Yum, caviar!
thats beautiful
I'm gonna save so much porn on that baby
And then the magic of porn soon reveals that even on 2TB, you've run out of space, and need another drive.
I hear possessing more than 1 TB of porn is a Federal Offense and they can send you away for psychological evaluation.
What if it is just a few hours worth of 1440p? Just doesn't do it unless I can see the girl's arm hair.
Seriously though, I LOVE storage but we're getting into some insane sizes here and quality is going to become a bigger issue. I mean having 2TB of data on 1 drive is kind of scary. I'd like to see them develop more methods of data loss prevention, not just "back it up on another drive".
Pfft, you guys download entire movies?
I found out the short free clips were showing all that was needed.
It's just wrong to stare at that stuff for so long (considering they last from half to a full hour).
@Jon
Dude, ever heard of RAID?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redundant_array_of_independent_disks
If you add 2TB of porn to a drive, does it start to gain mass?
If you look at that much porn, I would recommend spending the money on this drive on a psycological evaluation instead.
WD should offer a promotion....Get a free pack of tube socks when buying this new drive.

RAID is not a backup solution!!

Wow, 2TB. I have trouble using more than 20GB on my 160GB HDD !
lol same
Too much free space?
BitTorrent can solve your dilemma.
@michas_pi
Here here. I got a 1.5TB Seagate drive recently and thanks to bittorrent I'm using a little under half right now. I expect to start deleting stuff sometime during the summer.
That's if it even lasts you till the summer. Boy i got burned 3 times by that drive...
How come its taken so long to go from 1tb to 2tb? Now that 2tb is (nearly) here, will we get to 3tb, 4tb, 8tb, 16tb faster than we went from 1tb to 2tb?
the jump from 1.5 Tb to 2 Tb was a 500 Gb difference. Only a few years ago did we even have a 500 Gb hard drive.
5tb in 2010..

