Casio's 1,000 fps Exilim EX-FC100 unboxing
Sometimes 30 frames per second is enough to catch your summer moments. Sometimes, though, you need to re-live things in super slow-mo, and for those times Casio's EX-FC100 should have you covered with its 1,000 fps capture mode. We've got one in-house for testing and we'll be posting up full impressions soon (along with some gratuitous footage of random high-speed hijinx), but for now check out some time-lapse photography of how this one escaped from its cardboard confines.

already tried it, however image quality on 1000 fps is bit disapointing.

What resolution does it capture the 1,000 FPS at?
Fairly low if I recall, but still, I can't wait to super slow mo replay a sibling getting hit with a water bomb. Or worse.
These are the resolutions:
210fps - 480x360
420fps - 224x168
1000fps - 224x64
30-210fps - 480x360
I've only ever used the 420/1000 fps rarely, there's no point as the quality is so abysmal. The 30-210 is very cool though :D
its probably like 32x24 pictures.
I'd assume for 95% of the people who buy this camera, the 1000fps mode will become nothing but a gimmick they use about twice.
Prepare to be terrorized by the five percent.
You could hunt ghosts with it! 1000 fps should be enough speed and lack of quality to get good blurry pictures.
I honestly never thought Casio would make it this far but they've marketed themselves quite well.
The high fps angle seems to be working.
Yay competition.
Yeah I have a Cassio and I have to say it's pretty damn nice. From the design to the build quality to the features. Plus it was pretty cheap!
Casio was kind of a pioneer in digital photography, as I recall. My first digital camera was a 3MP Casio, the QV-2300, which had an articulated lens assembly and came with a 340MB CF Microdrive. Not bad for 2001.
I have this camera. 1000fps is indeed at postage stamp resolution. In fact the only worthwhile speed is 210fps, which is at 480x600, not bad for under 300 bones considering the FX1 is 3x that price. But don't buy this camera unless you plan on taking lots of high speed footage. As a regular digicam it can't compete w/ the Powershot and Lumixes of the world.
I have only 206 bones :(
Lol, 206 bones.
I just have 1 huge bone
I was just looking though cameras that support 720p movie recording, this guy is one of them.
The 1000fps resolution is 224x64 which is disappointing, but hey it's a compact cam which other ultra portable you've seen taking more then 30fps at any resolution.
I personally picked EX-Z400 but it doesn't seem to be available in US yet
1000fps porn?
What's cool to shoot at 1k / sec? Is that still too slow for a bullet
I need a good reason to get this
I have that camera and I must say, it's pretty impressive. Sure I never use 1000fps because :
1: It's too damn slow
2: 224X64
3: Even outside the noise is interolable.
But 210fps is perfect. Got plenty of video if you want. Ask questions if you want ;)
By the way, I love it. 30fps at 6M is really nice. But be carefull, there is a lot of noise starting at 800 iso. 1600 iso is really bad.
meh, give me an iPhone anyday.
Because no else can make something desirable? Or because iPhone has amazing HSP abilities?
Any idea what video format it records in? Are they still touting the "drag straight into iTunes" functionality? I guess that would make it H264 MP4?
@ Vince- Its AVI, MJPEG. It will import directly to iPhoto and QT will play it, but neither iMovie nor iTunes will. You'll have to convert before importing to iTunes or iMovie.
Wtf does an iPhone have to do with this article?!
I have had a Exlim FC-100 for some time and its quite superb camera, well i like it. The slow-mo stuff on its quite good here some i did last week - http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrhuggy/sets/72157617751206547/
Holy crapsticks. When I read the title I was expecting some sort of 10lb monster. You can get 1000fps is something that small??
(As you may have guessed, it's been a while since I bought a camera.)
You can get 1000FPS, but only at an almost useless resolution.
Hey do they throw in some pot in those cable packets? :)
mjpeg (motion jpeg)=PoS and why I'll never purchase this camera, although I was highly anticipating it.
Here is some video I shot with mine using the 30>210fps mode

And here is some done at 420

Well now that is incredibly cool. I really want that camera now...

Maybe it's just the viewing angle, but it looks like you've got one hell of a Daly-esque backswing going on there.
great image quality. Looks better than some indie movie footage I've seen and for under 300 bucks who can beat that?
heres examples of all modes in one awesome clip!
