Evergreen's impossibly small Micro USB Mouse
As nerds of feeble build and limited lung capacity, we generally like our portable gadgets to be as small as possible. Problem is, there's a fine line between ultra-portable and un-useable. Take Evergreen's $20 Micro USB Mouse... please. Our opposable meat-hammers would futilely mash away on this quartet of buttons -- nevermind the scroll-ball. Oh it's there all right, see it after the break.

This doesn't look to bad, but don't really see the point of it when your laptop already has a track pad. Does anyone else think thoes retractable USB cables are super lame?
I've never understood those super micro travel mice. I think most of the unwieldiness of mice comes in the tangle from the cord, which this one has as well. As far as size, you could stand a small miniaturization from desktop size, but this is ridiculous. I like my Logitech VX Nano - it's small while still being big enough to use comfortably. I mean, you're just going to throw it in your laptop bag, right? How small does it have to be?
MicroCrapgadget
Honestly, for some it may be a crapgadget, but for me its a perfect design.
For me atleast, you have no idea how nice it is to be laserless and portable. And they even had the heart to include that middle click button on the bottom! Now I can close firefox tabs easier! The rocker switch for the scroll, and the miniscule trackball make this even better.
Out in the field, there is often no place to use a portable laser mouse....no good clean surfaces. And using a trackpad is useless for real control. This is just what I needed....Engadget, find me a US retailer and I'll buy 100!!
DOH...I just had a thought...It almost looks like the bottom of the casing is the same as a last-gen Shuffle! Look at the first pic, and tell me there wasn't a clip there....
@Mike
Are you playing Quake "in the field"? What could you possibly be doing that a trackpad can't accomplish?
Mike obviously hasn't tried Apple's trackpads... My early '08 MBP's trackpad is basically a 10 "button" mouse (two buttons and 8 gestures) with 360° scroll with MultiClutch installed (maps multitouch gestures into key commands) and the new unibodys have 4 "buttons" (four finger swipes) more - even though the trackpad itself appears to have no buttons at all! Still waiting for this to be adopted in PC laptops...
the cord on this one is retractable, check out the first picture.
atheos, there's no way Apple would let any other company copy their touchpad design without heavy sue-age. After all, they patented multi-touch phones and won't allow anyone else to use them (not even licensed).
And am I the only one who liked the F16 flight stick nubs? My palms always click touchpads while I'm typing.
I'd like to try this tiny thing nonetheless. I love pointless gadgets!
Brando's got competition!
I love tiny little nipples, but this is taking it to far!
Goes well with my 0.02" umpc.
but why?
Mouse? Uh, I think you mean trackball guys.
I think I would actually use it for times when I'm chillaxin on the couch watching a movie on my comp and don't want to lean forward to use a finger for raise/lower the volume.
My thoughts exactly
You need to trim your fingernails, bro
It's still cool to look at on tech blogs, even if i wouldn't buy one for myself or as a gift...
-nor would I accept one as part of a court-ordered settlement of some kind.
(I'd like to think my negotiating skills are better than that.)
I saw these at my local microcenter a few years ago.
That micro-crap gadget device would be annoying to use.
I have no problem using a full sized wireless mouse with my S-10.
The V450 Logitech has a tiny USB dongle that can be kept plugged in. No matter how small a device is, if it is uncomfortable to use, it is pointless.
This is a trackball you morons. It's not quite the same thing as a mouse. This could be incredibly efficient for ergonomics. Anyone who has ever done data entry and had to move their hand from the mouse to the numpad a million times a day knows that.
Personally, I'm a fan of my MoGo x54 mouse. That's as small a mouse as I'll ever need - smaller than a credit card, it can fit just about anywhere, but it's still comfortable to use, and most importantly, wireless. And it charges right there in my laptop's x54 slot.
Ooohhhh..... but it's a glitter track-ball.
Holy crap. Who is that even designed for, a little person?
A mouse that size makes my hand cramp just looking it. Cue flood of bad memories involving puberty and the Victoria's Secret catalog (alright alright... it was the Sears catalog).
Now will you unhook me? I don't deserve this kind of treatment!
Bzzzzzzzt!
Not very usable
That doesn't look entirely unusable. The trackball is about the same size as the ball on my BlackBerry, and that one works just fine. The buttons look significantly bigger than the keys on my BlackBerry too.
the trackball looks like just the same one that is on the Mighty Mouse. And everyone loves the Mighty Mouse. Right? :D
Evergreen clearly did their market research, this mouse takes nerds everywhere one step closer to the perfect digital woman. Now they can experience feebly trying to find "the right spot" without ever living their parents basement...
