We know, it's
just another angle -- and one that we're not quite sure the origin of -- but considering just how many years we've
been waiting for the Wii to be anything other than glossy white, we'll take every opportunity we can to relish this moment. Hop on past the break for a more official look at the jet black
controllers. Hey Nintendo, you
do realize that North Americans love new hues too, right?
Cool, just checking.
[Thanks, Craig]

I think nintendo is confusing the classic controller pro with the duelshock.
mapi @ Jun 5th 2009 10:49AM
What are you talking about? It's just a snes controller with two analog sticks...
Oh, wait, I'm describing the dualshock.
strider_mt2k @ Jun 5th 2009 10:57AM
JERKS!
I'll say it again!
JERKS!
Joseph @ Jun 5th 2009 1:19PM
see the black wiimote in the bokeh distortion field?
gonintendo @ Jun 5th 2009 1:35PM
When sony developed the dualshock, they stole the snes controller and added two analog sticks, handles, and extra shoulder buttons.
When nintendo made the classic controller pro, they took the snes controller and added two analog sticks, handles, and extra shoulder buttons.
Extinction @ Jun 5th 2009 4:06PM
No, when Nintendo made this classic pro, they just flat out copied dualshock.
Sony invented the ergonomic wings. They get credit for the innovation.
Sony invented the second row of shoulder buttons, they get credit for that.
Garst @ Jun 6th 2009 4:04AM
No, Nintendo did not flat out copy the DualShock. As far as I can tell the Classic Controller Pro does not contain rumble, a KEY FEATURE of the DualShock. Without rumble, you just have Dual, which is another thing altogether. I can assure you Nintendo didn't copy anything from Dual.
Jive Turkey @ Jun 7th 2009 10:39PM
Don't be such a noob. It's a classic controller (SNES design) with handles. Yes, adding the handles makes it look like the dualshock controller, but come on they're handles! There's only so many ways to design them, and they all look the same. And if you were talking about the thumbsticks (analog sticks) like those other fools, Sony blatantly ripped that idea off the N64 controller (although they did improve it). Even the rumble feature where the name "dualshock" comes from was ripped of the N64.
Extinction @ Aug 2nd 2009 4:04PM
"Sony blatantly ripped that idea off the N64 controller"
No, they didn't.
1) Analog thumbsticks existed on the Vectrex, which is 10 years older than the N64
2) PS1 had an analog controller, which uses the exact same potentiometer based analog stick technology dual shock does, AND a thumbstick, which not only came out before the N64, but was announced BEFORE the N64 was. I own one.
Vidikron @ Jun 5th 2009 10:32AM
Why can't they release stuff like this from the start? White is a simply atrocious color for home electronics. It matches mothing else in my entertainment center.
Andrew Timson @ Jun 5th 2009 10:38AM
Black also makes it look like "just another piece of electronics". This way, the Wii stands out, which is a good thing from Nintendo's perspective.
Platinum_Skeet @ Jun 5th 2009 10:39AM
Hmm now millions will go out of there way to get Wii's to match their entertainment center....:P
Vidikron @ Jun 5th 2009 10:45AM
@Skeet
That almost certainly why they do it. Wii sales had sagged in Japan recently so they release a new color. They do the same thing with the DS all the time. I'm sure it makes perfect business sense and Nintendo's bank account confirms they know how to rake in the cash, but for someone like me that just wanted black from the start and has no intention of giving Nintendo more cash for a platform that has been fairly disappointing (for me) already, this just adds to the disappointment.
nxp3 @ Jun 5th 2009 11:07AM
vidikron: let me introduce you to krylon....spray paint that sucker. I've done it to computers and cdrom drives many times to match.
Vidikron @ Jun 5th 2009 11:16AM
Heh.. I suppose I should consider that. The Wii does come apart fairly easily. I might just make that a weekend project sometime soon.
TareX @ Jun 5th 2009 10:35AM
Meh.
1) Mouse and keyboard
2) Natal
3) Wiimote
4) Any other controller
Platinum_Skeet @ Jun 5th 2009 10:41AM
How can you Natal on the list when you've never used it?
