BlackBerry App World now live
As expected, the BlackBerry App World has just launched for US, Canada and the UK. If your software's updated to 4.2 and you've got a trackball / touch screen and PayPal account, head on over to RIM's website to download. Tell us, is it everything you thought it would be?

been using it for about 10 min. already and I have to say.......well done RIM, worth the wait and can't wait to see more to come
could use more sorting features, but its a great start
Do they have curve apps?
Seriously dude, what's up with that?
you guys must have REALLY yellow teeth.
@ Linhares
Huh?
Wish I were in the states...currently in Japan and not signed up for world service since its so expensive through Verizon (Storm). Wish the Storm had Wi-Fi capability. Can't wait to get home and play with App World! It's about time! Can anyone tell me if there are any worthy free apps?
Why can't y'all tell us?
Or is the mobile situation just like your computing setup...all crap from Cupertino?
I doubt it will be as good as Apple's iPod/iPhone store... I just wish BB had nice apps too... like Music ID... come on!
Off the bat? Well, I guess you're right, but that's not really fair.
Dumbphones have had access to Song ID and Music ID for years. Not special.
I have a BlackBerry Storm 9530 and have been playing in the BB App World for a few hours now and was immediately impressed. I love the ability to view screen shots of the app, read reviews and the extended description of the apps. The best part is that it's completely OTA, untethered. I was initially blown away at the selection of apps available, 300+ apps, that I assume are all compatible with the Storm. Large selection of free apps available. I'm curious if the App World will automatically notify users of application updates or if that's still the responsibility of the app developer.
Shazam is available in App World for BlackBerry and is listed as a Feature App http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/featured.jsp
The pictures on this post is not what BB's App World looks like, and is quite insulting. I'm anxious to show the app store off to my Apple loving coworkers in the morning.
Okay.. jumped the gun too quick. I've been using it for a while now on my 8330 Curve and it is AWESOME. I just wish some of the stuff was cheaper.. like 99 cents but I guess since BB is using PayPal as their service of payment.. PayPal's gotta get something. Bad Move.
Shazammmmmm!
Dude, the top download right now on the app store is Shazam which does music ID'ing.
Forewarned is forearmed, Jarrett - your Apple loving co-workers will not be impressed with "the ability to view screen shots of the app, read reviews and the extended description of the apps" because, er, that is precisely what you get on the App Store, too.
One doubts they will be jealous of the "300+ apps" and "Large selection of free apps available" because the App Store, after all, launched with than 500 apps and also had a large selection of free apps. And the App Store does certainly notify users of updates.
Do not get me wrong, I think having App Worlds and other stores for the other devices is a great thing, not least because it will provide some much-needed competition and comparison to the App Store, but also because it provides another source of revenue for devs (who hopefully will keep developing for many devices!). It means the wars can *truly* begin, and everyone's fave device is sure to benefit in many ways now that they're seriously competing with each other.
But you are kidding yourself if you think that this store's launch is something you can bash Apple fans with. (And for any iHaters firing up to reply - I mentioned Apple because Jarrett mentioned Apple, so don't blame me for bringing them into the conversation).
Feels like im using a commodore 64 to install prince of persia. They could have worked a bit on the UI
the UI is pretty nice, at least on the bold.
I'm really digging this App Store. PayPal is a good way to go with this. I like App World a lot. It's pretty easy to use. I'm ready for some more apps though.
BlackBerry has an official app that emulates Commodore 64 _and_ lets you install Prince of Persia?!
I want this phone.
Conflicker!
*Conficker
Been using it for a few minutes, and really, it's pretty awesome. I can't wait to look through apps on the move like all those iPhone groupies.
And now I don't need to go dumpster diving through the internet to find a program anymore.
I'm pretty impressed so far.
but will it fart?
Yep -- there's already a Farting App
I've found at least 2....
Of course. There is no shortage of hot air on the internet.
Congrats RIM. It's about time you catch up to your main competition on one of its major selling points.
Don' think Nokia has an app store...
Nah, I think he was referring to Google's Android Market...
This is going to be a time waster, lol.
Also, I love the apple fanboys already hating on it.
hamixda says winmo has about 30,000 apps.,.,thats sick.
Very slick and classy i like it.
Only issue is storage, if its not addressed RIM has dealt themselves a major blow
the majority of apps are 750-1000kb
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
I'm a user of the Blackberry Bold on the AT&T network. I'm using the new App World with 3 bars of 3G connection. So far I find it really nice to look through and it's super easy to use. All of the pages have user reviews and screenshots which definetley help. The only thing this needs are more apps which will come in due time. Congratualtions RIM I think you did a great job with this one and can't wait to see how it turns out.
Are you commenting on App World or rubbing it in that you have the Bold and 3G?
Is there a way to browse the Apps (other than the 'Featured' ones) without connecting your Blackberry? I just ordered the Storm but it won't be here for a few days.... and I'm anxious!
It does not appear so. I was looking for the same instead of using my Storm, but could only find the Featured Apps. Maybe they'll add it in the future.
Hit the Menu button and go to Categories.
wow.,so it took bb 13 years to create app store. It took iphone 6 months to create. winmo marketplace next...sounds like follow the leader, apple being leader. Now y couldnt all these other companies of thought about this say 10 years ago..
Because cellphones were the size of cinder blocks 10 years ago.
Stupid trolls.
The Sidekick had an app store (called catalogue) for years now, all the way back to the Sidekick 2. Not sure about the first. Now it wasnt that great but it was/is basically an store full of apps. The only thing Apple did, which I think everyone can agree on, is bring the idea of an App store to the forefront. Its becoming common now to expect an App Store kinda place.
And palm kinda had an app store calld "Add It". So It's not like apple was the first.
VZW has had Get It Now for years, which was their form of an app store - Apple was definitely not the first. Please use your brain.
Love the Apple fanboy-ish happening.
I'm sorry, but no one takes you seriously when you substitute the letter 'y' for the word 'why' or the letter u for the word 'you.' It also helps if you actually use proper capitalization!
buzz off apple Drone. A cheap Nokia has more features than your Iphone. Man i want to work for Apple. I would have stupid people like you paying my check!!! I think i will apply.
You could argue it took Apple 20 years to make a cellphone. You do realize that Apple waits for everyone else to invent, innovate, fail, succeed and then adds their gradient images and slide effects and calls it "innovation", right?
congratulations RIM, u did a really good job of cloning direct competitor ideas. We are all real proud of u.Even winmo fanboys are liking this.
