VPlay brings video mixing to Surface, seriously improves Microsoft's office parties

For most people, there is only one name that matters in the world of Microsoft Surface / "rave" integration. And that name? Al Roker. But that hasn't stopped the company from continuing to develop new and innovative ways to show off its super-sized touchscreen device in the milieu of clubland. VPlay, for instance, is a live video mixing tool that allows one to display video clips and live images, manipulate effects, and concoct some pretty complex signal paths with your bare hands. Interested in giving this one a spin? No word yet on a commercial release, but do make sure you peep the video after the break.

Cool
Agreed. Makes me think of Labview though, which isn't really a good thing when I'm already sick of it.
Such a cool idea but its too fiddly, even the developer was having problems selecting and moving objects
jazz mutant lemur > than this
cool promise but honestly it looks like a dumbed down vjo
cool promise...
make it a sepeate hardware controller...
and i would LOVE to use this in resolume...
lol@ Microsoft's Office parties
I have images of Access and Publisher standing awkwardly by the punch bowl while Word and PowerPoint do keg stands.
Oh, and want.
Yeah...Imagine that! MS office people developing games for game console they created. Too funny!
Wow that's impressive :) Looks extremely easy to use!
Is it me, or has Steve Ballmer and Microsoft started to take over the world?
Their devices are getting hot!
That would be just you... Microsoft has been losing market share as of late. They are still the dominant power, but it is slipping.
All the stuff for the Surface looks cool and all, but it just seems completely pointless to me. Why develop these fantastic applications for a devices that has a miniscule install base? Why not devote all that "wasted" time to making those awesome apps for other, more meaningful platforms so people will actually be able to use them. It seems as if Microsoft is saying, "Hey, look what we can do!". Well my response to that is, "Hey, why don't you actually do it?".
Sorry, but Al Roker doesn't deserve all this flair... :)
Because something like this is easily extendable to multitouch tablet PCs and multitouch desktops.
Sure it is! The only downside is that you won't have as much screen realistate, but it would still work just fine.
You missed the whole point, though. What I was talking about is that Microsoft is not making many products that are as user friendly and have this level of graphical flair. They are certainly getting better from the days of the utilitarian Windows 98, but it seems like their truly spectacular software products are being reserved for the super-high-end product lines like the Surface. They really need to be at least attempting to push these things out to the public, which will really change their image.
seriously engadget???
not even a mention of bing yet?
Bing was mentioned on Download Squad.
thats cool, its just i was surprised i havent read about it on engadget yet, i thought it would be a big story.
i just thought it was kinda sad that the newspapers in australia beat engadget to what i thought would be a big story :P
What is bing?
Awesome works. One day definitely Microsoft take over the world on touch screen.
This thing really apes the Reactable's interface but with video instead of music elements. It does look cool though, especially the stuff towards the end.
I want those effects on my windows movie maker!!!!!