It'll blow ass when you break your arm or leg and can't play your favorite fighting game...
ben @ Jun 5th 2009 10:41AM
Terrible list... the wiimote is, like natal is going to be, a massive gimmick that doesn't actually add much to gameplay. Do you know any friends that play smash bros with the wiimote?
Also, you can't really compare a mouse and keyboard to a controller. They're entirely different beasts. The mouse and keyboard are perferrable for FPS and RTS, and games like MMOS where there are dozens of spells, while the controller excels at pretty much everything else.
thebomberman @ Jun 5th 2009 10:42AM
Jesus, fanboy much?
sacapuntas @ Jun 5th 2009 10:49AM
@ ben
Heck, all my friends play Super Smash Bros. on the N64. And guess what? It is more fun!
Dafrety @ Jun 5th 2009 10:49AM
That list is pretty much the exact opposite for racing games.
mr nimblewick @ Jun 5th 2009 10:50AM
I play SSBB with the wiimote. I like the d-pad.
reinekec @ Jun 5th 2009 10:44AM
Looks like Final Fantasy XIV on that TV in the background?
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jun 5th 2009 10:47AM
monster hunter
Sefirato @ Jun 5th 2009 12:37PM
Yes, that's Final Fantasy IV Online on the TV screen. I never knew that it's also coming out for the Wii (thought it was just PS3), or maybe it's just a gimmick?
Either way, I have played FFXI Online, there's a 100% chance that I will NEVER play the newer incarnation.

I love how you put the flame in polite form.
Lol @ Ironies.
On topic: And I just bought a new Wii too...
mikethevee @ Jun 5th 2009 10:48AM
It might be tempting.. if it had any hardware upgrade like graphics and processor upgrade.. otherwise i'll live with the white...
mocax @ Jun 5th 2009 10:52AM
just realized "kuro wii" is a word play on japanese word "kuroi"..... :P
vdex34 @ Jun 5th 2009 10:57AM
yeah, seems alot of products from japan keep their description "kuro" when they hit the states, just google kuro and you'll see what i mean
scott @ Jun 5th 2009 2:45PM
if Nintendo does things the way they do things, then we'll probably have an aoWii, akaWii, kiiroWii, and the always-popular chairoWii!
Xin @ Jun 5th 2009 3:26PM
Isn't kuro the noun form of kuroi? (adj btw)
So, not exactly a play on words exactly...
boutch55555 @ Jun 5th 2009 10:56AM
Why is that tv standing directly on the floor ?
d?niel @ Jun 5th 2009 11:17AM
maybe it's that way in japan.. if they don't have chairs, the tv would be at the right height this way.
or because it just gives the picture a suuuper dynamic perspective this way.
bidaum @ Jun 5th 2009 11:55AM
Why is it an HD?
Neseoro @ Jun 5th 2009 1:41PM
Maybe it is not the floor and just a GIANT table....?
darok3k @ Jun 5th 2009 11:00AM
about time.. black is wayy better than white.
Mr. 14 @ Jun 5th 2009 2:47PM
That's what she...ahh, forget it.
Mike @ Jun 5th 2009 11:16AM
funny how sony and microsoft are moving towards motion control, and wii goes back to gamepad controller
Jon Acheson @ Jun 5th 2009 11:35AM
It's still lame that the gamepad has to be wired into a wiimote.
Just make a wireless gamepad controller, already!
Navarr @ Jun 5th 2009 11:46AM
You guys do know that 'kuro' is the Japanese Noun for the Color Black, right?
Tann @ Jun 5th 2009 12:06PM
Damn, this looks sexy in black
Alex @ Jun 5th 2009 12:11PM
In the first picture... 8.1?
8.1?
8.1 Surround sound?!
Dear God. The Wii has gotten a squillion times better.
TrackDrew @ Jun 5th 2009 5:55PM
i think it might be release date? august 1?
wud_e @ Jun 5th 2009 12:20PM
Looks Cool.
Walter @ Jun 5th 2009 12:35PM
Americans also like their new electronic devices to display in real HD (720p and up), because you know... it is 2009, after all.
Ozzman_79 @ Jun 5th 2009 12:35PM
If people want this to come to America , all you have to do it stop buying over half a million of the white ones a month.....you know, like Japan did? Look what they got!
