RIM's BlackBerry 9630 World Edition finally strikes a pose

Finally, an honest to goodness picture of what may well be the sweetest BlackBerry RIM has pushed out to date. Featuring keyboard styling taken from its chubbier friend, the BlackBerry Bold, and the sleeker lines of the Curve 8900, this certainly looks like a recipe for success. If you're a BlackBerry user on Verizon, we'd say major celebration is in order if this wanders your way in the near future. We still only have the info we posted last week about it, but as the hype spins up, we expect the leaks will, too.

Final a Rev A blackberry
wrong. The Storm is a Rev. A Blackberry
um every BlackBerry on Verizon since the 7250 has had REV A support (software upgrade on 7250).
"the sweetest BlackBerry RIM has pushed out to date..." "...this certainly looks like a recipe for success."
A RIM device that's a receipe for success? That's an oxymoron!
Oh yeah, the Storm that nobody bought, or they bought and then returned... And I can guarantee you the Pearl and the Curve do not have Rev. A.
Over 1 million people bought Storms and less than 3% were returned. Mine was certainly not returned. IS ANYONE ELSE TIRED OF IDIOT SAVANTS BASHING THE STORM?
Go eat a knife.
Jon, the guys at letstalk.com say that the 8130 (CDMA Pearl) supports EV-DO Rev. A

