Samsung Jack comes to AT&T on May 19, $99.99 on contract
The BlackJack II's been looking a little long in the tooth for a while now, and it's been made pretty clear that the Epix isn't the direct replacement -- so what is? Behold the i637 Jack (not to be confused with the... uh, Jack), which has just been made official with a 3.2 megapixel camera and video recording, AGPS, WiFi, microSD expansion, 256MB of RAM, triband HSDPA / quadband EDGE, and the all-too-typical QVGA display. Like its forebears, the Jack naturally features a full QWERTY keyboard; it'll launch with Windows Mobile 6.1 but will be fully upgradeable to 6.5. Look for it in stores on May 19 for $99.99 on a new two-year contract after rebate. AT&T's already got a unit (not to say that should come as any surprise) and they're showing it off on video -- check it out after the break.

Another phone for the carecup.
This looks just like the Blackberry 8900, but with a TERRIBLE OS and no trackball. Fail
Blackberry not having exchange support = FAIL.
Actually, this looks way more like e71.
This is the non-touch screen version of WinMo 6.1 and future 6.5.
Not a bad phone in it's earlier incarnations and wildly popular among corporate IT departments that don't do Blackberries.
I'll second that. Everything you need and nothing you don't.
As it smoothly transitions into looking like a Blackberry. Looks like a decent Windows Mobile phone though.
that keyboard looks better than the blackjack II
thank goodness too. My blackjack 2 keyboard is STILL stiff after 1.5 years of use. I love the phone, but it freezes up more than i care for, gets sluggish, has no have the battery removed a lot (this is mostly related to my frustration with 5:30AM alarms).
I've been looking for a replacement, and if this phone as halfway decent, ill give it a shot.
but what about the web-browser?
i guess it's the same windowsmobile 6.1 style
Wasn't it supposed to be called Jack Frost?
I don't like the look of it! How can u trust a company that also makes washing machines? :D Nokia E71 ftw!
What?
While I agree that e71 is indeed, FTW. That logic of yours is pure fail. I own Toshiba: washing machines (2), TVs (2), and laptop. None of them ever fail me.
I have a Hyundai and a Hyundai flat panel.
My LG washer AND dryer kick ass. The phone I have isn't too shabby either.
I think I'll be suing them for trademark infringement...
The form factor, O/S and price have worked very well for Samsung and the BlackJack line. I've had BJ1 and BJ2. But... I moved to a Blackberry and have never looked back.
If Samsung threw a high res screen and fast CPU into the mix... I'd buy the Jack.
absolutely. i love my BJ2, and adding wifi would make it amazing, but how could they get rid of the scroll wheel. It's part of what makes a blackjack a blackjack. removing it really makes it seem more like the jack is a new line.
WM 6.5 for Standard verions of Windows Mobile? Is this a first.
Is the scroll mechanism completely gone??? That would be awefull, unless you have some Diamond Zoombar thing.
It's kinda sad though, that a gadget 18 months old is considered 'long in the tooth'.
And the reason you'd get this instead of the nokia e71 is....
It's already out in some AT&T stores... It has a 528MHz processor as well which isn't bad. They named it the Jack instead of BlackJack 3.
256MB of RAM... wow really? what applications would this thing be running to require that much memory? It doesn't seem like this thing is meant to be much of an entertainment or multimedia phone
Motorola Q? Where is the innovation. It seems like it stopped after the touchphone.
Finally, a replacement for my BJ2 (which I absolutely love). The number one reason I can think of getting this as an upgrade would be the wi-fi... and I guess number 2 would be the increased processing power... and I suppose number three would be the extra RAM... and I might as well throw in number 4 being the increased SD card capacity! I'm just wondering how much out of pocket this thing will cost *before* I get it at that $99 rebate price.
um, same SD card capacity i believe. i have an 8GB microSDHC card in my BJII. and yes i love it too. i agree though, increased processing power and ram and wifi are nice.
nice. I loved the BJ1 & BJ2, but got an EPIX and HATE HATE HATE it. touch screen does more harm than good. no proximity sensor like the iphone so you're face dialing and hanging up on people. winmo pro is just not suited for a cellphone. why does an onscreen keyboard pop up when i have a real keyboard? and two more words: SLOG DUMP. EPIX? more like epic fail
I love BJs too. I'm excited about the BJ3.
everyone loves BJs, but isn't this a phone thread?
Nokia e71x is a better choice for $99, more features and looks great.
What more features does the e71x have over the BJ3?
I don't exactly know what features will at&t cut for the e71x (I'm using e71, and I'm not in the US), but I can tell you that I prefer Nokia's OS over WinMo. Plus, Nokia is launching its app store very soon (Ovi store), hopefully it could be on par with apple.
I currently have an Iphone 3G, an E71x, a 5800 xm, and an HTC Tytn II. THe big thing that the two nokias lack are triband HSDPA. It's especially useful in Korea and Japan if I go trhough there.
The E-71x is actually $149.99, you only get the $50 credit (not rebate) if you sign up for the overpriced $30/month data plan. And after tax and upgrade fees, the E-71x comes out to $195 ($27 tax from the initial $300 cost and $18 upgrade fee).
Does it pick up Jack FM?
Does that mean the BlackJack 2 is gonna be upgradeable to WinMo 6.5 too? When I got my iPhone I gave my old BJ2 to my gf and I'd love to upgrade hers to 6.5 to see what's its like. She's currently using 6.1, which while not being great is better than what it shipped with.
that'd be awesome. i'd like to keep my bj2 going for another year
The blackjack for racists ;D
it looks good.. but its really damn annoying that samsung have no originality what so ever... this phones reeks of E71 a lot!
You are better off with the E71-2 (dont get the dumbed down att E71x you will be disappointed)
E71-2 = better than this
Looks like the Motorola Q9h Grey, just a slimmer version and with WiFi

A couple of the major online cell companies are doing the E71x for $.99.........
That keyboard looks EXACTLY like the keyboard on the Moto Q9h Global from AT&T...wierd
My local Wal-Mart has the Jack: for $68.00 w/2yr(new or upgrade) and $330.00 "No Contract" and the E71x for $58.00 w/2yr and $280.00 "No Contract" They got them in this last Tuesday.
For walmart, do you have to get the data plan for the discounted price?
