Dell Mini 10 TV tuner option coming this summer, Mini 10v goes hands-on
While Dell originally mentioned a TV tuner option back when it launched the Mini 10 in January, it's still working on bringing the feature to market. The latest news is that the configuration will tack roughly $50 onto the price, includes an external antenna (which is only required in low-signal situations), and should be available "this summer." The couple of channels we saw in action seemed plenty good on the quality front, but nothing groundbreaking. Meanwhile, we also got a look at the new Mini 10v, which swaps HDMI for VGA, lacks the flush "glass" styling of the Mini 10 display, and bounces over to the Atom N270 processor. The version we were looking at included a 6-cell battery (a $30 add-on), which added a considerable amount of lift at the back -- it might be ergonomic, but it sure isn't pretty. Unfortunately the TV option won't be available for the 10v, so if you were holding out... maybe you should be spending more time with your family.

YES!!!
ME WANT!!!
Dude, I'm getting a Dell!
The external antenna looks like the antenna provide by Avermedia for the AverTV DVB-T Volar X :

If the tuner is provided by Avermedia for Dell, it's a good news because this tuner is great
Jeff
if anything it should be built in, but I actually wouldn't mind a 90s boombox style collapsible antenna in the back if it helped for reception
This is a standard Avermedia external antenna. The actual tuner is more likely an HC series, such as an HC82 (Hybrid Nanoexpress) as these fit into expresscard slots and have been an option of Dell systems for some time now.
I wish Dell would combine the Mini 10 with N and Series Atom's into one line so you could choose any feature. I like features from both models, but can only get them on either one.
See here what options Dell keeps separate for each line: http://portablemonkey.com/article/more-dell-mini-10v-specs-emerge/
Dell MiniV will launch in north america in 3 days. Talked to dell rep and have a screenshot of the the conversation.
I'm glad it's not a glossy screen. Does anyone know if the 10v is scheduled to have an HD screen option ever?
Are you sure the screen is not glossy? From the article I only gather that the glass is not flush all the way through the bezel, but I don't think the screen surface itself is matte.
Yeah, you are probably right.
ION ION ION!
Actually, Atom sucks because it costs too much and can't handle YouTube. I'll just stick to what I have now.
On the off chance that someone from Dell, or someone that knows someone from Dell reads this site, I have a request. I have a Dell X200 (ancient thing) but there was an accessory that made a whole lot of sense. It is (since I have one) an external battery charger. It is about the size of the small battery and it uses the standard charge brick to run it. You get the idea. If you have two batteries, you can run one down that is in the Dell, swap it with the one on the charger, and put the one that is run down on the charger, to be ready for the next swap. Looks like this http://www.impactcomputers.com/4m257.html So, who would rather this, than a big honkin' multi-cell battery that sticks out the bottom or the back.
BTW Sven: I do read this site and shared you idea for an external battery charger with our development team. If you've got more, we definitely welcome more Mini and netbook feedback... we're getting input via IdeaStorm and at @Dell_Mini on Twitter. More details here: http://bit.ly/jIxBd.
does it come the a DTV converter box coupon (if so my grandma is getting this asap)
If I remember correctly, when the Dell mini 10 was announced Dell stated that they'd release a 6 cell battery, a tv-tuner AND an integrated 3G modem. I've been waiting for the 3G modem option for a while now. I hope they'll announce it soon.
I won't by one until they launche 3G WWAN... I want to have an Dell mini 10... Righ now i waited over months to get the promised one i like. Sadly they launch the new features step by step... but why? If they don't hurry i get another one form another company! I can't wait anymore. Come On DELL... lets sell the promised ones in germany!
I can't see the excitement. Dell missed the boat again. I own a Mini 9 and upgraded the memory to 2gb (max) and swapped out the 8 gig STEC SSD for a 16 gig STEC SSD. It runs great for a cramped keyboard device. I thought about moving up to a Mini 10/12 until I found out about the crap processor and ONLY 1gig of soldered in memory and NO SSD ! Seems that Dell broke their own standard of consistency in a family. Its like the Mini series had 1 dad (Dell) and 2 different mothers. Now comes the 10v...better processor, memory that can be upgraded from 512 to 1gig...only....vga only.....oh wait...a TV tuner...oh can't have it....but wait the price is $100 less and you can put an SSD in it. Oh yawn...meh.....come on Dell take a 9 and make the memory upgradeable to 4 gig, put an 11 or 12 inch screen on it, SSD or HD, BT, Wifi and 3 USB ports and you would blow away the competition.
There's more detail on the Mini 10v and a video overview here on my Direct2Dell blog post about it: http://bit.ly/z9KIx.
Thanks,

Is dell going to release a Tuner that can be used on other laptops? or is this just Dell exclusives?
let's see if I can still read: Dell is telling me either have a multimedia experience (1gb of MAX RAM) or take a 'entry' version (10v) that can do up to 2gb ram, but only does VGA. Is it me or is Dell nuts!!!
