Sanyo's QWERTY-packin' SCP-2700 lands on Sprint
Not that we're blindsided by its official introduction or anything, but it's still good to see Sanyo's SCP-2700 in one clear, crisp, cohesive press photo. Available exclusively on Sprint, the QWERTY-equipped handset boasts a 1.3 megapixel camera, Sprint Navigation, threaded text messaging support and Bluetooth. Prospective buyers will need to choose between Impulsive Pink (with a subtle floral overlay) and Deep Blue (which has a tactile square designer pattern on its back), but considering that you've got until May 10th to decide, we'd say there's no real hurry. Oh, and pricing? $29.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and signing away your cellular soul for two long, painful years.

"after a $50 mail-in rebate and signing away your cellular soul for two long, painful years."
With Sprint, this is oh so painfully true (as I dread having to call them after I get off work...).
I am so fucking sick of 2 year contracts. The reason I signed with Sprint 12 years ago is because I didn't have to sign a contract to join, but still got a good deal on a cool phone. Now every company doubles the price of the phone and gives you "discounts" for committing 2 FREAKIN YEARS OF YOUR LIFE to a device that has a shelf life of MAYBE a year. Hell, even the AWESOME SUPERIOR IPHONE only lasted a year before they replaced it with a newer model.
chill out
it's only a phone
You're right, of course. I need to stop reading spare blogs about gadgets.
Nice avatar.
I always get my phones unlocked.
Seriously, for any tech follower, getting a phone every 2 years is TORTURE. Unless it's a gorgeous Android (or maybe a Palm Pre)... none of those exist yet.
I've been contemplating this. What do you do if the phone breaks? Homeowners? I've thought about getting an unlocked GSM phone and flinging it to the carrier I choose but I'm too squeamish about not having it insured.
You could always buy an unlocked phone from BestBuy, and get their black tie protection.
Love the color, forget the phone. My thoughts. Give me any smartphone that color and I am sold. Hell, i'll even get an iphone if it was that color.
The Samsung Saga might be close to what you're looking for: http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/14/verizons-samsung-saga-shows-its-face-as-anticipated/
Nah, that color blows. The blue not as nice but now I know Samsung got me color.
my cousin in England laughed when i told him the US does 2 year contracts, he says O2 (English cell phone providor) offers great deals on either 6 month or 1 year plans! please bring to the US!
Regarding the 2-year contract issue...
I can't speak for every carrier, but based on my experiences with T-Mobile they will let you get a fully subsidized phone every 12 months with no hassle. Officially, you have to wait for your two year contract to expire, so you can't buy a new phone early through the website, but if you go to a T-Mobile store and try to buy a new phone 12+ months into your 2 year contract they will gladly cancel out the rest of your term and sign you on a new one.
They call it a "two year extension," but the term is misleading. They're not adding two years onto the end of your current release date, they're just resetting your release date to 24 months from the day you get the new phone.
I've done this once a year for the past five years or so at various locations and nobody has ever given me trouble about it.
Wow! check out the Nokia e71x killer... This is one cool phone, it commands knee jerk hysteria just thinking of the awesome 1.3 megapixel camera, wow! And the rectangular brick shape makes me have back to back orgasms, not to mension the flat blue color which gives it a priceless, luxury look. Am totally blown away, i'll ebay my 5800xm, e71x and my itouch and purchase this baby. Then I'll give the change to Obama to go bail out crappy oversea phone manufacturers.
Dude, I know. 1.3 mp? Really?
One thing though - Obama won't need to bail out Sanyo, they're doing fine, in fact, they got bought by Kyocera. They moved on a while ago. We may need Jesus H. Obama to bail out Sprint though, who has apparently become a clearing house for unloading yesteryear's technology.
So underwhelming.
