it was all just a huge glitch on the nokiausa website. the system was adding all promotional codes when nokia only allows one on orders. but reports from people who have called nokia is that they are going to honor all the orders that went through.

I was a fan of the N97 eons ago. But the spec sheet for this phone is abysmal its so heavily under powered its silly. I got the N95 and I am upgrading to the Palm Pre.
Hmm. Get a Palm Pre, or wait for a decent Android phone. Open source versus (near-)instant gratification.

so tempting... but the 5800 really killed my excitement. the UI simply isnt as exciting as the Pre, Android, and iPhone and dare I even say HTC Touch Flo UI (which is really WinMo)? :(
I know, S60 looks awful. Great hardware, though except for the resistive touchscreen. I have the same problem with the Omnia HD. :-( And the iPhone, Pre and G1/G2/i7500 all have comparatively awful hardware.

I really wanted to buy nokia n97, but now i think i should wait and see what Iphone comes out with (i wish the new revolutionary iphone is NOT iphone 3G + 3.2MP camera).
I love palm pre's speed and the why it works, but don't like the shape.
Nokia... i want to see some users working on ur N97 before i go for it, but unlocked for $524 is really good i guess.
I think Nokia already got insider news about those new iphone's prices. With that price will make it interesting for even more people.

Mine went smoothly, I even added a bluetooth headset to the order. What card did you use??? I used Visa.
i added two to cart using the front page. first it will add both the handset and the headsetx2 and discount applies to both. but it won't let me checkout. reducing it to one combo does it. Later it won't add the headset, but with two handsets in the cart it won't check out either.
I got one instead. I tried AMEX, VISA and MC. None worked. I think they restricted it?

I don't think so, if it was the NAM version, it would have been stated kinda like this "Nokia N97 NAM" I guess... Not sure though...
I and my friends tried to order it with several cards (because it was not letting my roommates buy one after me), both to my home address and to friend's addresses, there's always a credit card error.
One advice, don't try to place more than one order to your address. Looks like Nokia is tracking the Address and Card numbers from all the attempts and will not let you use that card anymore.
I just ordered one with the headset. It went perfectly smooth with my mastercard.

Just ordered one from a friend's card using his address.....coz my roommate accidentally bought with the first coupon code and got $174 discount, then he tried to buy another one, dint go through. So we got another friend's card details, logged into my work machine and could order finally. So total 3 phones ordered today!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)
Nokia should really just EFF it. What the hell makes this thing WITH A GIFT HEADSET like $350 cheaper in the USSA than it is in Germany, without the headset? >.
This is NAM...check the Operating Frequency its 850MHZ but it has triband 3G so will work in Europe.

The N95 NAM has very few firmware updates than the Euro ones.
This is the only reason that is stopping me from placing an order!
They have been pretty good with the Nokia 5800 NAM updates right, from what I have heard? So I think theyr improving and it should be all right with the firmware updates..
Nokia's recommended retail price for N97 with taxes is 999€ for Finland (USD 1.340,00).

Well, coming from someone who had an n95-1, when you pop in your simcard, it'll populate the important information for you.
I ended up pulling the trigger on it to replace my n95-1. I know it doesn't have as good specs as the Omnia HD, but there's no way the Omnia HD will ever be below 500$ in the next 2 years. Plus, the Omnia HD doesn't have a keyboard, which i was reallly looking forward to.
This will be my new device for the next 2-3yrs.

Anyone looking to buy and unlocked phone should buy one from nokia NOW! The price cuts are across the board. You probably wouldn't get better prices until around christmas.

The N96 shows a discount in the shopping cart, but the N97 doesn't. Was it just a bug?

$525 or $454 with no contract is really really cheap for this phone. when it eventually comes here it will probably be 600€ on its own or around 300€ with the most basic contract :(
but i still want it, if the Omnia HD didn't exist, i'd have no doubts about which phone to buy next

Well, at least they're honouring the erroneous promotional discount for those that already ordered. As for suing them, it wouldn't stand up in court, due to it being a technical oversight or software error. I can't think of any court in the world that would allow a lawsuit to go through under those circumstances.

yeah, 5 iphones with 5 different two-year contracts... good game though! friggin idiot- this is also an unlocked phone that isn't subsidized like the iphone. compare it to the price of an unlocked iphone, which will be considerably more. it may be cheaper than the N97, but it will definitely cost close to the same.
What carrier will everyone be using with this unlocked phone? I've never used a unlocked phone? Does it work as well once your card is put in?