@jon: tru
Sprint....are you listening?? Dont let a crippled Verizon version be the only one in town.
Exactly how would Verizon cripple a Blackberry? The current 8830 world phone on Verizon is no different then any other 8830 you will find.
WORD
Sprint been making a lot of moves lately...GOOD ONES. Hopefully they'll continue on the right path. Cuz God knows I don't want to switch to Verizon or AT&T.
Worse comes to worse though and Sprint goes under I'll definitely choose AT&T over Verizon...
Not to mention they've actually un-crippled the GPS on some existing Blackberries. And the Storm launched with uncrippled GPS. I used the Garmin trial on it just fine.
Exactly the same way they take the fun out of of all their other Smartphones. Nobody gives a shit about the Storm....which 3 in 4 response youll hear people will easily give up theirs for this.
They just RECENTLY started alloting GPS in its phones and they had the Wifi Removed at "their request". Sprint wouldnt do that...they didnt for the Touch Pro Either.....So why does Verizon? As much as people will be willing to pay for this phone theres no excuse to have features missing and You have no answer for that.
I can see a T-Mobile customer wanting wifi to alleviate EDGE speeds and gain the unlimited wifi calling, or maybe ATT users if they are outside a 3G area. But do you realize how fast the Bold is on 3G? And how fast Rev A EVDO is?
I do still wish they'd stop asking for wifi-free phones though. It is pretty stupid. But I can't honestly say I'm missing it with Rev A.
How do they cripple devices? Can you say WiFi?
And no, RevA is not a replacement for WiFi so you can stuff that in a sack.
Dorf, doesn't Verizon cripple Bluetooth? So, that's one right there. I've also heard of GPS and Wifi crippling.
@dorf
Verizon locks the sim portion on their WE to only accept their sim card when you travel abroad, whereas the sim slot in the Sprint version is unlocked, so you can pick up a local prepaid sim and not pay bloated prices for using your phone abroad.
I can't imagine ever jumping ship to Verizon for any phone with their over priced plans and crippled smart phones.
... and some of can't imagine ever jumping ship from Verizon to lose coverage and gain dropped calls.
To answer Zargon, the funny thing is I live in the NYC tri-state area and I had more dropped calls from Verizon then ATT. Also where I work at Verizon could not support service because according to the tech staff they do not have a tower pointing in that direction (I work in NYC for god sakes). I couldn't even get service in Atlantic City.
Now that I switched to ATT, thank god I got coverage everywhere, that I go. Now the Bold does have drop calls, but my Fuze is golden, I just like the Bold better.
yeah I guess I should have mentioned that I live in NYC as well and should have added that *while living in nyc, where at&t's and t-mobile's coverage are both pretty good and for a good portion of the surrounding area, I would be hard pressed to ever jump ship to VZW for their crippled smartphones and overpriced plans.
OMG finally a worthy BB for VZW since Curve...(yes that is a dig at the shitty Storm)
BOIINNGGG!!!
Looks like a great thing.
I'm using the javelin right now.. and the only thing that i really hate is the cheap keyboard..
I'd gladly give up my Curve and Bold for that one!!
**waits to here the whine's about no-wifi**
OOPS, I meant Curve and Storm*
LOL, comment fail.
"Worse comes to worse though and Sprint goes under I'll definitely choose AT&T over Verizon..."
Why on earth would someone do that?
It'd be going backwards, even moving from Sprint. Smaller 3G network. Rollover doesn't save most customers a dime. They choose the lowest quality GSM settings imaginable so call quality sucks. And on top of all of it the prices are the same as Verizon.
Dan that's an easy answer, ATT does not cripple their devices - especially the bluetooth (You don't know how much I hate that), cost less - plans and service, and has a smooth migration to LTE sinces it's a general upgrade for GSM/GPRS//UMTS. Verizon while moving to the LTE technology will have a heard transition CDMA is not a natural path to LTE, but finally Verizon joins the world in the GSM world, maybe now they will stop limiting devices and forcing them to have that stupid Verizon interface. Also time and time again ATT's UMTS network beats out Verizon on speed (though I would think this is subjective to your area).
If Verizon moves to LTE offer comparable pricing and does not hack the devices they might be a contender in the world market. Remember to beat ATT, Verizon had to buy Alltel, and that was to add 10 mil users to stand at 80 mil, ATT stands at 77 mil, if they buy the 2 mil that remains for Alltel that's 79 mil.
Except they don't cripple Bluetooth in the slightest on smartphones. And as far as I know, LTE despite being the spiritual successor to GSM/UMTS it is a 100% different technology.
In other words, the upgrade path from GSM to LTE wouldn't be any easier than upgrading from CDMA to LTE. As it is a totally different technology compared to either one of them.
Okay, so ATT averages faster speeds. Doesn't change that you can't get 3G in many more places than the two CDMA carriers.
Actually I suggest you review the technical specs for LTE, and I'll leave it at that.
As for crippling Bluetooth, let see I can't send a File, can't send a contact, etc, Oh they remove WiFi, let me see last time I checked that's crippling the device.
So in my area, Verizon runs at much slower speeds then ATT, Sprint runs at speeds equal to ATT. So why would I use Verizon? If I want to use a CDMA carrier I'd use Sprint, they don't cripple their devices and have faster data speeds then VZ.
So why would I pick VZ?
Well then you shouldn't choose Verizon in your area. I'm not arguing for Verizon anyway, I'm arguing against ATT and the way they run their network.
And like I said, the Bluetooth isn't restricted at all on any of the Verizon Blackberries at the very least. Haven't played with a WinMO phone enough to know.
@Miacol
If you recall the company you currently call AT&T Mobility was formed when Cingular acquired the old AT&T wireless, so don't try to come with the Verizon had to buy Alltel to beat AT&T. Verizon was only 7 million customers behind AT&T without ever acquiring another major competitor so you might want to check your statement before trying to put Verizon down.
@ Dan: Because by that time ATT will have LTE deployed and their footprint will be fine. Besides, Sprint isn't going under.
Nice. Let me just say that as someone who switched from Verizon to AT&T for the BB Bold, I can't wait to get back to Verizon. They may cripple their phones, but I didn't have a dropped call in five years with Verizon and I have three a DAY with AT&T. It is insane and if I have to hear about "more bars in more places" one more time, I will throw my remote through the TV.
This in itself can be the device I have the same problem with the Bold, but my other 3G Phone the Fuze, doesn't have drop calls in the same area, go figure, though the 244 OS solved allot of my drop call issues, still not as good as the Fuze though.
I hate you can't use the internal memory for apps or the SD card, gotta get a third party app to do that, RIM bring the OS to the 21 century rebuild it from the ground up for god sacks.
Well I would LOVE for someone to tell me how to fix my BB Bold so it doesn't drop calls on AT&T. Anyone?
Go to http://forums.crackberry.com/f83/ and follow the instructions to update your bold to the latest OS. If you're running the original AT&T .168 OS version you'll see a huge improvement.
"IM bring the OS to the 21 century rebuild it from the ground up for god sacks."
I can definitely agree with that. Despite the strengths of the platform the Java-like OS is starting to show it's age with devices like the Storm, and even the Bold was slower than it should have been at launch (it's improved with updates). RIM would do well to look to another foundation for the OS in the future, perhaps using Linux so native apps for the new OS gain a lot on speed, and have a VM layer for compatibility with old apps.
Pah. I got a Bold 3 days ago!
No matter, I'm loving my Bold. Seriously best piece of phonage I've ever owned. Pisses all over my N95.
Id hope so the N95 only came out 2 years prior to the bold.
"the sweetest BlackBerry RIM has pushed out to date..." "...this certainly looks like a recipe for success."
A RIM device that's a receipe for success? That's an oxymoron!
Yes, because RIM isn't successful at all...
WHY in the heck do they have to call it the Niagara?! All I think of is Love Joy, and the failures of the Niagara Falls, NY USA side of things ..... sweet technology, wrongly names .. guess they've never been there before! :)
No touchscreen ,FAIL!!!
Full keyboard... UNFAIL
hey that doesnt have a touchscreen. it should have both keypad as well as touchscreen lol
whats the big fuss about a touchscreen? this is a business phone, and it is meant for productivity, a touchscreen would take out much of the battery life, and using a touchscreen keyboard to type emails isn't efficient at all.
lol thank you, someone finally gets it.
huh, what a helpful post. Thank you stranger for pointing us towards cnet, even though you have absolutely nothing to gain from it. Just a good Samaritan.
oh, and what is that artificial grass called? You know the stuff. I think they named it after they put it in the Houston baseball team's dome years ago.
I love the touchscreen on this , it looks so cool . It's the best decision ,lol!!!!!dee dee deee!!!!!!
