Japan sending biped robots to conquer moon by 2020

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

do you guys make these pictures? or get them sent to you?
Good question, I've often wondered about that too.
Props to whoever makes them though.
I think They just photoshopped Asimo, with the moon as a background :)
If you look closely.. to the right you can see an alien. Look.. closely.. WOW!
Rex, take your crazy conspiracy theories somewhere else.
I was expecting a picture of Gundams on the moon...not the ASIMO
Engadget made this one up themselves. Look at ASIMO's shadow - fake as hell. If HONDA was doing it, they would've built an entire moonscape on a movie set and video taped ASIMO navigating a 'real' extra-planetary environment.
And form the picture i gather Daft Punk is already setting up for the first moon concert.

Moon-walkies.
Great !!!
Is Rover going too?
Sincerely
Sparky the Aibo
The machines can take over from the moon too!! STOP THE MADNESS
All your moon belong to us.
Somehow the Aliens will alter the programming, then it's GG for us all.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Great! By then, I'll be yelling at kids to get off my lawn while listening to Detox and Relapse on the porch.
the rise of the robots colonies - matrix...
Asimov I to Asimov II: - What makes you think there are settlements over there? I am not going that way. It's much too rocky. This way is much easier.
What would you call them? Robonaughts?
Centurions.
Is this a surprise? I mean how many Gundam anime Japan did? They have done plenty of simulated scenarios already. =D
Yeah with the space station almost completed, robots and mobilsuit should already be in creation. Double Zeta FTW!
I think we can beat 'em to it.
it's the ancient ancestors of the future sentinels - agent smith

Why did engadget remove this post?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/03/snow-white-chomps-on-poison-apple-mod/
Also worth noting is that the site that the post pointed is:

I have a Firefox extension for RSS called Brief. It managed to get hold of the post before it disappeared. I'm also subscribed to Engadget RSS through Google Reader and confirmed that the post was indeed posted because I found it there as well.
Because it's not a "mod", it's just a stupid sticker on a stupid laptop.

thats stupid, it would be alot easier to use a robot on wheels or at least three legs. I mean llok how dificult it is for humans to move around in space on our two legs, and seeing how a robot can be redesigned specifically for moon traversing I dont see why they would choose that route.
O wait, it looks cool... nevermind.
Yea I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure it's complicated enough to get a robot to walk bipedally on earth on a flat surface, why would they try to do something like that on the moon? What happens if it falls over? Something on wheels would be the simplest (in my mind) or something with four legs at least to keep it balanced. I'm not sure how your three-legged scenario works out but I'll play along that it's better than two for now I guess...
Uh because Japan wants a robot that can actually move pieces of equipment that accompanies the robot when its up there?
A mere scavenger on wheels can't even wipe the freaking dust off its leg to analyze it, much less set up a completely stationary makeshift lab on the moon, but a robot with hands and strength can.
@gary: Clearly, you never watched Short Circuit!
John Glenn KNOWS that it was faked in a movie studio in Arizona.
Why won't he admit it? Is it because he hates Honda? Is that it?
This travesty and nearly 40 year old hoax cannot be covered up by a ramen eating robot who was raelly photographed in a studio in Arizona
wth you seriously think that all these people who see spacecraft launch into space believe what you just said after seeing what i just said?
Robots do not need diapers.
" ... the country's Strategic Headquarters for Space Development said recently that they expect a two-legged droid traversing the satellite's surface by 2020 ..."
All that can be heard on the surface of the moon will be "Roger ... Roger!"
That's actually R. Daneel Olivaw, but he's manipulating our minds to make us think he's Asimo.

i would just like to add that i believe that the title is unbelievably awesome. props, ross.
:)
At least there are no stairs on the moon.
you beat me to that
the fact that they have a Strategic Headquarters for Space Development should give away that they're pretty serious about their intentions to conquer space, and i, for one, welcome our japanese space conquering biped robots
Good thing there are no stairs on the moon!
Gleisner body is coming!
1941 ring a bell? Japan couldn't conquer the earth much less the moon.
Why, were you there? The time for that shit has long past, fuck off.
freaking cylons!
could they build a moon base? Complete with shopping mall?
That's a Mobile Suit... it's a Gundam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is exactly what we need.. Give the robots a clear shot to destroy the whole planet! Dammit japan...
All I have to say about this is... Super Baseball on the Moon!
That's no fun at all. I'd much rather see people on the moon than robots.
Id be much more satisfied with ASIMO building my moon home than that ridiculous four wheeled thingum.....
