Foam-infused Impress DIS.PLAY encourages touching
Move over Surface, we just found our next tabletop display. The aptly named DIS.PLAY beautifully merges the functionality of a touch panel with the allure of dimly-lit scenarios, and the inclusion of memory foam just makes it all the more sweet. In one usage scenario, we're told that objects could be put into motion with sound, and when a certain "shape" is mashed and deformed, the respective audio would bend along with it. Another instance showcased 3D modeling that could be varied by simply twisting the hand or intensifying a finger press. Check the demonstration video after the break, and grab your Tempur-Pedic pillow if you're looking to play along.

I think it's pretty obvious this device was born for virtual sex.
This + Tasimo = Downloadable Celeb's like on Futurama!
I checked the comments on this one, curious just how far down I'd have to read until someone posted a sex joke. *sigh*
oh it's no joke my friend.
the projection onto the hands kinda spoiled it....
it'll be nice if the light is projected from the foam...
Kind of uninspiring...
DISCLAY
Does looks like it is kinda hard to press down that foam.
Could get tired of "squezing" out newsfeed...
Wth Darren...
The product is called Impress. DIS.PLAY is a german blag dealing with something that looks like modern art fused with hi-tec. And visualizations and stuff. And the foam is normal foam, not memory foam.
But yes, the first I thought of was "how can this be used for more efficient porn usage?"
Memory foam? How many gigabytes can it store?
Wow I saw this and first thought it was fiberglass insulation...and you thought gorilla arms were bad. Although it sounds like a good idea for anyone into S&M. Especially if you take the first posters advice.
No matter what the end-user application is, that thing's gonna get pretty filthy and microbe-friendly rather quickly. Now if only it could use those bacteria to play Phage Wars instead of having to rely on a Flash window!
anyone know the name of that song on the video?
so much more closer to real porn!
Anyone know what the song used in the video is?
It's called "generic computer nurds - generic music for boring technical demonstrations"
From where? Since when did he suddenly become a proper source for gadget news? :P
Couldn't they atleast show a single use for this thing?
I don't seem much real application for this... I just can't imagine what the point would be to push down on fabric to register a command with anything electronic. This is vaporware that you might be able to show at some science museum at best. It's not like we will see foam cellphones or anything. You can't install this on a piece of clothing, you need something to not only power the device but you need a projector as seen in the video. The comments are correct. You mount a projector above your bed, next to your ceiling mirrors, and play sex games. That or you lay in bed like a lazy ass with bedsores checking your email on your mattress all day. Touch displays work, because the display is built in period, and you don't have to throw your cell phone in with all your dirty laundry. Even head-tracking works because all you need is to mount IR LEDs on a Bluetooth earpiece or some kind headset like on a pair of shades. Technology should never be mixed with fabrics unless of course it's some kind of radical self-healing, self-cleaning shirt powered by nano-bots.
That's kinda gross. Using a public computer keyboard is bad enough, but sticking your hands in nasty sweaty foam?? No thx.
Looks like it already supports "multi-mash"...
Where's the photo resizing demo???
wait...how is this related to porn? I don't see the resemblance. what would you do with foam....stick it in? o.O
So is this the good touch or bad touch?
Depends on what part of the display you touch....
this one gets the space alien SEAL OF APPROVAL