Mabe december of 2010...
I`ll wait till net year to buy a new drive (I hope I can wait)
So the only real purpose I could see with a 2 tb drive is DVR.
Friend: "I didn't have time to watch the second episode of Trust Me yesterday luckily I recorded it."
You: "Oh that started already, luckily I've been recording tnt for the few weeks"
Although, not going to lie, at a lan years ago there was a server with a 2tb folder called "porn", was kind of impressed by the dudes devotion, which after 2 seconds turned into pitty.
Did anyone who noticed that the sticker is crooked and have the same sinking feeling?
umm.. I dont even have a 500 gig yet. And I had plans and dreams on how to fill up a 1 terabyte in the future when I get it and now theyre putting out 2 TB?! THIS SOON! What on EARTH do people save on their HDD?! Don't SAY PORN because I probably have more than anyone here and mine hasnt reached 200 Gigs. Unless some of u are just porn addicts and have all vintage and new porn. Ok enough porn jokes. Who can seriously fill up 1 TB that quick!!
We live in the digital world.
Movies and tv shows are what does it.
I have 1TB of space for externals and a 250gb internal and they are almost full. I backup my dvds to my HD. If i didnt shrink them down to about 3gb each they would have used up the 1TB in no time.
I also download tv shows, i dont watch tv because i cant stand the ads and the reality crap. At about 170mb an episode it doesnt take long.
Music is at 13gb and i only have a small collection, and its in mp3 format not lossless.
Games at roughly 4gb each...
I would never buy a single 2TB drive though. Too many eggs in one basket. I found the happy medium is 500gb.
Have you ever tried uncompressed video editing? I've used up (3) 1.5 TB HDDs already (raid) for a video project I'm working on.
HD porn... fills up TB's fast..
Actually anything 1080p x264 files up the space very easily... most of these torrents are 4-20gb a piece. Heck bluray rips of any season of anythng can take up 25-60 gb easily.
I will be adding a bunch of these 2tb drives to my unraid server as soon the price drops a bit.
There are some people that rip their entire 300 DVD movie collections to the hard drive. Why I have no idea. Is it that hard to switch discs or is it for safe-keeping. I could understand that this might be useful if you have lots of children watching movies all day.
4.3GB for each DVD "rip" adds up. I have a 1tb raid 1 setup and it's already full somehow.
There's also people out there that download pirated software/movies/music all day and night too. Half of which they'll never use, but i won't go there.
Also consider the people that have years and years of data that they have to migrate to a new drive. On top of all the new pr0n they will be downloading to make up for lost time when they didnt have all those gigs.
@Travis
How many copies of 300 do these people you talk of own?
HD porn!!!, DOH
is this going be like RE3 class or is it going to be lower grade?
I'm waiting impatiently for the first one who post pictures of him opening this baby
Major problem. MBR only goes 2TB. Hence, you cannot use this dude for a boot disk for MS (XP or Vista).
I hope you can boot to GPT for Windows 7.... But I have not seen this covered yet!
Wait, if MBR only goes to 2 TB (actually, I believe it's 2 TiB, and that's _per_ partition), and this thing is 2 TB (or more specifically, 1.8 TiB), then where's the problem?
Or were you talking about their next size bump, whatever that might be.
...
Okay, Wrong Wrong Wrong Wrong WRONG.
It's only unbootable if the MBR is pointing at a partition boot sector with a LBA sector address beyond 2 TiB.
Windows 7, when clean installed to an empty harddrive, will create two partitions:
Partition 1: Beginning of drive, 200MB, "Boot, System, Active, Primary Partition".
Partition 2: Rest of space. "System, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition".
So 7 already mitigates the problem by default unless you manually set up a different configuration or set up dual booting or your own partition scheme.
Vista also won't have this problem as long as the beginning of their partition is below 2TiB.
XP as well, after installing the Vista BCD bootloader instead of sticking with NTLDR.
Linux also will not have this problem, because you can assign /boot to any partition.
Usually, I create a 128MB ext2 or FAT16 filesystem as my /boot at the very beginning of EVERY drive in the system.
Grub's handled FAT for years, and GRUB2's no exception. Plus with the ext2ifs for XP/Vista, even windows can edit the grub menu.
TV and Movies have done it for me. And I just go for the standard definition, and don't backup and I've pretty much jam packed my 1TB external drive. If I were to get HD movies and TV, and wanted to backup, it would be quite conceivable to need 10-20TB I think. I like having everything on just the one drive, so a 2TB would be good but for sure it will be a stop gap until something bigger comes along.
I really like the concept of the WD TV thing, but I think they either need to add wireless, add at least 30GB of SSD storage, or drop the price to $49.99. At $99.99+ it's just too much for what amounts to an MPEG-4 chipset, HDMI out, a box, and an interface.
What's up with the expression "eyes-on"? It's starting to get annoying.
no hands on. im sick of the term "spotted in the wild"
Keep em coming. My drobo and HP Windows Home Server are always hungry for more. When I first reached 1TB (2x500GB) on my Windows Home Server, I thought I have more than enough storage space for my needs. Now, my Windows Home Server is almost at 2TB, and I'm adding another 1TB drive soon. I do hope reliability to not be a problem. Seagate have their issues. Hopefully WD did their homework.
i love the display. just where a 2TB HDD belongs.... in a meadow.
I get the whole 'green thing' that they're trying to portray here but that display makes the hard drive look like a tombstone in a cemetery...
This must be 4 500gb platters? I really want a 2 platter 1TB drive to upgrade my WD 640gb drive. I know Seagate has some 500gb platter drives out, but I prefer WD, especially with all the problems with 7200.11 and RMAs I've had to do.
Hello i gotten 1.5tb segate and im out of storage lol, 1080p video gobbles the space really fast,
hf-s11 canon video camera records full hd 1080p well it eats 24MB/s so if i had a 2000GB hard drive it only 23.7 hours of video
hello i need a 100 TB hard dirve here anyone sells one? ( although i think flash will get there faster 100tb flash drive lol nice.
I wish we get there soon maybe 2015? lol 2020 1 EB 2025 10 EB 2030 500 EB :D yeah! i think im close
