The intersection of PSP 3000 and Hack St. has thus far been a pretty lonely little place, so we're pleased to announce that the ChickHEN project is definitely gaining some momentum. According to one extra special YouTube video, hacksters are now able to run the TIFF exploit and boot into a homebrew enabler environment on a PSP 2003 and a PSP 3000 running 5.03 firmware. The code is seen surviving a reboot, and both the system software and MAC address can be changed. While not ready for prime time yet, this does pave the way for emulators, PSP uCLinux, and all of those other things that keep all you homebrew fans happy at night. Video after the break, if you dare.
Wow - you went so far to be clever in saying first that you used a 1 for an i. So really, there is some sort of thought process in your head when you post you're first? Why doesn't that process entail realizing what a useless factoid being first in a thread would be? None of us will ever care!
Stating first should be an auto-ban at this point.
I'm not really intending to spur on the "First" poster's, but you must realize that the argument regarding Futility can also be applied to almost all utterancces. Right? I mean, who gives a crap in a couple of days what was said on this blog, or in any place at any time, on most instances? Unless of course, you happen to be like Einstein and are relating your discovery of something like the Theory of Relativity. Does it matter that the uselessness of the "First"'s matches that of almost all other conversations? Including this response? Even more broadly, do you recall what that famous Mayan philosopher said? No? Exactly.
In fact, I wonder why we masquerade around pretending that most discourse is fruitful, when in fact it's irrelevant. I suppose I understand that it is disturbing to be confronted by the uselessness of said conversations, so the chastising begings.
While I'm uselessly writing, can I please implore all of you to just ignore the poor fools who need to babble uselessly while counting, because it's almost as disturbing to read the response to the "First" as it is to have encountered the "First" in the first place. :o
No, Duke, I'm not at all making fun of you, honest. I'm being semi serious and semi sarcastic. Just having fun with words is all. No harm intended, seriously.
On topic, I'll have to find out the fun things can be done with a homebrewed PSP.
That was a lot to say to me on the subject. Of course all we say is of little importance, but some comments are obviously more useless than the rest - Example: First posts.
This was released a while ago, why did Engadget get it so late? Also, you guys should probably note that HEN is not going to allow the custom firmware to play .isos if I'm not mistaken.
"Keep in mind though that ISO's and PSX games will not work with the launch of HEN since additional coding would be required in order to allow that to happen. To make this clear: Davee has not blocked ISO/PSX games from working, he has just simply not coded a loader himself and included it within the release of HEN. ISO loaders may perhaps be made by independent developers in the future, but creating an ISO loader is no easy task without the use of M33 modules." -Official F.A.Q.
Homebrew is not always about pirating games. Well, pirating PSP games. I don't think running SNES games on a PSP is harming Nintendo's bottom line a whole heap. Anyway, who cares about Nintendo? They sold out.
Davee and Team Typhoon have already released a working HEN revision to their original. You can read about it here. He's a frequent member of our forum as well.
man i wish about dealextreme back then.... I bought a used batt for $10 and ripped it open to cut a pin so it could become a pandora battery, and that wasn't fun lol
I'm in the market for a PSP; and I'd like a 3000, but the bottom line is I won't buy one without an ISO solution. Do I want to pirate games? No. Do I want to be able to take several games with me on a memory stick, thusly not have to carry UMD discs, AND have faster loading time, AND all the other sweet apps? Oh yes I do. Switching every game out is a fail. Switching every 10 or some games out because a memory card is filled with LEGIT copies games purchased by the user is a win.
Who knows, maybe they might listen to its customers and Sony might unveil some magical firmware update that will allow gamers to copy their UMD games onto the memory card.
On one hand, Sony could easily chip the next generation of UMDs with a serial number, as well as the console. The numbers must match, or the games don't copy. Used retailers sign an agreement to flash the UMDs ONLY to resold games and for no other purpose. That would be a score.
On the other hand, the homebrew community is dillegent enough to destroy such a mechanism in a matter of months, thus leaving the whole platform open for business as usual.
Dynasty warrrior - multi-raid has an option to copy data onto mspd, it's the first game with that as I know of. also SCE has been releasing games through PSN you can download, like patapon2 etc.
Gotta love the HOMEBREW Scene for PSP, nothing keeps those guys down, NOTHING. If Sony puts out a FW they hack it, the new 5.50 seems unable to be hacked as of yet but there is a video out there of someone running code on that model too. If I find it I will post it here.
At least now I know homebrew is finally working on this thing. I should stop doing the official updates then and wait for my firmware version to be supported. I just want to play SNES, NES, GBA games on my PSP already!
Wait, microlinux? This thing doesn't have an MMU either? Yet another handheld device to avoid. ..unless you're going to, like, use it with the software that came with, but really, who does that?
Funny, I dont know either. Everything I use has CFW. Screw the man and them trying to put me down! With their DRM's and copyright laws and yeah. They make enough money of the system itself, man. $30 to throw together a PSP but they charge $200. Power to the people.
What. I'm just saying, software has to be rewritten to run on anything with linear memory, and it's less secure and stuff. Since I like to keep my software choices wide open on any hardware I own, I like to stick to computers with modern memory management units. The Man has been pretty good to me, akshully.
These kinds of things make more people buy PSPs. Some people will pirate games but some others will buy legit games or accessories so it's not all loss. Only if Sony was able to think outside the box just for once.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Hackers never fail to amaze me...
f1rst??
also really cool. emulators are the win.

Cheers.
if they don't then lets wait a few weeks for someone else to
Yeah the Sony Daniel Steel Edition Ebook Reader was out like weeks ago too. Engadet is always late with these things.

Finally. I need a new PSP and was waiting for this. It's not worth it without the emulators! Or all the other cool stuff.
Awesome :D
I've been waiting for this since I bought my PSP 3000 in January.
Does this mean a way to run homebrew on the 2003 without a pandoras battery or am I totally missing the point here?
plenty of homebrew already can run on this, there are 3 versions of HEN now, it's still risky
Inb4 Piracy baww'ing.

Sorry for the double comment, but this thread will fill you in on all the details about Davee's HEN: http://forums.mformature.net/showthread.php?t=2380
Oh so this cant be use to for example install M33 firmware without a pandora kit? Because THATD be great.
no CFW installation with this. just buy a pandora off dealextreme for 5 bucks
pandora doesn't work on the PSP-3000. Thus the reason for this...
man i wish about dealextreme back then....

amen

I see an agreement and a disagreement.

this supports the latest 5.03 official firmware, as far as I know.
my firmware is at 5.50 so i have to wait a while.

Why did I sell my PSP? I need to buy a new one.

Just down upgrade to firmware 5.50.
It gets better and better every day.
SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY right now! Now if only I could get that 4 GB card I'll be able to hold more than 1 game on the psp. Hurry chickHen. Hurry!!!
