people who want a Music and video player, with some nifty extras, rather than an all-in-one-and-the-kitchen-sink kind of a player like the iPod touch.
Samsung, making you drool over your hardware since 1938.
That thing looks really nifty.
Wow...thats gorgeous!
I wonder how it will compare to the Cowon S9 and iPod Touch in sound and video playback.
Do stereo bluetooth headsets do justice to the stellar sound output by these players (talking of course about S9 and P3 only)?
I know on my P2, with BT headsets, the quality is just normal. You dont have access to the DSe options.
yeah.. even my p2 can make phone calls. The P3 can make phone calls definately!:D
Nice interface, love the video play back feature, especially subtitles !
PMP manufactures , are you watching ?
what's the hell is going on with that music ?
I agree. "Music" is horrible. I muted it...still have a headache from it.
Doctor Who! fuck yeah!
Exterminate, EXTERMINATE! Those Daleks used to scare the hell out of me as a kid.
Yes.. but will it float?
Hot! but can it make phone calls? I'm honestly surprised that pmps are still so solid in the market.
Yes it can...well with the P2 you can connect your phone thru BT and dial/receive calls thru the player
That whole idea of discrete phone + pmp + BT headset may sound clunky, but I really want it, and here's why:
I sometimes bike to work, close to an hour's trip, and of course I want tunes, but the capacity to answer calls on the road is great. So why not just play music on my phone? Because I don't want to kill the battery on my phone, that's why. And, the pmp has a bigger battery anyway.
As I understand it, these Sammy pmps pair with both the phone AND the headset, and when a call comes in, the music's paused. Brilliant.
BAM.
My S9 already supports mosaic chapters for video. It's hard to tell if the P3's UI is faster, since the video spends more time with clever edits, then actually using the device. The paint program seems silly, since you don't have a stylis, so what can you really draw with your finger?
I wonder if the P3 will have support for a desktop dock? The S9's design makes a charging/playback dock impossible. Also it can't be run well charging either. I hope the P3 can. I'm not fond of the Sansa and Zune, but at least they have charging docking stations for home use.
hey, does anyone know if you can easily alter your play list as you're listening?... in other words, drag songs into a new position?....Thanks!
The native 800x600 support should be good for playing a few semi-hd videos, I wonder if it can scale hrhd rips?
damn. that screen is beautiful.
