Rock Band ticks off 40 million tracks sold, $1 billion in revenue
That's a lot of dollars. Also? A lot of Mötley Crüe. Seriously, people, calm down. As of right now Rock Band has 614 songs on offer, 269 different artists, 11 full albums, more revenue than any other game in 2008, $1 billion total in North American retail sales, 40 million tracks sold, and unhindered wallet access to countless deluded human beings who think they're rock stars.

Mötley Crüe rocks.
OMG, Vince Neil looks like a blow-up doll in that picture.
Vince Neil IS a blow up doll.
Shout at the Devil!!
Mötley Crüe is da gay. When was lipstick, makeup and wigs ever a sign of toughness?
The 80s, hence the attire.
I love my PS3 Rock Band 2 :)
Up until very recently, I never really understood the fascination since I play multiple instruments, compose, and produce. But it really is quite fun to play with my roommates and friends. Hooray!
My favorite song so far is Stone Temple Pilots' Interstate Love Song. What about all y'all?
STP rocks, but my fav is definitely Sex Type Thing.
Most defiantly Sexy Type Thing
Changes depending on my mood, but I'd say my fave song atm is probably Boston's More Than A Feeling
revenue is one thing, profits is another. I wonder, after all the man hours of negotiating with these bands and record labels, and paying royalties, and programming the songs, if they make any profit on downloads.
If the record industry is involved, EA will be lucky if they don't end up owing money...
Thats a lot of cash 1Billion WOW its like $,$$$,$$$,$$$! i would be happy with just half million $$$,$$$
yea, 780 times LESS than Obama's FAIL
let's not forget interest, totaling over 1 trillion, plus the 40 billion earmark bill signed, no cameras allowed. it's great mr. teleprompter is our prez, I really do enjoy it
As soon as I get home I'm downloading Ten. (Which will be my first full album purchase.)
It will also put me over 200 songs available to me in the game (After getting the export key last week, and I believe I've got about 50 DLC on top of those.)
My favorite songs...it's probably going to be Black and Jeremy; I can't wait to play either of those.
The stuff I have right now, I love Well Thought Out Twinkles (Silversun Pickups), Indestructible (Disturbed), and both Everlong and My Hero (Foo Fighters).
Even after paying off all the bills, its still a lot of Benjamins to light your cigars with.
virtual days : no more real instruments, no more real players, no more real feelings. only a plastic taste in our mouth.
but the same real money for the producers...
run kid, there is an new update on the playstation store for you for a few bucks.
wanna be real ? > buy a REAL instrument and learn to play for REAL...
this is only a game...
See, I have no interest whatsoever in playing a real instrument, I just love being able to play the drums and guitar on Rockband. It may seem as if everyone playing Rockband and Guitar Hero are just nerds who can't play a real instrument but I really have no desire to play an instrument, the virtual ones on Rockband are perfect for me. Think about it, not everyone wants to play a real instrument.
Too much money. I heart Rock Band.... Don't get me wrong. But to buy all those accessories/songs/junk is just plain silly.
quite a questionable facial expression you got there, blondie
He wants your meat.
the hell...... thats a guy??!
Welcome to the 80's
Anyone know where these revenue numbers put Rock Band relative to the record labels?
Considering that the record industry probably makes more off of the sale of the game than EA...probably pretty far behind.
I think activision needs to wake up with ghwt because there DLC sucks!
Wow. I just can't buy extra songs - I paid enough for the games, IMO. $1,000,000 just shows you what kind of money is really at stake here. I'm not sure I can consciously contribute to it. Yes, the devs, artists and conglomerate deserve to make money, but that's a lot of scratch.
That's a million.........
hey james, this is for your number...
,000 Please place it at the end.
you're welcome.
Who are all those women?
They definitely haven't heard that one before...
Rock Band 2 is like the only game I even play anymore. I used to be such a gamer, too.
$1,000,000,000? 40,000,000 individual tracks? That equals a hell of a lot of people playing rhythmically playing plastic instruments. I'll stick to my real Fender Telecaster, thank you very much.
You'll never be as good as your cousin
40 million tracks sold... 1 billion in revenue? That's $25 per track!!! And you wonder why pirating songs is so popular?!!!
Not to call you stupid....
But that was a really stupid comment.
1 bil in Revenue, from the Games, RB1 and 2, and the Hardware, and the Downloads.
darkmax, I think the $1 billion number includes game and accessories sales.
Picture makes me remember how much the late 80s/early 90s sucked until Nirvana hit the scene. The whole glam rock things was so pathetic.
how about some other dam genres like pop, country and r & b, obviiously this is targeted to just the white rock people... get some dam different types of songs in there.
Harmonix is trying to get a lot of different genres in their game,
but they can only do so much when they're dealing with EA and MTV.
Even still, they released a funk pack last week, and there have been
a couple country packs (ugh) already. There's also some hiphop songs
available as well.

at this rate, rockband will be selling music better than that CD industry...
Step 3: Profit.
The whole Guitar Hero phenomena is for losers who really need to prove something to their friends after they messed up the Gossip Girl night at their house.
I'm still waiting out on Lightning Bolt's next album
(Brian Gibson, bassist, works for them)
I find it humorous that Activision has whored out the Guitar Hero franchise to turn a quick buck since they got it from Harmonix, meanwhile Harmonix's own Rock Band has $1 billion in revenue from 2 games and a CRAPLOAD of DLC. I think we know what the standard is for rhythm games. : )
How about a real guitar where the game is actual cords and after playing the game, then you know how to play the song and cords in real life.
Seems like thats the better idea
God, I miss the '80s!
