We don't know exactly what the next generation of
TiVo hardware will be like, but if these survey screenshots are to be believed, we have an idea what they might be called. EHD reader Justin tipped us off to a recent online survey road testing new names like TiVo eVO, TiVO OmniBox, TiVo Series4 and TiVo OnDemand for new hardware with the TiVo features we've come to know and love
plus video on-demand access. Squaring off against competition like the Roku player and Xbox 360, peep the gallery and see how these roll off the tongue, or suggest innovation and environmental friendliness.
How about just plain old TiVo?
Except the orignal TiVos are named just TiVo. I think TiVo Series 4 is the best name. I was never a fan of TiVo HD naming.
Wasn't the first one called a TiVi? As in TiVo's TiVi? Man this is irritating.. I'm stuck with my Series 1 in the UK and they're talking about a series 4!! Dual DVB-s Tuner and sell it in the UK? Hows that for a suggestion? I'd loose Sky (in favour for other commerical services and FTA) to get a S4 (or even S3) Tivo in the UK
How about TiVo Pro 2010 XP: Human Eyeball Professional Edition + Live Services
...oh wait, that's what Microsoft would name it
TIVO 3000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111oneoneone
HA
Nice, I hope this gets released with some sort of HD IPTV. I've been dying to get my hands on the TiVo S3 (The premium one) But the cable cards won't work in canada so its useless to me.
TiVo is for kids!
YAHHHHHHH
I hope this includes the DirectTV Tivo please please please! :)
Whatever they call it, the cost of their service plan will keep killing their market share.
You can just pay lifetime, then there is no recurring "service plan" to worry about.
Hey Tivo! Those are ALL lame! Yes, even "Series4." Tivo OMNIBOX?! Seriously? Why not "Tivo Super Awesome Joy Box"? Has the same Taiwanese crapware ring to it.
Seriously? Tivo eVo? Did a 14 year old with Sidekick come up with that?
How about Tivo Four (4 = digital cable + broadcast + online + VOD)?
Yeah, I hope the Direct TV Tivo has all of the features that my Series 3 has. I'd love to get satellite, but I won't budge until they make a Tivo box for it.
I hope one of the questions was:
How much would you be willing to pay to move your "lifetime subcription" again?
a) $199
b) $99
c) $29
d) $0 (You already paid for it twice, we wont make you pay for it a third)
It was clear, even during the Series 1 days that Lifetime meant the lifetime of the box, it was NEVER officially transferable without an additional charge. You will continue to be charged for transferring it to new boxes because that was never included in the original terms.
I guess I have been lucky with them. I have had my lifetime transferred 3 times - I just reminded them it was called a 'lifetime' subscription.
Actually, in the VERY early days of S1, it wasn't completely clear to all that it was tied to the box, that's why there's a one-time grandfathered free transfer to very early S1 lifetimed Tivos.
It's likely the new DirecTivo.
Tivo already stated they were developing a new Tivo for DirecTV and that it will ship sometime this year.
Amen, and the sooner the better. I can't stand my HD20 (although it has gotten better with a few firm/software upgrades).
T2iVo
Ok, ready Tivo? Here goes (other possible names for the series 4):
Tivo - Turbo
Tivo - lution IV
Tivo - xide
Tivo - Blade
Tivo - Onix
Tivo - Monolith
Tivo - Black Djinn
Tivo - Nexus 4
Tivo - Zengine
Tivo - Efusion
Tivo - Shade IV
Tivo - darn, here comes my boss to my cubical. Will resume later...
DishVO?
My Series 3 died recently and I switched to dish since Comcast HD signal was going to compressed hell.
Gotta say I am REALLY missing the Tivo. I've read a lot of praise here and, those people are either nuts or have not used Tivo in a long time. Dish DVR has a lot to learn
Whatever the hell they call it, I hope they just release a new one SOON. The TivoHD has been out since what June 2007? They dropped their price to $199 which given their age, seems to point to a new model soon. I would gladly pay slightly more for the hardware if they damned monthly charge would drop some.
I think TiVo HD2 sounds good. Would also alleviate consumer confusion.
Well, presuming its got tru2way compatibility and built-in SDV compliance so you don't need one of those external "tuner" boxes, I'd think Tivo Series 4 On Demand would be a good name.
Or the Tivo Tru.
I filled out the survey I told them to get Hulu and just call it the "Tivo Box"
The name choices btw were Tivo Series 4, Tivo eCo, Tivo Hybrid, and just plain Tivo Box.
TiVolutionary One. Ah, yes. What a perfect name!
I vote to call it The C.O.L.B.E.R.T. Complex Ondemand & Live Broadcast Entertainment Retaining TiVo.
I hope the new Tivo HD for DirecTV comes soon. After all the horror stories I've heard re. the troubles and crashes with DirecTV's DVR, there's no way I'm going with them ... no matter how much I want to view HD. In over ten years of extensive use with the exact same Tivo unit, I have had near perfect operation .... except for three freeze-ups which were easily and quickly fixed by a reboot.
Dish network and Direct TV support built in ...Microsoft Media Center Extender !!!!!!!!!! would love to be able to sit and get stuff off my Tivo to my Game room ...also instant streem from your computer kinda like you can do with Media Extender with your Xbox 360 and your computer ...take the best of your Xbox 360 media stuff and integrate it with the best MCE and of Tivo and BAM you got your self the best box in the world ...also 1 world HULU !
