Mintpass's mintpad set to freshen up the pockets of American gadget lovers soon
The mintpad looks at first like a little pale runt of a PMP, but inside it's just dying to show you all it can do -- scheduler, camera, chat device, music player, video player, voice recorder, even web browser with flash support. Perhaps most importantly, though, it's finally set for official export out of South Korea. The WiFi device is currently undergoing translation and localization for a number of regions, including the US, work that is set to be completed sometime in the April showers to May flowers time frame. If it can ship here at the $150 price point that it goes for at home, it could be a hit. We can't wait to get our hands on one, but for the moment will have to get by watching the twitchy guy in the video after the break play with his.

I'm still not sold on whether this is a crapgadget or not..
Awesome but miss a real keyboard.
Somehow I am (temporarily) psychic and get a message that $150 is out of the realm.
iphone/touch=crapgadget
mint=cool..just dont eat it cause you will die of lead poison
He is A.D.D>
Nah you've got ADD, that's just the speed at which people there interact with Tech over there. They've had it long before us, so growing up they are put through rigorous training and exercises to increase agility and speed when using a touchable device. Definitely not ADD, not at all....
yah azns are so much better than us westerners with our poor technology
Just from watching him bang on the screen 10 times in a row during .wma playback while trying to get back a screen I realize something. This happened at 4:15 in the video and several other times.
Hey Korean tech spaz, THE SIDEBAR HAS TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP BEFORE YOU CAN INTERACT WITH THE PAGE!!!
He hammered away at the damn screen at least 3 separate occasions while the .wma was loading. If he has been trained from a young age to interact with technology why did an inferior American such as myself pick up on that through casual observation.

Interesting. The future of post-its is here. Just wish more time was spent on the web browser.
cant watch it, and I love my iPhone LOL
Exactly how is this thing different from a four year old Archos PMA430, other than that the Archos has a 30 GB hard drive and can record video? I'm even betting that you can get a PMA430 for less than what this one costs.
It's not Four years old, it's brand new.
It has better guts, a better OS and is cheaper? Good luck even finding an Archos PMA these days, not a lot of them were sold.
This looks a neat little Box, Boxes are fun especially if you get to prod at them with a wand or some other type of poking device. $150 would be a steal for this. If indeed it does come to NA then I shall have to purchase one of these.
You must've forgotten this was announced by iRiver last year. Mintpass is a division of iRiver.

This is a Cowon D2 with a web browser and fancy interface with too much sliding. I really hope that this device has good audio quality like the D2. I would prefer linux because it would be easier for people to mod it and could just copy what those people do with step by step instructions. I won't mind the Windows CE as long as it has drag and drop so it can work with linux and as long as the software on the device is good. Fingers crossed.
I think that video is actually used by medical schools to show the progress of a patient who is without ritalin too long, but it had the device in it so now it's dual use.
Add to guaranteed to fail product list here in USA,,
Can I get it with multi-touch for my dual-thumb typing technique? I am afraid that my thumbs would move too fast for the screen to detect the proper key presses, although it looks like Skippy the Squirrel with the bad speed/crack habit up there is not having any trouble with the keyboard... hmmmm $150 does sound like a fantastic price, but I'm not thinking that is very likely here. Any guesses on a real price point? I'm gonna say $249.99 with a price drop in three to six months to $199.99. After another six months to a year, the price MAY (depending on sales) drop another 50 bucks. Probably not until the next model is on it's way though.
Memo access from anywhere is a pretty nice touch. If these come to Europe at a decent price point I might have to grab one just to play around with.
Hm, looks pretty nice- if it stays around that price point maybe it could replace my iPod touch, which I'm kind of getting bored of...
Finally.. A device in my pocket that has a touchscreen, but actually lets me use the touchscreen for uses other than scrolling and zooming!
Bloody 'ell, how long did that take!?
$150 for a pocket device, that could/would actually be USED as a notepad..
No more random bits of paper, padding out my pocket!
Come out in the UK, Mintpad!!!
I'm surprised nobody started a long list of such devices as a reply.
The n800 does that... I know it may not be amazing, just saying that it fits in your pocket and does a heck of a lot more than scrolling (although you can't zoom with touch). You can use it to take handwritten notes, too. I'm sure you'd be able to pick one up for $150 if you tried, also.
Oof. That flash has got to take a massive blow to battery life. No pun intended.
Not bad at all:

This will be the next big device. Teens and other social-addicts will eat it up for that price.
What's that stick-like thing he's touching the screen with? What sort of voodoo is this? Turbofail!
have been using a Mintpad since last November and have been extremely happy with it. I bought it from Korea when it launched. I have used many PDAs including Palm Pilot, Palm III, Sony Clie, and Dell Axim x50v and like the Mintpad best. I can carry it anywhere (this device is the tiniest of all), take pictures, and make memos. And I use this to watch live tv streaming services. Best $140 I have ever spent in my life (if you are not a PDA type person, you might not like it).
One more thing. This tiny device can play most video files without re-encoding. I love the Mintpad than the iPod touch just for this reason.
BTW, the maker, mintpass, has already upgraded the firmware of the Mintpad 8 times. They added new features almost twice every month. The Mintpad has better UI now than the one you see in the YouTube clip above. I have never seen the company who reflects the opinions of users that fast. Every time I show this device to my friends in the States, they all are crazy about it. I do not think this device will be big like an iPod, however, if you are a reader of Engadget, you'll love it a lot.
And the Mintpad looks awesome if you see it in your eyes. If it is released in US, I would buy one more for my kid.
